@mishahendriks30203 жыл бұрын
I have a DF20 from mid 2018, still half a year of warranty. Very nice motor, BUT has a big issue with clogging of the (too) narrow cooling channels. Mine has been serviced professionally before (and last year even after) winter storage, but I just had 2 days of frustrating flushing and cleaning because my DF20 was overheating when we launched our boat for the new season. It goes into limb-home mode when the cylinderhead temp is 80-90°, which is a good thing of all the sensors (I have the SDS cable and software, so I can monitor the temperature). But after having spoken to a lot of mechanics who service outboard engines, they all agree that they’ve made the coolingchannels to narrow. Suzuki service centers now say you have to pull the starter cord a few times AFTER fully draining the engine (after the storage procedure as described in the manual), to get rid of the last drops of water, which could be the cause of the clogging. This is not described in the manual, and non-Suzuki mechanics are very surprised by this step (as the pump is not turning fast enough, and the impeller is too low....). I’m now “in battle” with Suzuki Marine Netherlands, what they are going to do with this: a special extra procedure, a modification, etc. So be very alert with fully draining every bit of water before storage. The water in our area (Netherlands) is fresh, certainly not salt, although some people claim it is getting a bit more brackish.

@@lukass8711 not really. I now have to flush the motor every year, also using some household vinegar with a little aquarium pump, which circulates it through the cooling system. I also use some compressed air, with the thermostat removed, as there is always something left behind. If it runs ok, it runs ok for the rest of the season.

Great video! Thanks so much for posting. I was going to go with the larger engine, but actually much cheaper to upgrade yourself. I also found out from Saturn, that 10 hp is pretty much maxed out, although they say you can use a 15 hp two-stroke on the Kaboat. I'm actually thinking I'm going with the 13 footer, so would probably not be wise to put a larger engine than 10 hp on it. Very nice explanation and walk through. Is there a fuel shut off valve anywhere inside the cowling? What’s driving the “high pressure” fuel pump? Is there a simple way to determine fuel presence at the injectors? I’m trying to get one of these running again. It ran fine then wouldn’t start or run. The cut out switch (lanyard) operates normally and the engine has oil and a supply of fuel.
@laingej3 жыл бұрын
@@apackwestbound5946 no theres no fuel shutoff. The hight pressure fuel pump its electric. Try to squeeze the hose going to the injectors it is always pressurized 44psi should be rock solid you cant pinch it. If you can squeeze it then there no fuel there but if its hard it is good. Keep the fuel clean or it will shut you down. Very delicate.

Yup! You know it doesnt even like fuel stabilizer very much.. i added some and ran funny bit of misfires at certain rpm’s 1300s mostly.. went back to regular fuel and ran good again

What about the ethanol in the fuel, wouldn't it wreak havoc on all the fuel line(s) and other components? Or because it is fuel injected vs being carburated, this is essentially a non issue..?? Awesomely thorough video btw.. thanks.. subscribed and will pay close attention to your upcoming maintenance videos as I'm planning on getting one..

suzuki are much lighter than yamaha, also yamaha below 20hp are carb engines whereas suzzi are EFI down to 9.9
