I wish people would quit talking about Tesla losing market share. It's almost entirely a mathematical issue. Since Tesla is currently supply-limited, there's no way to keep their market share. As long as more EVs are being sold in the US by others (the total market is increasing) and Tesla doesn't have more cars to sell, do the math: they are going to lose market share by percentage points.
@rdyer87643 жыл бұрын
@@deeperanddown It's NOT an important metric at this time because losing market share is inevitable while every car they have capacity for is sold even before they make it. My point is that the math says that Tesla can only LOSE market share until they can make substantially more cars, and that's not until Giga-Texas comes online.
@TheEvilmooseofdoom3 жыл бұрын
It is meaningless. The EV segment is such a small chunk of the total market worrying about EV market share is idiocy. There is a TON or market for both to expand into. As more EV's come out Tesla can double it's numbers but still loose 'market share'. What matters is YoY total sales, this market share business is merely to give imbeciles an excuse to quibble.
@rdyer87643 жыл бұрын
@@deeperanddown I am a shareholder. And in this disruptive market, with all the existing constraints, the old rules (and metrics) don't apply in the same way. Yes, you can START to get an impression by using what's always been used, but if that's where you stop, and you don't dig deeper into all the circumstances that define a number like market share in this environment, it's purely a delusion.

Usually it's for good reason, most other legacy designs are lazy compliance attempts. The Mach-E design here, on the other hand, seems to be a good one relative to the rest of the market, with the exception of Korean makers perhaps, for example. And on the software side they seem to be doing better than the other legacies, so that's good to see, and maybe they'll polish it further with OTAs hopefully. It certainly seems better than what we saw with VW in the earlier ID4 teardown. The only thing Ford needs to do is make these in proper quantities so they can drop costs. I'm worried about them planning around VW's MEB platform in Europe, they seem to have a better solution here to build on imho.

Sandy is great. Unfortunately, his understanding and assumptions of market share is incorrect 6:45. The overall EV market is growing, which is taking from ICE vehicles in general, not from Tesla. The EV pie is getting bigger; the ICE pie is getting smaller; Tesla's EV piece is growing, but overall % is shrinking with new entrants. However, Ford's ICE business is shrinking while it's EV business grows; thus, it is also plausible to deduce that Ford's EV market is cannibalizing its own ICE market (let me say this again, not Tesla's). Someone who buys a Mach-E is most likely not seriously considering a technology vehicle like Tesla.

I own a ford in Canada. This piece is still a ford when it comes to mitigating the rust problem.
@otm6463 жыл бұрын
The whole suspension is aluminum, there's almost no steel there besides the trailing arm links. Body corrosion is going to be your only concern, not the undercarriage or suspension rusting away on you. This is similar construction to a 10 year old BMW or Mercedes their only corrosion concern is body rust.

In your recent live question and answer session you said that Tesla has no competitors. From these Mach-E videos, it sounds like maybe they do.

Maybe I you look at engineering and manufacturing in isolation. Software and charging infrastructure isn't close. Not to mention the stealership model.

Sandy The rear suspension has little route and when it rolls in the street it throws the mustang as if it no longer has shock absorbers, I think they should put gas Shock absorbers at high pressure.

Well Ford seems to have made a good ev. Good to see that American automakers are best again. Tesla and Ford for the wins

wait how is tesla American? most factories and suppliers are not from US. Their media man Elon is from RSA. If u look at their suppliers its mostly European and Asian companies.

Would not be suprised if all the Mache E's sold are to dealerships who had to buy and now have them hidden away as they don't wish to sell them. They won't be making any money on servicing them so won't want to sell them. Just like as what happened to VW ID3's, after initial launch they are nowhere now.

The Mach E is not eating Tesla market share it is eating ICE market share. Tesla had huge growth (Q1 sales more than doubled over last year) while Ford EV sales developed. While the EV market grows and more manufactures enter the market Tesla’s % of EV sales will look like it is declining. That is just how the math works. To understand the true picture we should be looking at each companies share of the total US and word markets. That is the end-game, not getting the largest portion of the tiny niche that the EV market is today.

two speed gear box in the rear end, uses Mercon fluid. Same as Porsche... a lot of pro's and cons to having a two speed rear end. Most of the pro's = efficiency. Most of the cons = money.

hold on a second. Their choice of a simpler building material for a suspension component needs to be measured against performance and NVH metrics, not just manufacturing cost. This is not a random bracket supporting a dash panel or accessory. TBH, I'd gladly pay more per part on the suspension side of the car, or in the transmission, provided there was a subjective gain to be had there.

I see that the half shafts are rusting already. Is this going to be an issue long term or is it that due to all that torque, the strongest half shafts will rust? What kind of metal is it anyway? Yes Sandy, we can see the excitement and someone at Ford should be taking constructive feedback from you. Thanks to you and your team.
