Wow the new GLI keeps getting better with every new generation and has a lot more features than the older models and great bang for the buck. Now they just need to make it all electric for the next version. I have a 2014 VW Jetta GLI edition 30 with DSG since new and 50,000 miles and it's still fun to drive everyday. It was a lot more fun when I did the Unitronic stage 1 ECU and DSG tune, Neuspeed charge and discharge pipes, AEM drop in high flow air filter, and Fluidampr crank pulley. The car really came alive with the extra power, but could use a limited slip differential as it's so easy to get wheel spin now at lower speeds.

I’ve had my GLI for about 8 months now and I love it. Tremendous bargain. There are a few things (mostly interior) where VW went a little cheap but I would say that where they did it’s strategically placed. VW also sandbagged on the fuel economy. I get about 27-28mpgs around town but I get about 38-40 on the highway. Sometimes a little higher if it’s flat.

nice review, the way you summarized it, in the end, is exactly what went through my head when I decided to buy mine in April. I did end up getting the manual just because I know there's not many years left for that transmission as a whole. Lot of people talk about buying stick shifts but not having a conventional transmission (electric cars) sells 2X of manual transmission cars now in the US. All the brands will follow the money. This might be one of the last generations of a new car that offers a manual transmission, get them while you can!

Got to follow command instructions as it needs to be. You can say anything through Car Play, and it will work😊 I don't know why you would compare it to the Arteon, because the Arteon is a very isolated and luxurious cruiser. It's not meant to be loud or as sharp on the steering, rather it's informative and relaxed. Performance wise they are +/- equal from speed to 110 (after the Arteon's bigger turbo has the advantage), and off the line the Arteon is faster due to AWD.

No issues for me after 13 months and 15000km. I’ve owned 3 recent VWs with this engine and all have been reliable. However, I usually change every 4 years so I can’t comment on long term. As for maintenance, not more expensive that other manufacturers as it requires only 1 service per year or every 15K km.
@musicISlyf14 жыл бұрын
Those are the VW's from the past. They're great cars and reliable. Maintenance isn't really much more than any other manufacture. Oil change on these are every 10k mileage, spark plugs at ~55k ish miles. The one costly thing about these is if you get the DSG the fluid needs to be changed every 40k miles and it's not cheap.

@ACCELER8 CORRECTION: The engine noise you hear, not "fake exhaust", is REAL engine noise being pumped into the cabin by the Soundaktor system. Coupla things. I bought the 2019 version since it has a 6 year warranty. Also, you don't have to use premium gas; it'll take regular with, for me, an unnoticeable loss of performance. Mine is the Autobahn w/ stick and it's the best Jetta I've owned. (I owned four diesel Jettas starting with the 1981 two-door.) Funny, I find the fake noise silly. My salesman suggested the 'custom' mode to allow a good combination of options. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality experience at the dealership. There was no b.s. Oh, and it was a lot less expensive than the GTI I went into the store hoping to buy.
@samsumberg67034 жыл бұрын
All The Kids Are Right I have a 2019 gli autobahn. Mines a auto and had remote start so idk about the manual. But the inside of the gas cap says it only needs 87 octane. However the 228hp rating is based off of premium fuel (93 octane). I only put in premium since it’s not much more and gives better performance and burns cleaner. However you can use regular.
@pierreh43674 жыл бұрын
I have to wonder as you open the rear trunk, what would happen if you had any snow or ice left on the trunk, looks like you it would cascade off the rear window right into the trunk. what's happening... found you this evening and subbed...o purchased and still own the VW mk6 Jetta GLI Autobahn, since I am an American and live in NY... I want to tell you that fact of our VWs are made down in Mexico instead of over in Germany does, unfortunately, make a very real and very unfortunate bunch of negative problems I've had to deal with more than I would like to admit... I love my mk6 and stíl drive it today but it is a serious situation to take into consideration if in the market for an American market place VW....I also owned the 2010 mk5 Jetta S base model with the 2.5 5 cylinder 170 HP that was my first brand new car purchase...o loved this model too, I'm some ways and for certain reasons,ore than the mk6 GLI.... some subnormal 17 year old morons driving for under 3 months rammede so hard from behind that they cut me a 12k$ check since the damage was in excess of 85% of the cars value....so I used the check from insurance to finance the mk6 and paid it off with a relatively small monthly note... anyways, when you mentioned the factory in Mexico I thought it was relevant to explain how the factories without question makes a major difference in the builds quality when coming off the assembly line. cheers?

Have the USA autobahn edition and it’s so great but 40 mpg...... I average about 32 on the highway
@David-qi8ku4 жыл бұрын
I have a 2019 35th manual and regularly get 40mpg on the highway with cruise set at about 70 mph. I’ve even averaged 42mpg on a 300km trip last summer. This was calculated and not taken from the trip computer. This thing is quite good on gas and is a pleasant surprise. By the way, I do only use 91 octane so this may help.

My gti is rated 25 city 34 highway I think and the absolute highest I’ve seen when I’m granny driving to save gas was 23, usually it’s around 18

It's all in the rpms if you want high mpg. My '12 GTI averages 33 highway at 1400rpms, even at 8yrs old and with carbon build up on the valves. Proof it is the driver, fuel and oil service that dictates the fuel economy. When you approach hills let the car coast and lose speed, then accelerate at just over the peak of the hill or as you're going down. You'll make up 3-4mpg.

I went with a GTI over the GLI. I wanted actual hand brake, fog lights and a really good sound system. The GLI didn’t offer all of those unless others think that the Beats audio system is better that the Fender/Panasonic system.

Yeah - I got the GLI with Beats. It’s not as good as the Fender. But with the $6K price difference I can get one installed -:)

I will never understand why they bothered to engineer an entire new car for the MQB Jetta instead of just decontenting the A3, massaging the bodywork, and slapping a VW logo on it. I would have actually preferred that.
@mike7865514 жыл бұрын
Cause VW group does not believe in badge engineering unlike American cars, and we know where American cars ended up, in the dumpster
@vomErsten4 жыл бұрын
mike786551 VW absolutely does believe in badge-engineering, they are just good at it where American companies barely even tried to do well. A decontented A3 would also be a better car than the Jetta anyway.
