I have a 2018 Elantra SE. Manual transmission and pretty basic in terms of options. I get over 40mpg. I have 139k. I maintain it very well, checking fluid between oil changes. Changed a wheel bearing and seeping water outlet. Spent under $500 on outside normal maintenance items. The most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. The car is great.

If the manual says to change the ivt fluid at 60,000 then it should be changed. Not changing it in accordance with the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule may actually void the warranty.

In many older cars, you drove away from the accident, which was an important consideration in those days. People knew to centerpunch things so they weren't involved in an offset crash. My stepfather drove his 1958 Ford truck off a bridge, when it was retrieved, he drove it home.

It’s true that at lower speed collisions, damages are less severe and MUCH less costly than newer cars
@lunawense6288
@lunawense6288 5 ай бұрын
While this is true, a life is worth a whole lot more than a car. There are very real reasons we choose to reduce impact to the driver and let the car take the brunt of the damage, instead of the passenger. Your chance of dying in a car crash these days is way lower giving you the ability to go home to your family rather than just your old car. A whole lot of moms and dad's came home this year thanks to safety tech. PITA yes, but its oh so worth it in the long run.

In fact, it's faster from a dead stop. Great tech, great car.

My 2019 Elantra sport with DCT transmission has been terrible. DCT transmission plates had to be replace at 30k miles. The worm shaft had to be replaced. There is creaking noise in the suspension when turning slowly and the dealer has replaced serval parts and can’t find where the noise comes from. Currently with 47k miles and now the pain is starting to fall off.
@joundi007
@joundi007 Ай бұрын
Dct is super sensitive to slow start or constant stops with slow movement, u ll wear the clutch easily that way , everytime u accelerat from a stop give it gas to help link the transmi plates ,if there is a lot of cars slowly moving wait a moment till the distance between u and guy in front increase then accelerate a little bit , dct is not a good choice for a crowded city.

@@thejesusgeek24 not sure about the thermostat being 200 bux if it's mechanical. Lol maybe that's with an inspection cost. An older model thermostat is around 40 bux. Anyway, if you were to do it yourself, it would take no more than 30 mins but they factor in draining the fluid, cost of the fluid, bleeding the fluid, and perhaps pressure test after too. So 2 hours is fair for a dealership or any repair shop.

Since you travel all over the country, I highly recommend taking it to another Hyundai dealership to have the CVT fluid changed now rather than later. Preventive maintenance is never a bad idea. Following the severe service schedule created by Hyundai will not void the warranty. That's nonsense. If they push back, insist that they change it, and stand outside the service bay to watch and make sure they actually change the fluid. They're giving you the run around because they don't want to be on the hook for replacing your CVT under warranty. It would be better for it to fail at 60k miles under warranty than changing the fluid just outside warranty and it failing at that point.

Great update - gives me confidence in mine - I have a '21 Elantra (called Preferred here, middle model, but I got a heated leather wheel and they take away the dual heat unit). Only 25,000 km on it - I added the 8 year or 160,000 km warranty ($2000) - maybe in year six I will sell it to a courier or something. My steering wheel does do that swish sound - but only occasionally - so I bet I will have to have them swap that out. Interested in what the engine mount warning was. The mileage of these cars is like magic - suburban city I get 5.6L/100km to 7.3/100km in winter. I literally gave up on the factory tires and move to all weather (so winter rated but fine to use in summer) - rims and the pressure sensors and storage was just too expensive. The bonus was that it bumps the sidewall rating up (stiffer) probably to counter the deeper tread. I lost a bit of mpg but they are way nicer 3 seasons of the year no question - Bridgestone WeatherPeak.

Was that the only problem? While I agree that sucks and needs addressed it doesn’t sound like any major mechanical problems occurred.

A lot of Stuff failed and replaced under warranty. That’s the difference between a Toyota/Lexus. 20 years I haven’t got anything replace or any thing failed.

I like how it looks. I've grown tired of round cars with smooth edges, cars have looked that way since the 1990s and finally sharp edges are making a comeback.
