The mk 1‘s design is simply unique. There has never been anything like it since. I bought my 180hp Quattro coupe in 2006 and it‘s still my everyday ride 👌🏼

Just finished a stage 2 tune on the a 2006 MK1 225hp with the 6 speed and stock turbo and intercoolers; and it is wicked fast now and even more fun. Now it pulls up to about 6800 rpm, but I think the engine could probably spin up to about 9000 if the programming would allow it. The TT is the car I wanted my 1980 Sirocco to be when I rebuilt a GTI 1.8 engine with forged and balanced 11:1 pistons, over-sized valves and a high-lift racing cam among other things,...into it, decades ago. That engine spun to 8000 before the point ignition started to break down. Anyone looking to play with this car should first rebuild the suspension and upgrade the shocks and struts; lowering springs aren't recommended due to a change in suspension geometry which apparently doesn't improve the handling...try installing an air dam if you want instead. Have fun!

I am 50yrs old and vividly remember collecting my 225T in 2000..it was so stylish back in the day, the quality of the interior was excellent...people would stop and stare and ask questions often about the Elk Test that early TT models failed and was big news in 1998 ...great shame that SUV have killed this iconic car, my wife had a TTS 2018 I had to drive from Oxford to Holyhead Ferry on a wet miserable November day and was running late, on the Welsh A roads in those conditions it was very quick and safe I ran an M4 and if I had tried to drive at the same pace due to lateness I would have been dead in a ditch or a nervous wreck...irony is my wife replaced TT with Range Rover Velar so we are also responsible for TT demise...😢

The TT never failed an elk test. That was the Mercedes A class of that time. The early TTs were said to be prone to snap-oversteer on very high speeds (above 200 kph). Some people died in accidents, victims tried to trial Audi. But charges were dropped, the accidents were addressed to driver error. However, to avoid image loss, Audi decided to still recall the car and adjust the suspension, retro-fit ESP and put an optional (!) rear spoiler.

I remember selling these Mk 1 TT’s in an Audi Garage over 20 years ago - truly a halo car at the time. The big selling point was form and function ie it had to look good and still serve a purpose, eg the electric window buttons didn’t look good and might date, so they were carefully hidden behind the door handles. It was felt car radios would always date after a few years, so the chrome Audi branded cover plate would slowly cover the radio with a nice soft close dampened action. I got stopped so many times by people asking about the car at the time, it really was special in the late 90’s early 00’s - nice to see it feature alongside the last model - a future classic for sure!

The original looks better. We had an original and now have a TTS which is spectacular. I was out driving in our original equipped with 4 winter tires/tyres and was pulled over by a cop. He wanted to know why I was driving so fast. I replied I did not exceed the speed limit. He agreed let me go then followed me for several kilometres/miles. That original was fantastic in the snow. The new one has more power however I prefer the original for its styling. Cheers from a Canadian fan.

MK1 TT wins. The new model looks a bit generic like most cars these days - to the untrained eye it can be hard to tell whats sporty and whats not these days. The MK1 is simply too unique for both its time and in my opinion even today.

Back in the day the Audi TT 225 PS was quite expensive, relatively. It was called by TopGear “a cow in a tracksuit” because its underpinnings came from the unloved (by some) Golf mark 4...... and it was heavy. But how stylish and lovely it looked. It was sad that it’s sheer style made it so criticised as being a hairdressers car ...... Hugh Grant in About A Boy, kind of thing. Really gorgeous in coupe form. Loved it.

I had one of the originals, just after they introduced the spoiler, a real head turner at the time, people would ask if it was the new beetle. Very original and very close to the initial design. Think you should have covered the interior as well as that was also a master piece in design.

I had a 225 TT . Bought new in 2003 .YP03YBY . It’s still on the road from looking on the DVLA website as well ! I kept it four years and loved it . Yes, it wasn’t the greatest on the road but that was made up by the four wheel drive which meant it was really quick out of wet bends and the like . It looks so much better than any of the versions that followed. I miss it ...

Personally, I think the original was a better design. The interior of the newer version is one of Audi’s best, but the original was even better. I had a convertible with the baseball moccasin seats which were gorgeous. The detailing was superb and on Avus alloys it looked just gorgeous. Very sad to hear that Audi are dropping the TT. Fewer and fewer manufacturers are offering coupés and convertibles.

Having owned the 245HP version with Quattro over six months, I would definitely say the 2019 model is a great allrounder, has a great practicality and in the same time provides some of the old Audi sport characters... The interior (although from 2014) and the Quattro stability are hardly matched by any other car maker, especially for this kind of money. The mk1 is a definitely a classic and some of the pinnacles in the car industry.

I have a 2006 mark 1 Audi tt quattro. The original looks the best. It's not without its problems though. The styling inside and out are sublime but engine mount bolts, springs, instrument panel and electrics are problem areas. Paint is good and you dont see any rusty tt's. Mine only has 40,000 original miles on it from 2006 and still will cost you 5 plus grand in excellent condition with plenty of full service history.

The Mk1 TT was iconic and stood out from the crowd, but it took a further 2 generations to iron out all its faults and shortcomings. I've had a Mk2 and have a Mk3 now and it really is a brilliant motor. Its not as genuinely sporty as some RWD cars and its not as practical as a hatchback but it fills that middle ground perfectly. Looks superb outside and, as is always stated in reviews, the interior is the best around.

Always loved the TT and when my car unexpectedly and catastrophically failed it's MOT last year I took the opportunity to grab one as they are so cheap now. Got a cracking one for £1700. Great car. Still quite quick, comfy, quiet, bloody good looking. I even had some comments at work (a primary school - the middle aged female teachers aren't exactly petrol heads) about having a flashy car! It's been really reliable, is decent on insurance, returns over 30mpg. I love it and will keep it until it dies.

The original TT was a head turner. Never forget the 1st one I saw. I had to turn around and park at the courthouse in our small town to get out and look it over. Knew I had to have one. Got rid of my BMW z3 and got that Audi. Drove it for 12 years and seeing this video makes me wish I had kept it. The new version is still a sweet ride but rather generic in comparison to that 1st TT.

Can't believe you spent 90% of the video on the soul-less, new, angular model compared with a few seconds talking about the beautiful, unique Mk1, which is way more beautiful in every way. Especially the roadster. It was stunning compared to every one of the next gens. Just my opinion.

My Dad bought my mum one of these when it first came out and it was a real head turner. The one thing I remember was the turbo lag and the cormfy seats. Its a shame Audi is killing the TT off- but with Merc also following suit with the SLK/SLC edition its sadly a sign of the times.

I once owned a Mk 1 TT 180 with a manual gearbox, i bloody lvd the car 😀. Gr8 fun 2 drive 👍. Ok the 180 was not as punchy maybe then the 225 would have most likely been, BUT it had ample power. Accelerating away from lights was gr8 fun and accelerating on2 a motorway or dual was fun also. Also going round country rds 😀. I sold the TT 2 get my present car which is a 2006 range rover sport. Ive had the RRS now 4 a little over 2 years and its a lovely car 2 drive. Yes expensive it can b but i knew that bout the car and went in2 it with eyes and mind open. But u know what. While owning the RRS, as much as i lv the car, lv the high up driving position, lv the whole feel of the car around me and the way it handles, ive always had my mind on the TT . 4 the past year on and of ive been thinking bout getting the Mk 2 TT. And i might very well end up getting shot of the RRS 4 a TT Mk 2. I miss the low down driving sporty position. The manual gearbox which makes u feel more of a driver i think.

Have just sold my 911 991.1 and bought a similar year TTS in lieu, and frankly I have no regrets……not to mention a tidy and substantial sum of cash in my pocket ! …. I know, the hair dressers Porsche label is bandied liberally about, but apart from that gorgeous 911 engine note and quality feel, I love the Quattro drive and practicality of the TT, together with the sharp chiseled design. Apart from the cache of the ‘911’ which I got over pretty quickly, I am super pleased and pleasantly surprised by the TT….. no regret’s whatsoever

Are the early one's actually better made or is it simply Audi's are just far too complicated nowadays and seem to get much of their income from selling spares. I see Audi is at 34 out of 40 for reliability on the reliability index and that is the worse performing brand for a brand that does a wide range of cars and Audi does do some smaller simpler cars that normally help improve a brand's reliability rating so their reliability is abysmal and pretty much junk status but a lot of it is their desire to put in technology that to me is un-necessary. Such is the way of Audi's nowadays that it seems like the older models will last further into the future than the current models. People need to realise it's the high end models with a digital cockpit and an overdose of gadgets that is killing their reliability. Saying that I'd much rather have a Mazda MX-5 than a Audi TT there is a night and day difference between the engineering quality of those models and just don't want to keep drip feeding Audi money over the long term. This is especially true if you are the sort of person who buys when a major chunk of depreciation has made the car much better value, maybe in 3 years and you could face horrendous bills. www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer

I purchased a black edition TT in October. Beautiful car. However the low profile tyres can be unforgiving on badly pot holed roads. On reflection. I would probably have gone for the LED display readings for A/C temp etc.One thing I did learn from this video is that only the top end models support apple play and android auto. In my ignorance I have been trying to set this up on my MMI screen with no luck. Now I know why.!!Overall. If you want a fun exciting beautifully built "sports" car, then you cannot go wrong with the TT. Who knows. In the future, they may even become a classic collectors car.

From the Mk I on, it's been a brilliant design: practical, no blind spots. Unfortunately here in the US Audi stopped offering manuals after 2008, except for a TT-RS in 2015. So there's a huge product gap between the VW Golf GTI /R and the Porsche Cayman if you want a m/t sports or sporty car.

I would have to say the mark 1 TT for me i purchased a new Misano red 1.8 180 break Quattro coupe bought from Bedford in 2002. i have to say sometimes it felt clumsy and is nowhere near as good to drive as the car i have now what i currently drive being a MK 3 TT, but please remember back in the day it really was something from another galaxy the car just stood out and the admiring stares i can remember to this day never the less it felt like driving a bus and more so my car being red lol i loved the interior there really was no other car around at the time to equal it the cabin felt well just so special. i currently have an 18 plate diesel Mk 3 TT nano grey sline with sports seats and many other options the car was bought from an Audi dealer with baby miles being 800miles it was a demo car and a had a great spec so it was the right choice for me as the Audi dealers do this with demo cars i had recently changed job and would be covering lots of motorway miles the simple fact i would cover approx 15000 miles a year I'm 53 now, and I'm not so concerned about the 0 to 60 for me its. A case of having a stylish, comfortable car that's no slouch on the motorway and will give 500 miles on a full tank my only complaint on my car would be the Mk 3 TT diesel was not manufactured with Quattro and stronic transmission this would of been the drivetrain and transmission i would have chosen as I've owned 5 MK 2 TT s and 3 of those cars had Quattro and stronic a fantastic combination the car is in harmony with this drivetrain and transmission.Sadly audi never gave customers the option to spec these options on a MK 3 diesel tt. i guess you cant have every thing

2021 looks way better in my opinion and sanded by discontinuation of tt. I'd take a tt over any/all sport cars except for the Roma. I love them both and considering a ttrs now! It's practical, fun, beautiful and reliable..

I have a Mk1 225 and a MK2 RS. Both better than the MK3 but the MK1 has done full circle and turns heads with the roof down. You can also fix the turbo lag very cheaply to make it much more responsive. Put it on new coil overs as well, it is a car that makes you smile. The MK1 is a keeper even though my RS is tuned and goes like train!

The newer car is clear much better, as it should be. But I love the original. It's hard to think of another car which caused such a stir when it was released. My FWD 180bhp is fifteen years old and still lovely to behold and pleasant to drive. It's also surprisingly practical. The newer car is so stuffed full of computerised electronics it's hard to imagine one being an affordable, reliable classic in fifteen years' time. Sadly the baseball cap brigade have discovered it and look set to "modify" the hell out of it.

I owned the original quattro roadster with baseball glove interior. Drives very much like a VW Beetle ( same chassis ) with a lower center of gravity. Windblocker behind seats tend to rattle, quattro with low profile tires is useless in snow; car cannot use chains. Dash pixels go bad quite soon. Suspension very firm; Slightly difficult to get in and out as it sits so low. NO interior storage to speak off, very little in the boot. Still - great looking, good MPG and fun to drive. Guaranteed future classic.

Proud MK1 Roadster owner. 190K Km on the counter. No problems what so ever. But a TT should not have the steering wheel on the right site.

The Mk1 will always be remembered as the most iconic looking TT. It was a hard act for the Mk2 to follow, but the Mk3 is a nice way for the TT to bow out, as it's better than the Mk2 in every way, and better than the Mk1 in every way except looks.
