Bryson DeChambeau was dominant in the final round of the 2020 U.S. Open Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., where he cruised to a six-stroke victory over Matthew Wolff. But there were plenty of other highlights as well.

Great to see a Major championship golf course bite back! Personally I like to see the best players work for their score and 21 under par birdie fests bore me silly. Far better to see guile,invention and great putting than driver wedge all week.

There is no way the R&A and USGA can stop the march of technology by lengthening courses - what they can do is test the smarts of the players. The way to do this is by redesigning courses such that driver and 3 wood landing areas are narrowed and packed with hazards - hazards that genuinely cause a player to drop 1 stroke. This will force players to use shorter clubs from the tee and longer clubs for their second shots. This will remove a player's advantage in driving the ball 350 or more yards and will returns a course to how it was meant to be played
@threeofive9401
@threeofive9401 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why they do not go to the golfball manufactures and state they want a golfball with 25% less bounce. The long hitters will still have a big advantage but at least they are not going to have courses 10,000 long with 300 yard par 3s and 800 yard par 5s.
@andyburge7358
@andyburge7358 3 жыл бұрын
@@threeofive9401 Interesting idea but the problem with that is that the bounce of a ball is not just dependent on the ball itself; a hard links course in the UK will allow the ball to bounce and run far more than the same ball on a lush parkland course in the US
@TehZNCify
@TehZNCify 3 жыл бұрын
It’s 10x more entertaining to watch a guy hit a ball 350 and make birdie than to see a guy lay up on a Par 4 and make a par. Long Drives are good for golf.

@@andyburge7358 I do not know what the differences is in how the ball bounces on a links course today when compared to the ball bounce on a links course 20 years ago. But my thought was a method of turning the clock back so that the courses of the past can be used today.

@@bbqheavynuts Certainly not. The drug testing procedure at the US Open and all the majors is very strict (see here www.usga.org/championships-hub/additional-entry-resources/doping-policy-and-drug-testing.html ).
