the 225 and 180hp engines are very different. they changed about everything to get it to 225hp. shorter intake, other turbo, better con rods, 2 intercoolers for the turbo, more oil nozzles to squirt onto the piston etc. theres a whole list of differences between 180 vs 225hp to look through. although the basic block and head design might be similar, theyre still very different

In the mid 80's, I worked in Borneo. A colleague had a Starion. I borrowed it over a weekend. As I recall, I don't think I was very impressed with the way it drove. I wasn't sure whether the turbo wasn't working, or I just wasn't driving it hard enough, but It didn't seem to have the amount of get up and go that the looks would imply. It did look wonderful, though. They still do , actually.

Audi TT Mk1s are one of my favorite looking cars ever. I just bought a 2001 roadster in amazing condition in nimbus grey. It’s art. It drives better than my old boxster (Porsche) did, the interior design is just as gorgeous as exterior. It sounds great and love the turbo.
@1SaG4 жыл бұрын
The name also harkens back to the NSU Prinz TT - which was something of a Golf GTI of the 1960s. Seeing that gorgeous interior again sure brings back some memories. I had a black FWD TT Coupe back from 1999 til about 2004 or so. It was a very early production car that had left the factory without a rear spoiler and without ESP. But it was one of the cars that got those things retro-fitted by the factory in response to that series of crashes that semi-ruined the TT's reputation initially. I loved that car to bits and it was the first "cool" car I ever had. It was super-reliable, lots of fun to drive and surprisingly practical and reasonably comfortable. I took my GF on a 1,000 km trip to France in it and we didn't have to travel light or anything. That trunk is plenty spacious for a little sports-car and you can always drop the rear seats if you need more room. And when I sold it with about 115,000 km on the clock, the whole car, and especially the interior, still looked as good as new. There weren't even any real wrinkles, let alone nicks or tears, in the leather on the driver-seat. Later in life I got to drive the TT Mk II for about a month or so and while it was a better car overall, it just didn't feel as special as the Mk I. Probably because it lacked all those quirky details in the interior that made the original TT so unique.

My TT is a 2005 I bought in 2007 off a lease with only 14k miles, but half the price of the car new. It’s been the lowest cost of ownership of any car I’ve ever had and it’s still going strong today. I opted for the naturally aspirated 3.2L 6 because the car really needed that extra oomph and torque. Mine had Quattro and the DSG- the DSG gearbox combo with that narrow V6 made this car bullet proof. The DSG simply will NOT allow you to mistreat the gearbox or the engine, and as a result I have had no issues with the power train at all. I have no problem getting in or out of the TT, and I’m 67. I find it to be the perfect height. And it has a genuinely useful load capacity… i have even brought home lumber and furniture in the TT. As to the Cube. It looks like a cross between the box and better looking car was shipped in and a microwave oven, only it doesn’t have a popcorn preset button. In and out vary stylish albeit, conservatively styled as sporty cars go. Had a friend who had one for a few years when they first came out . He loved it. I rode in it once. A bit small when you are 6'2" 240. But still very nice for the right person.

Wizard, are we going to see a video on that red Starion/Conquest in the near future? I had one about 20 years ago I always thought the car was ahead of its time!

We put Blizzaks on our first gen TT Quattro and it was unstoppable in the snow. Very, very fun and reliable car.

I'm 6'2" and most of it is from the waist up as well. I drive a Ford Flex and love it.

What's the story behind that red mitsubishi starion in the background? I know those rims and that fastback. 😂 Good old memories from the 90's.

We have a Citroën Berlingo a car based on a small van and like the Cube, it's so practical and easy to get in and out of. Other much prestigious cars end up being frustrating when they can't do what the Berlingo does and feel claustrophobic in comparison. A handy vehicle to have in any household!

Good vid on the TT - now, what about the Mitsubishi Starion or Conquest TSI next to it...???

FYI, not all quattro models are 225s! Here in the states the 180 was offered in a FWD Automatic & AWD 5speed. 225s are all 6speed Quattros. The 45 Extra horsepower over a standard 1.8T is due to the dual intercoolers, larger K04 Turbo, and more aggressive tuning.

Wizard, what about the 90’s classic Conquest TSi? Let’s see that!

The New Beetle and TT are both based on the MK4 Golf hence the similarities. I remember the episode of Wheeler Dealers where they bought a TT with no 1st & 2nd gear. It was the rivet for the selector fork for 1st & 2nd gear that had sheared. It was lucky that the transmission hadn't grenaded.

Damn, is that a Starion back there?

The name TT stems from the legendary NSU Prinz TT which was an affordable fast german street racing car in the 1960's. NSU was eventually taken over by Volkswagen/Audi in the 1970's and thus disappeared as a brand. NSU also did the RO80, the first ever regulary produced rotary engined car.

I used to tell people they were named after me when they first came out (🤣). I cannot wait for you to also talk about the Red Mitsubishi Starion (that’s what we called them in Australia 🇦🇺) behind you.
