The Nissan Maxima has been surviving (and sometimes thriving) as a premium midsize sedan since 1981. The current generation Maxima debuted in 2016, so we took a look at the 2019 model to see how things have improved.
The V Motion design has aged well, particularly compared to the ever-more-outlandish designs seen on some of the Maxima’s more luxurious competitors. The floating roof design remains, but there are now five new wheel designs and a new paint option: Sunset Drift (bright orange). Inside, the Maxima benefits from nice materials and extremely comfortable Zero Gravity seats. This is a good car for long drives.
The Maxima still employs a naturally aspirated V6 engine-no turbochargers here. It’s good for 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque, sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Despite the impressive power numbers and front-wheel drive, Nissan effectively mitigates any uncomfortable torque steer. The suspension is excellent and the interior is quiet, but the brake and steering feel are less than precise.
Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are both incorporated into the Nissan Maxima’s infotainment system, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Shoppers with newer devices will be pleased to see the high-speed USB-C ports, too. Finally, the Maxima scores well in crash test from the IIHS and NHTSA, and benefits from an array of advanced safety systems. Unfortunately, Nissan ProPilot Assist-found on the new Altima and the Rogue-is not available on the Maxima.

Anyone who owns this car (like myself) knows how nice they are. Nissans problem is they market it as a "sports car". It's not, it's more an entry level luxury/sport sedan. Imagine toyota marketing the avalon as a sports car. Cmon. Maximas are the best of both worlds. Great power, sharp looks, but super comfortable and great gas mileage for a v6. Anyone who owns one knows what I mean and loves it

Plan to own one soon. Going from a 2011 mustang gt to a 2020 maxima. All the negativity is coming from people who don't actually drive them and just have internet based opinions. They're like movie critics, they live in a different reality and don't live the way regular people do. Which is who these cars are for. Regular people

@@snotellekS I did pretty much the same thing. I went from a highly modified 07GT to a 2018 Maxima SV. Sure the Max is fairly quick and does get great gas mileage, but the front wheel drive really sucks. I both love and hate this car.

@@Therealpeter10 to some degree the Maxima's are Reliable. The main issues is the CVT. Back in 2017 I was looking to Purchase one , but heard so many complaints. But then there are people that have well over 200k miles on them. It just depends on where you buy it from and who the Previous owners were. I'm on my second Toyota Camry and have had issues with both. I'm now looking at something else. Just do your research. Good luck 👍

The Maxima is a beautiful car to drive. Buckets of power when you need it, comfort and ride quality is like butter,. Yes the steering could be stiffer but it is accurate enough. Reliability is off the charts. The idea of paying almost double for a BMW 5 or 6 series is madness when this car offers so much for the price.

I have driven a lot of Maximas. Reviewers always pick up on the 4 door sports car thing. I get so tired of hearing that as a starting point of downplaying the Max. My Max's have always satisfied me to the max (Sorry). Currently I have a 2019 SL Max. It is a powerful and stylish vehicle. It has kept this 80 year old driver happy with its acceleration and its old guy safety additions.

I actually owned a 1987 Nissan Maxima, purchased it brand new and owned it until 2012 when I finally traded it in and purchased a Honda CR-V. It was definitely a tough little car, they don’t make them like that anymore. This new generation Maxima looks to be everything the 1987 was and lots more. It’s definitely a four door sports car 🚗 great review
@afcgeo882

F CHINO-jr. unfortunately, it isn’t. It’s slower than the Altima turbo, with a smaller trunk as well and the interior space is almost exactly the same, but it’s big, bulky and heavy, with poor grip in the corners and a bit of body roll. It’s no sports anything anymore, just a Nissan Taurus.
@thomascollins612
@thomascollins612 4 жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 haha Nonsense. It's faster than the Altima turbo off the line and from a rolling start. Nice try. Numerous reviews also state that it's sportier than the Altima. The Altima is not even available in AWD with the turbo motor either, which makes the slightly extra cargo space in the cheaper sedan worthless to most buyers. There is also no variable valve timing in any Altima with the turbo motor, so that's also a non-starter. If you add a K&N drop-in filter to the Maxima, acceleration is even better. The interior is nicer and it's just the superior car. You have obviously never driven the Maxima and probably own an Altima. This is no Taurus (or Impala). Buy better tires and put EBS brake pads and slotted rotors in the Maxima, and the Altima is a joke. No 4 cylinder turbo is going to replicate the feel, sound, EFFORTLESS acceleration, passing power and grunt of this Q series V6, and I've owned and suped up Subaru AWDs for ages. The current generation Maxima is a beast.

One thing I agreed with the most is on the interior and dash including integrated display. I really hate those "plopped on top fake tablet" control screens in MOST cars, including the actual luxury brands these days. Good review. I plan on hanging onto my slightly modified 2016 Maxima with only 25K miles for a long time. Wish they offered AWD and a 40HP bump, but oh well. Had a long history of highly modded Subarus and Hondas in my younger years and this works just fine for me now.

Buy a 2018 Maxima lightly used for $22K. That is the end all be all deal in family cars that can still compete, but not ultimate performance. I got my 2016 in 2017 for $19K with 12,000 miles on it. Love the car but wish it was RWD (AWD saps too much power and adds weight). Still, it's great. Way quicker than the test numbers portray. I've smoked Audi AWD turbos and base model Alfa Romeo Giulias off the lights (and yes they were trying to beat me). My main complaints, and I assume they are the same in the 2019, are the VERY slow to engage reverse gear (it's annoying as hell), the blue tooth system that tends to favor Samsung and Apple phones (my wife's phone will always connect and override mine first) and all the cracks and seams on the body that seem to suck in leaves and debris. Also the review here is correct, the steering is maddeningly unconnected to road feel. My old Camry gave more and better feedback on the twistys. Finally, I hate that the trunk release button is RIGHT NEXT TO the Traction Control switch. I can't count how many times I've thought I opened the trunk while in motion (actually it is not possible - disabled - but it still sucks to have such radically different totally unrelated feature buttons so close to each other) This is a car that will thank you for garaging it. Still, it's a wonderful, fast and engaging car. Again - buy certified used - you can get LOW mile specimens for less than half the retail price. Heated steering wheels and paddle shifters are worthless in this kind of vehicle. Don't base your purchase on that.

BEFORE you say "CVT this,CVT that", do yourself a favor and test drive one. Would it be better if the car had AWD and a regular 8 speed transmission? YES. Does it make the car any less appealing? Not in my eyes. I bought a 2019 (base model) 3 weeks ago, and let me tell you the car is nice. Feel solid, the comfort is great, and the....speed. With 300hp, without any lags or delay, it's a joy to drive. If you are looking for a 'real sport car', then get a Mercedes AMG CLS63, a BMW M5, an Audi S3, a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

I own a 2019 SR. It is beautiful. I do not have any complaints, but if this car had all wheel drive and a double clutch transmission, this car would destroy some BMW, and Audi models. The CVT is different. You really don’t feel connected to the car because of it. Don’t get me wrong, the car is a missile, and it is fast. However, there is NO sports car feel because of the CVT. NISSAN, trust me on this, you get all wheel drive and a double clutch in this thing, BMW and Audi will lose sales. Oh and one other thing, with the higher models such as the SR, and platinum versions, add more power. Your infinity counterpart has a red 400 sport, do something like that please..

Maximas used to be such handsome cars. This thing is just strange and ill proportioned looking, like so many cars the last few years.

no way. i rented a sentra (n/a) and drove it across cali for a month. it sucked. super cheap and flimsy everything. throwing a turbo into one would be nice in the ricer races at night, but come on. no thanks to the sentra. feels like it's made out of paper.

Just needs to get rid of that CVT transmission, otherwise it’s a fine roomy Uber plush size vehicle.

Crying shame Nissan won't sever relationship with the garbage bin Renault, it seems evident ever since Renault got involved, Nissan has sucked ever since.

CVT garbage that now no longer looks distinctive thanks to the Altima. Still fwd only unlike the Altima. They couldnt even bother to give the front a LSD for its "sportyness". Nothing sporty here. At the Maximas price point get something actually sport like the Kia Stinger

Nissan is the worst automaker from Japan. Their former CEO is in prison right now for corruption charges and they are basically owned by the French aka Renault. I feel sorry for those people who spend their hard earned money on these cheap and ugly cars. Toyota is the best.

....Yup.. I've actually had my notebook out, while reviewing a car... let's just get this done... ..as the 2019 Nissan Maxima fucking sucked. This vehicle is simply awful, Awful, AWFUL! Nope, forget it, I'm not going to the positives I have to say for this vehicle.. because even the slightest amount aren't enough to outweigh the negatives of this shite of a vehicle. I'm going to dive in through this brain-grating mess. So yeah, this is the latest facelift of the latest generation of a vehicle that should have never existed to begin with. And the best way I can put it to ya'll is that if you've experienced the other iterations, you've pretty much did the same to this vehicle too. However, I didn't think that this iteration of the Maxima would be worse, than the supreme idiocy that were the previous 6th and 7th generations... BUT IT IS... NOT, ONLY.. was this vehicle so... SICKENINGLY STUPID and MALICIOUSLY TOXIC... it's also... PRETENTIOUS. This generation of the Maxima, more than the other iterations, tries to mask all of its demented messages about a combined full-size and sports sedan rolled into one with inconsistent marketing, and moments where its shows off its false identity BY ATTEMPTING TO RACE AGAINST A 3-SERIES, A4, TLX ON A TRACK!... I mean.... was there seriously a fanbase... for this shit?... Are you tickling my balls, WITH THIS SHIT?! I do recall media critic Jeremy Jahns saying something very telling at the end of one of his latest videos on the current stage of Star Wars.. and I wholeheartedly agree with that. Some examples here: ...1) There was once a time where I was head-over-heels in-love with the MKIV Toyota Supra, but now, while still good, isn't as good as I remember it to be given the many repeating experiences I gave it back-to-back. 2) There was once a time, where I found the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ twins to be great at best... but now they are one of my all-time favourite vehicles... There was even once a time, where I found a lot of the previous Maxima generations to be mildly entertaining... but now I hate them.. and it's all thanks, to these ABOMINABLE SEQUELS! Generation after generation! Because neither iteration of this car is interested... in trying, in increasing development, in representing its real identity, in making the dying sedan world more special than ever... in greatly combining sophistication and cool without being obnoxious... other than the fact that new one has a CVT tranny in it (still one of the worst as expected from Nissan).. they are all in essence... THE SAME. The persona never grows, there's never a clear sense of an actual interesting new formula full-size sedans (or sports sedans if on a different world) being told. And instead, they feel like the WORST excuses for try-hard overdone styling, ride and handling balance and function that meet far from full-size and sports sedans should put out, try-hard parts bin interior with numerous off build-quality and fit-and-finish, and these guys simply having inhumanely WARPED thought processes for the things they are doing! This latest generation Maxima including this fucking facelift is the worst of them all simply because this new Maxima feels so proud! Of what it's inhumanely stupid thought processes it has been doing generation upon generation. Biggest evidence of that is how Nissan still markets it. There is literally A RECAP to when this vehicle was sold as the "4-Door Sports Car" and to what still follows after with absolutely still no thought put into it.. this vehicle THINKS... that I actually believed it, as a true sports sedan... I have NEVER seen such a more poisonously pretentious vehicle depicted on marketing. This vehicle, this generation, this series, is so degrading, and mean-spirited towards sedans... both full-size sedans and sports sedans. It makes full-size sedans look completely weak and unreliable, and it makes sports sedans look like DICTATING show-offs who get off to abusing their power. The form following substance processing... is still as meaningless as ever. Try-hard styling that's bloated and incohesive, following a snug cabin with obnoxious parts and some cheap fit-and-finish and a harsh ride that's also far from sports sedans handle. (WHAT IS LIFE RIGHT NOW?).. if this is a full-size sedan you're marketing as, make it at least genuinely fun without having to exaggerate its capabilities. The luxury for the most part is lacking compared to today's market while lacking value for what it offers in general, the drive fails to combine isolation and fun, the styling fails to combine sophistication and cool while following function inside, some of the built quality and fit-and-finish is off surrounded by an obnoxious parts-bin, the identity is confusingly non-existent,... this vehicle, is just stroking my nose, with it's "edginess". The folks over at Nissan are trying, as I always had tons of respect and support for the Japanese automaker as I do with others too. Because first of all, they are way above this material. And they are TRYING THEIR BEST, but here, the material is so clear and absorbingly awful that it makes them look just as bad at the end result. You can't act through this, lads. You can't act through these actions and simple-minded thought processes. They're just deadly, they're an enigma, they're massively detrimental, and that's this car in a nutshell. Not only did this car ANGERED ME about what they're idea of a full-size sedan nor a sports sedan is, I've learned nothing. I have gained NOTHING from these experiences. (I personally sat through this vehicle because not only did I need to finish it off hopefully, but it's my personal belief that no matter how bad a car like this is... the guarantee, in my position, is that it gives me something content at the very least. It gives me something to write and yell about, and I am learning as I go in-depth onto my thoughts here. Like, this is all a learning process for me, and is imperative to my skill set as a performer... and this car and this series of generations... have CHALLENGED that philosophy. Luckily I can now let them know not to invest their time on such a garbage and HEINOUS vehicle series)... This latest Nissan Maxima made me angry, more than ever. This car just pissed me off simply, that I felt somewhat regretful, of even mildly enjoying some of the earliest generations. I felt even sillier for the defense I gave them in the first place when I was still in that mindset of not minding it. And this may sound weird even to me, but.. if you enjoy a vehicle, go on and knock yourselves out.. enjoy it. There's nothing better than enjoying it and it's indeed better off than hating it, but in this scenario, it's a different story. This car, this series, the fans that it blindly attracts, what it's been doing, what it's been influencing to the sedan world (the automotive version of Happy Tree Friends now???)... it's delusionally reprehensible. I mean.. right now there are cars, even full-sized ones and sports sedans that came out this year that are doing so well under the radar.. that are simply just so worthy of your attention and time being invested by experiencing them. I simply can't understand how this vehicle.. is still a sales success... I just don't get it... I mean... is this really what automotive industries think we actually want? To experience and own THIS? I'm not even going to call it entertainment, just *THIS... UDDER.... FILTH!!* Lads.. a much better interpretation full-size sedan: the all-new 2019 Avalon from Toyota.. heck even a much better interpretation of a 4-Door Sports Car too with not much more money with already being a better value overall: the all-new 2019 G70 from Genesis..... give those vehicles all the attention they deserve. Those vehicles actually CARE about effort put into. Those are the kind of sedans in a dying world that we need right now, and not going under the radar.... THIS being in the radar through the public world, you gotta be fucking kidding me. But as it is.. the new Maxima is so obnoxious, so hypocritical, so manipulative, so painful to-live with, there's nothing even charming about it, it's personality is THE WORST, these vehicles do not treat themselves at what they really are and should be and don't care within any effort being put into, etc. I am fascinated (in a bad way) with how this thing is still in production, apparently even having a target market and fanbase, and how it treats full-size sedan shoppers and car enthusiasts around the globe, and the inescapable fact that it's so full of NOTHING. The usability and easy-to-live with nature of a full-sized car? NOTHING. The true character and drive of a sports sedan? NOTHING. The capability of greatly balancing sophistication and cool being a full-sized car without trying too hard? NOTHING. The overstyled jagged incohesive design that tries to dress up as something it isn't? NOTHING. Form following function? NOTHING. The value it has for the money compared to sports sedans and full-size sedans? NOTHING. It's real identity NOTHING! It's world?... NOTHING!!! You know what? I'm done.. I'm done..I'mdoneI'mdoneI'mdoneI'mdoneI'mdoneI'mdonI'mdone.. I am done, with this vehicle, I am done, dealing with it more, I am done, still seeing it exist, I'm done, with this series that I hope Nissan puts to an end... Carlos Ghosn.. screw you, and your abominable creations! This is the worst series of vehicles to ever exist. FINAL RATING: 0/10
