@CFG393 жыл бұрын
@@eddiegardner8232 Yeah, I have no clue what @San is talking about. There are some similarities with overall suspension design, but obviously a lot is different. I did find it odd that Sandy seemed to criticize the ID.4 for using McPherson struts which Sandy said was “not a BMW quality suspension” [like the Tesla] because it used struts instead of double wishbone. I found the BMW quality part to be funny because the best handling BMWs including the 2-series, 3-series, 4-series as well as the X3, M3/M4, Z4, i3, i4, etc. all use front struts. Only 5-series and up sized BMWs use double wishbones up front. Struts are cheaper to fix and have fewer parts. For a car like an ID.4, struts are perfectly fine. I do think Sandy has a soft spot for the Mach-E because he’s from Detroit, he worked for Ford, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he personally knows people that worked on designing this product. He had a lot of critical things to say about ID.4 even claiming some of the lower control arms on the rear were shaped like they were because mistakes had been made, almost implying they had to retrofit some forgotten component.
@eddiegardner82323 жыл бұрын
I just watched a ride along on the GT version of the MachE. It uses magnetorheological shock absorbers, of the type developed at GM to provide millisecond speed changes in damper rates. I wish Sandy would explain a little more of what he's seeing, not just what it is but the potential why behind it. The fasteners for example - why are they desirable besides being "new"? He geeks out over a McPherson front end in the Ford, but the ID.4 has a McPherson front end too, and Sandy seemed bewildered by it in the ID.4 video. Maybe the VW's innovations are in places Sandy doesn't care about or couldn't see. I wish he'd dug in more on the first global EV from the world's biggest automaker.
