••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Let's start with the basics:
Type: full-size car
Year: 2020
Make: Nissan
Model: Maxima
Trim: SV
Exterior Paint: Super Black
Interior: Charcoal Leather
Wheels:
MSRP: $38,640
More on the trim levels:
The Maxima comes in 6trim levels:
1. S Xtronic CVT at $34,250;
2. SV Xtronic CVT at $36,450;
3. SL Xtronic CVT at $38,640;
4. SR Xtronic CVT at $41,450;
5. Platinum CVT at $41,640; and
6. Platinum Reserve at $42,780.
A bit of history about the Maxima:
The Maxima has been made since 1980. This is the 8th generation of the Maxima and this version has been made since 2015.
Under the hood:
Drivetrain: Front Wheel Drive
Engine: 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine
Transmission: Continuously variable valve timing control system (CVTCS)
Horsepower: 300 hp @ 6,400 rpm
0 to 60: Approximately 5.7 with top speed of 133 mph for the Platinum Trim. Stats not readily available for the SV trim reviewed here.
Fuel Type: Gas Regular Unleaded
MPG City: 20 mpg
MPG Highway: 30 mpg
Combined MPG: 24 mpg
Fuel Cap Location:
Fuel Tank Capacity: 18 gallons
Handling:
Turning at slow speeds: Fantastic. Parking is a breeze.
Turning at high speeds: Excellent, I felt super comfortable going around turns at high speeds. The Maxima handles extremely well.
Acceleration:
From a stop: It's pretty fun. You won't be the fastest car on the road, but the Maxima's engine is loud enough to make you feel like you might be.
While moving: Great. There's about a 1 second delay from the time you push the accelerator to when the car reacts, but it's not bad. And I was able to pass cars on the road easily, so I was happy.
Cabin Noise:
Great. At low and high speeds I barely heard what was going on outside and I never had to increase the volume on the radio to hear what was bein said. Impressive for a car under $40k

I've had this car new from 2016. I now have 80,000 trouble-free miles. Runs like the day I took it home. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, so I make sure it's maintained by the book (or better); that's the key to long life with these cars. BTW-nice review, spot-on!

@@argihispanicamerican7857 I'm at 93,000 miles now-not worried, but if it needs one, I'll do it, still love the car. I think it's important to ramp up to speed in a controlled manner with this type of transmission (to eliminate/reduce the possibility of belt slippage).

compared to the alitima obv this is much faster. feels heavier, doors are heavy, corners better doesnt feel floaty and when the 300hp kicks in its wild. Hit 105 inches per secon ;) really quickly

Nice review! I rented an Altima back in 2007 and it had a stop/start button. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Now, it's ubiquitous, as well as many other amenities. I own old, classic, BMWs, so, when I don't want to put miles on them, I rent. The cool features, often, make me want to buy new - then, I think, "Why"? Heck, I can just rent a car, no mileage restrictions, no insurance payments and no car payment other than the rental cost. And, I only need it it for a short time before I go back to my classics (work is 2 miles away). Thanks for the great reviews and I hope you're safe and well in these times.

CVT is not a problem in the Maxima and Murano. CVT reliability was an issue in older Sentras, Altima and Versas.

Love this car would buy the Platinum Reserve pkg still this is a beautiful affordable. I started see more on the road now hope Nissan doesn't discontinued think the next gen should offer AWD and 6 speed manual than be 4door sports car. This model is a 2016 got refreshed in 2019 with better styling in few upgrades would buy this over the Altima.

Hey man quick question. How do you actually choose the car you want? Do u call them up before hand and ask what's on their lot?
@100RentalCars
@100RentalCars 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the day. If my local branch is super busy, I just take whatever they have available (even if it's not the class of vehicle I originally reserved). But on slower days, I'll just walk around the lot and ask if I can have something that looks fun. Most days they'll waive or reduce the upgrade fee for me, but I never ask for that. Mainly I just try and be nice and easygoing and they take care of me. Besides, I don't really care what I rent, as long as it's something I haven't driven before.

The jury is still out on the most recent models, but Nissan CVTs are known to break and require costly replacements soon after warranty.
@Iridiumcosmos
@Iridiumcosmos 4 жыл бұрын
rico Mamba Usually edging around 100K miles is when CVTs show sign of premature failures. They’re weak transmissions in a sense that they use a kevlar/steel push belt in order to transmit the power to the wheels. This is another reason why the fluid needs to be flushed more often than any other transmission. That belt can only handle so much.
