I drive mixture of highway, city, pull a 25hp kubota, daughter's horse trailer, let it idle in the morning to warm up and sit in the truck at breaks at work with it running. Have 7000 miles on it. Meh Kevin once you got rid of the governmental emissions detune from the AEM it is a reasonably sound motor. Though some do fall on the sword which is likely partly emissions related. At least they had a 100k warranty and not the 60k they short the gas trucks with. Using mine for commercial 1/2 ton appropriate sized towing. My first went 371,000 before losing a head gasket due to low coolant from a leaking EGR cooler. Damn emissions part. My second motor has this post tune useless part deleted. It has 345,000 miles on it so far. Buddy in the same business has 360,000 miles on his also deleted & tuned 2nd gen ED.

The fact that a new EcoDiesel in that configuration of RAM 1500 gets 32 mpg tells me that long-term it must be more impressive. Every Diesel pickup truck that I've driven has only improved it's overall performance and fuel economy AFTER the engine gets broken in. As long as the truck isn't abused, or neglected, I suspect that it will really start to shine after 50k Km.

I believe the most beneficial route for the viewers would be a long-term test of the 2020 ecodiesel. While test videos of the new TRX would be AWESOME, the fact is the high price point and off-road specific nature of that pickup puts it into a much more niche market, whereas the ecodiesel represents a much more practical purchase, one that a majority of viewers is likely to make when compared with the amount of people who will end up being able to purchase/buy/drive the new TRX. Also, i know many of us would be interested to see what sort of mechanical hiccups may come about with this new 3rd generation engine. Just my two cents, love the channel!

They are selling the Ram 1500 V8 unleaded here in Fiji. It’s going for USD $87,375.00. It costs USD $6.80 per gallon to fill that truck up according to the unleaded gasoline price here in Fiji. It’d be nice if they brought that Eco Diesel Ram 1500 here it’d be more ecnomical. According to the salesman that V8 1500 makes it to the other side of the main island and ends up using more than a half tank of fuel. Not sure how accurate that is but as you can see it’d be pretty expensive. I’ve got a Volkswagen Amarok V6, not a full size pick up but getting 241 horsepower power output and 370 lb.ft torque figures. I like the look of that Ram 1500 but I still prefer a traditional gear shifter and not the dial but otherwise storage and comfort wise looks very impressive. Real big fan of the side storage and the multi purpose tray door. Thanks for the video. Look forward to you reviewing a TRX when it comes out. I'd like to see a test where someone uses a graduated cylinder for the fuel supply. The two click pump cutoff is too dependent on the volume of fuel being dispensed at the station when you're filling up. The more people fueling at the same time, the lower the volume of liquid and the fewer air bubbles, (back pressure) which causes the pump to shut off. I purchase both K1 Kerosene and dyed diesel for a heater and a 37hp tractor. I dispense into Jerry cans and in both cases, once the cans get 75% full, the pump will cutoff with less than 4 gallons of fuel. I milk the pump and get a full 5 gallons, up to the tippy top.

Now this probably won't be a popular opinion but DO NOT GET AN ECODIESEL AFTER WARRANTY. I had a 2015 Ram ecodiesel regular cab 4x4, and at around 90,000km the EGR valve, cooler, and DEF tank pump went within a 2 month period. Now you wouldn't assume the pump would be a big deal, only you'll discover they have it permanently fixed in the tank, and you have to replace the entire unit at a cost of $3,000 Canadian. This part alone, far makes up for any fuel savings you're receiving outve the diesel over gas option. Now I'm not 100% sure what they've changed for this 3rd generation eco-diesel, but I would still heavily recommend the Hemi if you're going long term. The emissions garbage absolutely ruin the Diesel, and the MTO (Ministry of Transportation) does regular checks on diesels in my area to make sure they aren't deleted. The Hemi has been around since 2003, and is a sound choice with plenty of parts available.
@022Mopar4 жыл бұрын
@Ian Southern Ontario (Not Toronto), the MTO is regularly dipping tanks for dyed diesel, and looking to see the emission crap is still on. It isn't like Alberta or Saskatchewan where no one would ever care to check. To me, if you have to think about removing an entire system from a new truck and spend a few thousand dollars to tune it and remove the EGR system (they're prone to leak coolant, and when you delete the system/tune, you no longer have that working gauge) then you're looking at buying the wrong truck.
@vernlochtefeld16264 жыл бұрын
Mopar022 Your government is dipping in your truck tank to check your diesel and inspecting you for emissions fixes to your truck? This kind of nanny state or governmental interference in your life & tyranny would suck. I wouldn’t vote for the ever bigger more controlling take more tax money type government. I wish Canada the best & hope they don’t go further down that path. Shoot Hope the voters here don’t get hoodwinked into voting for that crap come November. Oh btw you are talking about a different truck & motor. the gen 4 trucks had a gen 2 motor not the radically different gen 3 motor with an entirely different emissions system that comes in the 5th gen ED. Also 100k warranty that comes with the new diesel truck is often longer than people keep their new truck anyway. So. Ot sure how much your thoughts apply to this truck.!

4wolverines I own 2. It’s a turbo diesel. “Responsiveness” and diesel aren’t really two things that go together. If you want off the line performance get a gas engine, diesels aren’t built for that. That being said I think it has plenty of get up and go.

Reginald Senegal my last truck was a 2017 f250, I’m aware of what you can get out of a large V8 diesel, that’s not what we’re taking about here. We live in a society that wants the responsiveness of a gas V8, but we also want to put large wheels and tires on AND get 30mpg all at the same time. I’m just clarifying the difference. If you want a “fast” diesel then get a heavy duty truck with twice the power. That obviously doesn’t apply here or people wouldn’t be buying the light duty diesels.

3.92 will kill you on the hwy. Esp if you're towing. At 75mph in a hemi I'm close to 2100 rpms. I don't live near a 4lane so.... that's okay. I get great mileage at 55 to 60, just something for you to think about. And calculated the highway rpm at 60 mph would be like having a 3.55 ratio. I now have 153,000 miles on my truck. After about 40,000 miles. The truck would get 31mpg on a trip filling up in Redwood City, CA, going to Lancaster, CA. That was driving the speed limit up to 70 mph. Over 2 mountain passes, for a distance of about 330 miles. That was with the stock 31.6" tire diameter. Currently with 275/60-20 tires and a 4 inch lift. With a 250 lb Ranch Hand Legend front bumper. A camper shell, with a full load in the bed. During a gusty wind day. With rain half the trip. I still got 28 mpg.

I have a 2020 Limited with the Hemi V8. It's a dog for MPG's. Wish they had the diesel when I purchased mine.

i'll never understand why they can't just make a normal truck. bolt a stick onto that engine and put it in a 4x4 truck i can actually fit a 2x4 in the back of.

Your diesel is cheaper than gas? Here in the U.S. diesel is $1.50 MORE per gallon than gas making a diesel a zero dum game for most of us.
