Nice review and video. One thing I would give much consideration to is a "one tooth' smaller counter sprocket (or 2 tooth larger rear sprocket). In THIS video there was no examples of even needing top gears. Therefore, if most of your serious riding is in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, then the time you actually DO NEED 5th or 6th, the benefits of lower gearing over-all would out weight over-all top speed loses. It would ALSO help with the hardest terrain over-heating and your using mostly 1st gear WITH a lot of clutch action. Something to consider.

"Never overheated a carbureted engine"? I had to dig mud out of the fins of my 1980 RM250 during a couple harescrambles, back in the day. After cleaning out the mud, I could keep racing, but the newer water cooled bikes that overheated were done for the day. Win for the old air cooled bikes! lol

Great bike review , well done. I have the same bike over here on the Island ( Victoria BC ) . As we have the tightest gnarly terrain in the country on this big rock I find that unless you are stuck for a extended period of time on some crazy uphill you do not need a fan for cooling. I find that this bike does just fine for cooling in its factory state. Your dead on with the perfect TPI jetting on the 250. My buddy does have the 300 2020 and it does not run clean . Strange that a huge company like KTM produces new bikes that have this problem.

Had the same problem as your friend, my 2020 TE300i ran terrible and was frustratingly inconsistent. Sometimes it'd blubber when trying to roll on the throttle like the fuel air ratio was completely lost. Several shops looked at the issue but couldn't ever find or fix it The dealership even did a full rebuild (I had to pay for it) and if anything it ran worse afterwards. It never ran as good as my friends 19 TE300i with hundreds of hours on the clock. I sold my 2020 300i for a 2020 150i and that bike runs flawless, pulls clean, idles better and sounds crisper. I'm hearing more and more about other tpi bikes that experience hard-to-diagnose air/fuel ratio issues but majority run flawlessly like the 150i I'm on now.

@badgumby95443 жыл бұрын
I just can't justify paying 12K for a brand new bike. Then you have to put aftermarket things(fan, guards, etc.) on it and have the suspension worked on. And many people having "issues" with them. I bought a used one that somebody else had to spend the money on to make it the way it should come from the factory, for that kind of money.
@jamesg77454 жыл бұрын
Your bike's idle sounds a bit low, like my 2020 300 XCW TPI. I have a minor burble on the very low rpm opening of the throttle, that I would like to find a way to get rid of it. How far out do you have your air screw turned out? Mine is out 7 turns, ie max before the screw falls out. I have been considering getting the Slaven's idle screw mod, but they tell me it might not get rid of the burble, so still researching. I'm at 57 hours and have the latest 101 map, hoping for an update that might fix the burble?
@PNWEnduro4 жыл бұрын
Most of the tpi's idle low. I'm fine with it as the bike is not stalling. I have not touched the air screw, it's best to get the idle screw (or make one for a fraction of the price) if you feel like you need to change the idle but I'm not sure it would help with your issue either.

Great video, really appreciate your time and input. I am waiting for delivery of a 21 250xcw and this will be my first tpi. A few years ago I rode a buddy's 18 250xcw and fell in love with the power delivery. I am hoping to tune the new one to match that one, or close to it. I currently ride a 14 300xcw and ride similar trails to you. Do you have any experience the EFI tuners like EJK Dobeck (also sold by JD Jetting under their name) or with RK heads? I went the xcw route because I love the Explorer Fork but will likely need to address low gearing of 1st and 2nd. I milled the head and did carburetor mods on my 300 and was able to drop 3 teeth on the rear and get the gearing to my liking. I hear the tpi's don't like to be messed with so I'm looking for any tips or ideas. Thanks again

Second through sixth gear is exactly the same transmission ratio on both the XC and XC-W. Don’t believe me, check KTMs specs on their web site. The XC now comes with a 51 tooth sprocket vs the XC so first gear almost as low as the XC-W, and 2-6 are actually lower.

Great summary of the 2020's. I've got a 2020 300 xc-w with about 150 hours and agree with your assessment. With respect to your buddy's 300 xc "jetting" issue; I had something extremely similar happen. Have him check out the Crankcase Pressure Sensor and the Ambient Air Pressure Sensor. I had no check engine light and after a bit of banging my head against the wall, figured out it was one of those sensors. I ended up replacing both sensors since they're the same and relatively cheap (~$30/ea). Not sure which one was the culprit, but worth the $60 to get it back to normal. This occurred on my bike around the 80 hour mark. PS - Please call the Peace Arch and let them know I'm cool to come up and ride. I'm sure they'll make an exception :)
@PNWEnduro4 жыл бұрын
I think he's tried switching the sensors as they are both the same part number. KTM has a list of stuff for the dealer to try but it takes them forever to do anything (the dealer not KTM). The next step is checking the fuel pressure and volume but the dealer doesn't even own the tool to do it. I'll check with the border lol, sucks for us too paying a lot more for parts/tires right now.
