I found it easier to tell by how bright they appear when far away. They will be more brighter than others of the same distance away. If you are unsure you can always check by looking for fissures. I also had better luck finding cores at another nearby hotspot on the ring. It definitely gets easier the more you do it.

Just to add, if you are searching places to sell, always filter out Fleet carriers if you play in open. There are ways to set a big price on goods without actually buying them, so as to lure in players to gank them for the minerals. If the price the FC is offering looks to good to be true it's because it is.

0:40 "you'll definitely be able to tell...." Well, no. I tried learning this stuff on my own, and I ran through 20 asteroids without finding a core asteroid. The ones with sub-surface deposits often look just as bright to me as the few core asteroids I did eventually find. I feel like a need a detailed rundown on how to tell the difference. I was blowing up icy asteroids, not metallic ones, and there was no pattern to the shape of the actual core asteroids. I can usually spot surface deposits before firing a prospector, but that doesn't rule out fissures. I had no idea you could select a fissure with a planted explosive and disarm it, or cut short the timer, though. I thought you just had to wait for the overall timer to end, which was taking forever. I blew up about 4 core asteroids eventually, but not once did I get an ideal yield. 3 "too much explosives, out of ideal range" results and 1 asteroid that just refused to blow up at all.

I've had a few when I approached they dimed but on inspection the fissures were there. Sometimes its a good idea to get a closer look at some of them even if they dim as you approach. I don't know if that is a glitch or a feature of the pulse wave. A thing they could do to make mining cores just a little easier would be to either eliminate the problem of rocks being stuck in the asteroid pieces or make the limpets smart enough to not crash and die attempting to get the bits.

If you like that tip, you can also do a full strength charge in a low fissure then a 1 strength charge in another low fissure and that often makes a perfect explosion if no low strength fissures you can also do full strength in average and 2 strength charge in another average, but placement of the fissures can also affect the efficiency of the blast

I like having my ASP as a fully capable mining ship. I can do all kinds of mining at once (laser, abrasion, sub-surface and deep-core) and it feels great! I have 64 cargo spots, so I fill it with 32 limpets as I have good quality limpets that last for a good amount of time and have good range. 2 collector controllers, 1 prospector, pulse-wave analyzer, detailed surface scanner, and I also have chaff, heatsink, and a good shield for when I get ganked by pirates (never been ganked by a player though) Recently went after a A-Rated FSD (I had an E for some goddamn reason) and got a nearly 30ly jump range now (I haven't even scratched the surface of research yet)

With some ships - an Asp Explorer being notable since he mentions it - you have room for a mining laser or two in addition to the seismic launcher and an abrasion blaster. You can always laser mine an asteroid and then blow it up. I did a lot of that in my last session, and that's the only thing that made it worthwhile for me, since 80% of the glowing asteroids I checked didn't have cores.

10:39 Do you have to buy limpets manually in Advanced Maintenance? If so, what is the "restock" button in the station restocking? I never had restocking costs before the Asp Explorer and was assuming it was limpet-related. p.s. I logged in and answered my own question. You DO have to buy controller limpets manually, even though the seismic limpets get bought with the station restock button.

Did 3 Asp Explorer trips and I'm starting to see the asteroids. But I've only seen the black pattern once or twice. It's very rare. Maybe it depends on some GFX settings or something. It's just not what I look for. I look for brightness and size. There are some very bright and small asteroids, that's not them. The right ones are medium size and bright. And from close, there are the fissures, so don't waste limpets unless you see those clearly. You have to be close to launch charges anyway. Even so on my first trip it took me hours to find the first one. Don't expect to find one right away .. but you will get better at this. However it's certainly not true that only black pattern asteroids are the right ones.

All of the asteroids I could find looked jagged and metallic without a single core asteroid, do different types of asteroids spawn more/less cores?
@unnecessarylingo7870
@unnecessarylingo7870 3 жыл бұрын
you have to be in a hotspot to find cores, also, different rings have different reserve types: pristine, major, common, low, and depleted. Look for planets that have pristine rings to find the most cores. You can see the reserve type of the planet/ring on the side bar thing in the system map if you select the planet.

reason you can't find a lot of them is because that spot is too popular. core asteroids have a 7 day respawn delay after they have been destroyed by any commander. you'll probably wanna go to a less popular hotspot in the bubble when you mine.

Ok, I would like to know a couple of things...I started only yesterday doing deep core mining (so treat me like a noob) and watching your video I realized that I got wrong the very first thing: the ship 😅 Spent about 60mln out of my 80 to fit a Krait MKII, while I could've saved a lot of money with an Explorer like yours...truth is, I was tempted by the cargo space (and the ship itself, I admit), and now I have to work to regain my 80mln budget; but that's ok after all. Another couple of things I didn't get are: 1) am I seeing wrong or the collector limpets shown here seem work on their own, while I have to manually lock and launch them? 2) Is it possible to land on every fleet carrier to sell? I remember trying that out some time ago on a random carrier, purely out of curiosity, and getting denied.

They exist but they're far more rare then hawkes makes them seem. At least I think so. I've fired 200 limpets into rocks and only found 3 or 4 musgravite cores and a couple other cores. My suggestion is too crack open any cores you find to get the hang of it. I don't have a good method for finding specific cores because even mining hotspots I don't find many cores. Keep looking it's meant to be a grind. I rarely find enough to fill my cargo hold before I run out of limits as a new player.

Still have to get used to finding the right Asteroids. I almost fully charge my Limpets because of that. Two questions though: 1. My Collector Limpets keep dying near the Asteroids, apparently while flying into debris. Would you reccomend clearing the asteroid completely with the blaster and then get to a safer distance for the collectors to successfully drop the materials into your refinery? I currently have 3D Collector instatlled, but I might change it to a higher collecting range 2. I don't quite unterstand the Miner's Tool: What is meant with "When"? The time I have to wait until the price is raised to the shown amount? Or how much time is left for the price. Also: Is there a "In-game" way of determining the best prices? Every station I fly to says that a different system has a better price to offer, but when I reach them, it's not the same price, and a different station offers a better price again (which again isn't the right one)

Hey, I’m kinda new to this game and thought I’d try this method out, though I’ve spent about 3-4 hours in these dang hotspots and I’m yet to find a single core asteroid, let alone a Mustravite one. Also my pulse wave scanner isn’t anywhere near as clear as the one shown in this video. I have a 0A scanner and all the rocks are all pixelated and super hard to make out even the basic shapes, which makes distinguishing ore deposit rich asteroids from core ones even harder because I can’t tell if the black lines are just the borders of the pixels or the fissures on the rock. I’m playing on an Xbox one S if that helps. Sorry for the wall of text and any help is greatly appreciated.
