2020 GT500 Track Pack vs 2020 BMW M5 Competition - 1/4 Mile Drag Race !!
Drag Race between a 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 and 2020 BMW M5 Competition. The BMW M5 is the underdog weighing 4400 lbs and making only 617 Horsepower whereas the Shelby GT 500 weighs about 200 lbs (100 kilos) less and makes over 100 horsepower more.The GT 500 Shelby Mustang GT 500 is owned by @Shmee150 and driven by our good friend Brooks from @DragTimes. The 2020 GT 500 powered by a 5.2 L Supercharged V8 which is rated at 760 horsepower and 625 lb/ft of torque. Our 2020 BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4 Liter Twin Turbo V8 which is rated at 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. So, who wins? Watch the video and see what happens, and tell us what you think. @GG du 74 the M5 CS is the right race for the gt500. I think the M5 comp is more in line with the gt350 but hats off to the Germans. They don’t make cars built for straight line speed but damn that M5 is a force. 150hp and 250lb disadvantage and it’s that close?

This can be looked at in so many different ways. Yes the BMW driver has a better reaction time to get it to the finish line first in the second race. But that cannot take away the fact that the GT500, in this race, was quite a bit quicker and had a higher trap speed.

@@MichaelLeeGundamPlayzTV The M5 Actually is not quicker. The M5 never dipped below 11 seconds in the quarter mile. The GT500 is 10.9s every time. And they clearly state in the video that the M5 driver "got you at the light." Look at the reaction times, the M5 driver is better. The GT500 is Quicker in ET an Faster in trap speed.

When comparing vehicles, for me trap speed is more important than the ET.

Trap speed is a good comparison to use when you want to know what would happen from a roll, or rather when traction is not an issue (awd vs rwd, bad tires vs good tires, bad track prep, etc). Clearly the Mustang would win from a roll, since it has a higher trap... but not from a stop, under these traction conditions.

@@dundonrl Sure, if you go illegal speed limits. M5 is AWD, so driver mod is not an issue and they didn't even use launch control correctly here. A 21 M5 with launch control is a 10.8 second car.

Must be pretty bad DA looks like Florida. M5 comps have ran 10.8s trapping 128-130mph in better conditions and I’m sure the GT500 could run a better time than at as well

@Connor Wilson Yes, Florida heat hurt the times. Was a hot humid day when we raced. The M5 has run a best of 10.9 at 126 in Florida air. Agree, the M5 would likely run 10.8 at 128 at Cecil County or MIR. GT500 would likely run 10.6 at 133 mph in better air as well. Thanks for watching !

Why no Launch Control on the M5? You should try it with an LCI, they fixed Launch Control there and it should run about .3 seconds faster overall.

It just doesn't compete with the Shelby, so you can't complain when you try to compare them and there's no real comparison.

We don't care what their rated. We care what they actually put down on the dyno. We all know BMW underrated their cars. Just look at the supra, if you don't agree. The difference between the two cars is likely more like 50hp. Lastly, how does the M5 win if you add the reaction time to the eta, for the two cars, the Mustang has a lower total. 11.174 plus 1.68 M5 vs 10.998 plus 1.82 Mustang. Totals are 12.854 vs 12.818. It's extremely close, but unless the track is shorter on one side vs the other, the Mustang wins.

Nevermind. I figured it out. The reaction times are not the 1.68 and a 1.82, it's .08 vs .29. Which means 11.174 plus .08 vs 10.998 plus .29, comes to 11.254 vs 11.288... giving the win to the M5 by .036
