"When I finally parked it(Bolt) at my home charging station, it had gone 322 miles on a single charge. Not bad for a car rated at 238 miles per charge. Even more impressive was the fact that I didn't really try very hard to get that many miles out of it. I spent plenty of time in traffic, which helped, but there were a few sections that I was moving along at 65-70 mph as well. No matter how you look at it, 322 miles out of a Bolt is pretty impressive." - Ed Hellwig Edmund's

Yes, I just drive mine like a normal car and never worry about range, and just charged every 12 days in summer and 6 in the winter (I'm not shy about using the heater). The CR staff and everyone else that hasn't actually lived with an EV are still scared about range. And in the mean time they will all have the extra expense of 500 mile range and lug around the that extra weight, and still only drive 30 miles a day. It's crazy thinking really.

I'm curious what Consumer Reports thinks the range for an EV should be these days. Edmunds' February 9th "real world" comparison showed the 2020 Bolt getting 277 miles, while the 2020 Tesla Model Y Performance got 263 miles (the more expensive Model S and Model X had higher ranges). Their testing showed that the EPA rating isn't always indicative of the real world.

Regarding the range on the Bolt/EUV, there’s nothing else that even comes close at that price point to what gm is offering. It renders the Leaf completely irrelevant. Once Ultium gets going next year, there will be options for people who need to travel further.

I have a family members with a 2018 Bolt. I took it in a road trip from the foothills in ca to the Bay Area round trip 300 miles. I was disappointed on the charging infrastructure. So many broken chargers and card readers not working. I was hoping that Chevy would do something similar to Ford and Tesla where you can plug in the vehicle and it automatically charges you. In addition the dc fast charging rate on the new bolts seem slow compared all out of the competition

The all weather tire that works just as well as any all-season tires in three seasons, and works well in the winter is the Michelin CrossClimate 2. It performs even better than the first version CR tested and lasts about 50,000 miles as well. Only downside, you pay a lot for it.

I don’t understand the fascination with AWD in SUVs that spend most of there time on the streets. I’d rather just get another set of wheels and winter tires. In a ICE SUV I’d rather take better mpg than have awd for my driving needs and I’m willing to bet for most consumers driving styles. I think its mostly marketing to get people to spend more.
@MrKozanitis3 жыл бұрын
You are correct in saying "...for my driving needs..."! Precisely! Not all people or others have the same "needs" as you! Besides, the purchase of a set of wheels, (be it two wheels, or 2x4, or 4x4, powered by gasoline, diesel, LPG, batteries, Or what have you) is primarily an emotional one, not always based on rationale. Needs, wants, desires, dreams (of lifestyles) be they actual or "borrowed" or aspired to, are all together or individually or any combination thereof, taken into consideration when deciding THE car being purchased! BTW, your comment/statement is ambiguous and confusing in one simple orthographic (i.e.spelling) aspect: "...I'd rather take better mpg then have awd..."! Do you mean you first have better mpg (and) then (sequentially) have also awd? Or do you, simply, wanted to say " than"; in which case the first negates the second! Also, people spend their time there! Their vs there! See the spelling difference and, hence how each word changes the meaning? Note: The orthography (correct spelling) makes for clarity of expressing written statements, thoughts, descriptions etc etc. Stay safe!

From the getgo, I will point out that I own an AWD car and three FWD cars, driven in the Mid-West. I switch between summer and winter tires. FWD cars with advanced traction control systems perform almost as well as an AWD car, without the complications and additional weight that come with AWD. The Bolt EUV is a crossover, and like some products out there, offers no AWD, like the Nissan Kicks, Kia Soul, and the Toyota C-HR. I know AWD can come in handy but I have driven uphill at parking lots with a FWD 2006 Ford Taurus with winter tires, where a C-RV, a RAV-4, and a 4WD pick-up truck could not. The said Taurus also out brakes my 2012 Ford Fusion AWD, with exactly the same Michelin X-Ice tires, all because the AWD makes the Fusion 500 lbs heavier. Will I buy a Chevrolet Bolt EUV? Yes. No AWD, no problem.

And while the origonal Bolt's best feature was it's 238 mile range, the farthest range at the lowest price of any electric car sold then, it didn't sell as well as gm hoped, primarily because it was the 2nd ugliest ev car sold, after only the BMW I-3!!! The Bolt EUV is not a real attempt at an SUV, so no AWD is needed. GM just wants to sell more Bolts in the next few years so that they gain some experience with EVs now in hopes to discover and iron out any issues before their next EV models. The first few years of sales were pathetic and it was only last year GM decided to push enough to sell a decent number - probably after seeing Tesla's market cap blow past theirs. The Bolt EUV is probably considered a simple plus-up in size variant that they could deliver to boost sales without incurring any significant expenses to alter the manufacturing line. I'm not sure about reliability as I've seen some videos of Bolts with suspension issues as well as a recent battery issue. Instead of AWD more people need to learn to sit their ass home during bad weather. Honestly, just buy a police scanner and listen for all the rollovers, cars into utility poles, and the like when snow falls - even up north where DPWs know how to treat roads in wintertime.

The Bolt EUV is just a small hatchback. Keep in mind that CUV like the Honda h-rv is just a hatchback. CUV, SUV, now EUV are just marketing terms that mean nothing and the manufacturer can apply the terms to whatever they want. Even CR recommends that winter tires are much better than the extra cost of AWD so I don't understand the complaint about that. The new Bolt's are the first EV's arriving that the average Joe can think about affording even without the tax credit. The upcoming larger GM EV's will use the new battery technology and those will have more range. I'd much rather have affordable EV's than a 500 mile range, $50K car that only the rich can afford.

Also if he is the original owner of the car and has had the coil pack issue twice already did he should hope it happens one last time because then it will be covered under the lemon law.
