2020 Moomba Max might be the best bang for the buck for wake surfing

The Moomba Max is engineered to be a wake surf boat that's priced well without scrapping a lot of the additions on boats twice the cost. We went to Galey's Marine to check out the new Moomba Max. The boat is huge, it might be the tallest boat out there. I did a walk through the boat and talked about what I liked and didn't like. You could not be more accurate. The Max is by far the best bang for the buck in the new towboat market.

We own the Moomba Max and love it. It truly is bang for your buck. Yes you have to add more weight if you want a lot of push..but welcome to wake-surfing... majority of people and kids can “surf” stock ballast. If you are looking to really get serious, throw the rope, do tricks, and get some big boys surfing u will need more weight to help get more push and a longer wave. Wakemakers makes the best plug and play system for the Max. . My husband was able to install it himself. Even purchasing more ballast is nothing in cost compared to high end boats. As note even with the added ballast we still have a TON of storage. We take out some pretty big crews and this boat fits everyone so comfortably. Everything on this review was spot on with the pros and cons. We also wish our seats were on hinges lol. A few cons which aren’t even a big deal..when the boat isn’t loaded down it sits so high on the water getting on the platform is harder. Not a big deal for most but makes it hard for my in-laws to enjoy getting in and out easy. Interior lighting could be better. And we would love for someone to come out with an extended Bimini kit..we live in AZ..someone please give us more shade lol. Super happy with our Moomba, don’t regret it at all :)

Great review! Thanks for this video! Looking at upgrading our 08 Supra Launch SSV and the Max is the front runner based on $ and dealer proximity! Plus I am very satisfied with skiers choice but new Supra's are too much $$$

New screen next year and new grab handles and I don’t know why you would spend more elsewhere. All I’ve read are great things about this boat besides the ridiculous amount of weight it takes to get a clean powerful wave.

i got a 1989 Supra ts6m comp ski boat with 800lb+ of ballast bags and a wake creator and cavitation up 1/2". Been wakesurfing behind it for years.I got about $7000 in the entire boat with gear.

I'd go ZS over Max all day, there's something about the Max I'm not digging. You also need to get the Wake Makers upgraded bags and lead to make it surf well, stock ballast isn't enough. I've seen a ton of Max's on the water lately, 100% of the ones I've personally seen have had crap surf waves . I've spent a lot of time on the Moomba/Supra FB group reading about them, with some dialing in it looks like it can be really good but it's not an easy task. I'm on the Centurion/Supreme FB group too, every post, pic, and video I've seen shows how great the wave is. Check out Hunter Clement's Instagram, he has a ZS with a sick wave. I've been in the ZS at the boat show and dealer, it's high on the list of my next boat. The Max is significantly cheaper though, you can find used Max for 60K, while ZS is in the 80s for 2019. You really want a 2020 ZS as the touch screen was updated from 2019 with a larger one.

That’s what I was thinking! Thanks for the response. I believe the zs is a great boat with symmetrical and huge waves and wakes out of the box. Like you said moomba requires a lot of extra ballast to get a consistent and great surf wave unlike the zs.

My brother had a 2019, had to put 900 pounds of lead and you still surfed right off the back of the boat it sucked. He traded it in for 2020 Master Craft X Star.

Bang for buck, yes. Corners cut to make it that price point(?)yes. Throw a lot of weight in it and it will surf pretty good...but don’t park it next to a G boat and start comparing and contrasting...it quickly becomes apparent why it’s so much cheaper. I’ll stick with my g23:)

if you spend 80k on a new wakesurf boat why should you have to add extra bags and ballast...i feel like if i buy a new wakesurf boat i shouldnt have to add anything. I would hate to loose all that storage. Also where do you put your cooler?

I think to save your a$$. If they put things in the boat that are dangerous, they get sued. If you did it, it's on you.

@@dougcarter6260 the boat doesn't need any additional bags, it has 3200 of sub floor ballast and the boat weighs 4500lbs... plenty of weight to make a clean wave/wake

@@mikemalone4541 I read in a few forums that you have to load the boats down hard to get an optimum wave. I run and additional 2000 lbs in the rear, 400 in the locker and 1000 on the nose on a 2008 Malibu VLX, which is a lot easier to push into the water than this boat. That's on top of built in ballasts. Bigger boats need more weight. It's a displacement issue, not a total weight issue.

@@BackcountryMalitia 1/2 is actually close to correct. Max is showing 81-88k new, my wt-2dc was 48k. It gets a great showing at the boat ramp, people wanna know all about it and when they hear the price their eyes get wide and want to know how they can get one.

Sorry but you dog your competition to much. For one the axis boat come with fat sacks and the tech from Malibu boats. So you tried hard to make it sound nice but it falls way short of the Axis.

I understand that you’re trying to sell a product and I personally think moomba is a good boat on the same level of axis but moomba needs to address the fact that right off the lot you need to add a bunch of fat sacks or lead to even surf.
