This is how I made my 21 Fat Bob VERY comfortable, handle on a dime, faster and smoother. I feel in much more control now and the bike feels effortless. Hopefully this info will help others when faced with the same decisions. (The sound volume when running is MUCH louder than appears on video! )

That's the BEST compliment one could hope for Dave! Thanks so much! I have been without her for a little over a year now since I moved to Thailand. Had to sell her:( I missed riding so much that I bought what the Thai's call a "Big Bike" (Kawasaki 650 Versys). (They ride scooters by the millions) It's a joke compared to the Harley in every way. But.....at least I can ride again :) Thanks again and ride safe brother......Gene :)

Hey Luke and thank you for the comments ! I do admit the seat, bars and exhaust made the Fat Bob a very unique looking bike that made me pull the trigger on it for sure. I kind of hated to change the look that made me love it...but my butt and lower back won the argument. I'm 5'11" and about 225lbs, 30 inch inseam. My reach is not the longest, so it was really uncomfortable on my lower back on anything over about 50 miles. The Factory seat looks great, but is very thin compared to the Mustang. (Very cheap build quality on the Factory as well). With the added backrest....I can burn a tank of gas effortlessly and I am ready for another tank right away. My cornering confidence also improved about 500% with the bars. It's funny.....a guy at the dealership looked at the bike really hard.....then asked me....what is that?! lol I informed him that it was a Fat Bob and he informed me he thought it was a Fat Boy! lol I guess the proper answer is......"it's mine and I love it! " Thank you again Luke for your comments and have a great day brother...Gene.

Hi Gene, Ady from Malaysia here. I hope you are well and enjoying your bike. Love your video; I’m glad KZbin’s algorithm brought it to my feed. I also love what you’ve done with your Fat Bob! I’m planning to buy a bike in the coming year and the 2022 Fat Bob is one of the few I’m considering. My intended use for the bike is for my daily commute and the occasional weekend long-distance rides, and I was concerned that the Fat Bob may not be suited for the latter. Thanks to your video, I see now that we can truly customise our Harleys to suit our purpose and our needs, rather than hoping to find one that ticks most of the boxes. Thanks again for the video, Gene!

You are correct brother, it’s the 💣. You may consider electronic shooting ear buds, they fit under your helmet and suppress harmful noises. Note, loud is the same as long exposure to noise above a certain decibel. OSHA hammered that into our heads in the Navy. You’re bike looks like something I would ride, practical and fast as hell. I could care less what anyone thinks if it causes me health issues. 🦅 of a 🪶 Fat Boy 114

I have a 2018 that needs a stock seat. Oh and it took me some time to get the rear suspension set. The process is explained in detail in the book but I turned it up a couple clicks from there to suit my taste. 66 year old 4 years on mine with almost 60k miles on it. Bike looks nice ! Mine is salt white with a lot of the Dominion bronze pieces added to match the stock exhaust.

Hey Jerry and if you rode 60K on that seat you are a LOT tougher than me brother! lol I am familiar with the look of your bike and it looks kind of elegant to me......very nice! I had to replace my rear shock to get a smooth ride. I bought a Progressive and set it on the lowest setting and now it is a pretty soft ride without being mushy. The Harley shock stinks IMHO. I have the stock seat Jerry and it has been in an air conditioned bedroom since I took it off with maybe 200 miles on it. Hit me up at solid42@bellsouth.net if interested. I just looked and the seat new is over 400 bucks. I will take 200 plus shipping. The stock Dunlops STINK as well. Rough ride and they do not like to corner. I went to Metzler Cruisetecs at 3K and it is a MAJOR improvement. The bike is tons smoother and effortlessly flicks into a corner and stays put. It no longer tries to stand up in a corner. Anyway thanks for the comments Jerry and let me know.

@@MrSolidman48 I got lots of days in horse saddle so I am calloused LOL. We have had much different experiences on the same bike. I won't switch tires as I tried some Pirelli Night Dragons once. They felt hard and slick to me. I never noticed any problems cornering with the OEM tires and maybe the difference is in shock set up and how we ride. Love the fairing on yours I just went with the stock tall wind screen . Didn't have a lot of choices when I bought mine. I am kind of lucky I guess. Took the attitude that the Harley engineers set everything up so the bike would perform and I got used to what they put together. Still I would love to spend some change on things like 131 and performance shocks. The thing with me is the more performance I put into it the more risk of the rubber side getting on top someday. Funny how that works. Put on leathers and you start riding ( I do ) like the race is on and I am protected. I will send you a note soon as I will be sitting on a sponge soon and rainy season is coming to California. Nice bike and thanks for the info!

Thank you Carlos! Look in the description above and use the "Handlebar Fitment Guide". It will tell you what you need. Carlos when I installed my first pair of bars "Moto" I installed it with the 3" risers and used ALL the Factory wiring and cables. You have to remove the fuel tank and pull all the slack out of the bar wiring but it worked for me. Only when I changed to these Fat Reach bars is when I had to install a longer clutch cable, brake hose and wiring extensions. Thank you again and I hope this helps brother :)

As for comfort.....It is the most comfortable set up by far. It is worth every penny that it cost. Good luck on your new purchase. I LOVE the look of the Fat Bob. However, with all the problems I had with my brand new bike....and all the money and time and effort to make it right......I would give the new Sporster a very hard look and test ride. From what I understand the new technology engines are far superior to the old technology. Thanks for the comment....Gene :)

I almost had to put a gun to my head to do the Mustang seat.....but it is worth 10 times more than it costs! I have been dealing with a bad/trick lower back for many years. This seat HONESTLY eliminated any and all strain. I can ride all day and my back is never an issue anymore. I have several inches of bend in my elbows with the bar/riser combo...so the shoulder/back strain is gone 100%. You're 5'11 and needed to raise the bars? I'm 5ft 10 and the stock position has been fantastic for me. My arms would get so tired holding them that high up ( personally). We have the same year , color, and bike. Same seat setup and all. I want to have the highway bars on for foot comfort, but I can't get past how much they detract from the lines of the bike. I wanna say the Bung King ones looked the best ( IMO). Btw, you made the bike look great btw. My critiques are simply that of my own bike, as another 2021 Fat Bob owner myself. Part of what makes these bikes so nice is that you can customize them to however you want it to be, which is solid. Keep up the great work.

Hi Kristen! The main difference there is 7" inches of "pullback" in these bars. The 3 inch risers also add probably another 1.5 inches of pullback. Since the grips are now that much closer to me.....I just lay my hands on the grips without reaching or stretching of any kind. My hands are probably about 5" lower than my shoulders. It would be like sitting at a table....and just resting your arms and hands on the table. There is no "lifting" required. In fact....I would say my hands / arms are "resting" on the bars. This allows ZERO strain anywhere in the upper body. Since I am sitting straight up and leaning back slightly against the back rest.....there is no longer any strain on my lower back. Honestly....I do not think it could be anymore comfortable for ME if I tried! Congrats on your sweet ride! It is pretty amazing for sure! I also had a mental block on the crash bars.....fearing it would wreck the look of the bike. But....I also knew that if dropped.....the damage would at the least be very expensive and probably un-rideable. I decided to protect my investment and let the chips fall where they may. I think these bars compliment the bike....and at the very least do not detract from the looks TOO much. I do feel MUCH better in case it ever hits the ground that is it protected. THANK YOU so much for the great comments and compliments! The MAIN thing is that YOU are comfortable in every position that you could encounter in a "split second". If you have to really reach or fight it....it could be too late. Certainly all mods do not fit everyone.....just make SURE YOURS fits you like a glove :) Thanks again Kristen and ride safe....Gene :)

Thank you so much Azad I really appreciate the great comments! Yes Sir you are correct.....the stock tires, seat and drag bars BLOW! lol The bars and tires really hurt the handling and cornering of the Fat Bob. When I replaced the bars....I could then turn on a dime comfortably. Cornering was 50% easier as well. When I replaced the tires (Metzeler Cruisetecs) the bike now flicks left and right effortlessly as well as dives into a corner and stays there. The bike no longer tries to stay upright like it did in stock form. Now it eats corners with like it is on a mission. It's a real shame the Factory puts on gear that fights you. But modded correctly.....it is a fantastic bike :) Stay safe and God Bless Azad.........Gene :)

Nice setup with the handle bars! Did you have to get new cables to get this done? And what do you think of having just the fat reach handlebars without the risers?
@MrSolidman48
@MrSolidman48 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I did have to get a longer "top half" clutch cable. As well as a longer brake hose. If you look in the description above the "bar fitment guide" tells you what items you need. I think there were 7 different items. I did a test fit without the risers......and it would have worked fairly well for me. However.....the extra 3" rise dialed it in perfectly for me. ZERO strain or lean required. Just sit back and no having to adjust anything. The bars alone are 100,000,000 times better than the drag bars for comfort for sure! Hope this helps and thank you for the comment :)

@@manpreet9003 Hello again CBR! The first time I installed the Harley Moto Bars with the Risers and I really took my time to make sure everything was right. I was definitely in the 12-14 hour range for sure. The second time I replaced the Moto bars with the Fat Reach bars and it probably took me 5-6 hours for the bars.....plus a few more for the brake hose setup + bleeding and the clutch cable. It will not take the dealer that long at all to do the job because they do it all the time and are really good at it. But....if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself.....the only other choice is a good bike shop rather than a dealer. They are normally much cheaper than a Dealer. Thanks for the vid. Did you also get the Screaming Eagle tune as well? And did you stay in warranty with this 50 state compliant exhaust?
@MrSolidman48
@MrSolidman48 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stefen, I did stay in Warranty with the Exhaust. There was a noticeable increase with the stock tune. S&S shows roughly a 10-12 hp and the same torque increase with a stock tune + a higher flow air cleaner. It definitely boosted power + made the engine much smoother. No SE Tune! I just installed a Wood 22XE Cam Kit from Fuel Moto. I had it flashed with a Techno Research Tune. The Tuner did not have a Dyno and basically did not know what he was doing. It runs like crap below 2K......but above 2K it feels like a 50 HP boost! It seriously became a MONSTER! I have an appt. with a serious dyno tuner on Tuesday....and will post a video of that probably Thursday with results. The SE tunes are basically crap. They ALL have to stay in EPA regs.......14-16/1 Air Fuel Ratios. VERY LEAN. I decided to spend my $$ on stuff that will make serious power. Warranty is now gone....but that is ok with me. I cannot wait to post the results.....Thanks Stefen :)

@@StefenWolf17 I love the look of the Lowrider.......congrats on a sweet ride brother! I am so glad that my info helped.....you will be very happy! In all the Dyno charts out there....the best tuners admit that the M8's make the best power with a 2/1 with long primaries and a longer muffler. They also find that ones with Cats make more torque across the board and only sacrifice 1-2 hp at the top of the range. The Super Street is a perfect pipe IMHO. If you notice....the rear cylinder primary tube goes forward and wraps back around the cam chest with the front primary. This keeps the primary tubes of equal length......so the exhaust pulses will be equal when they pass the collector......creating perfect scavenging. Unequal length primary tubes throw off the timing of the exhaust pulses which create unequal scavenging (sucking out the burnt exhaust from cylinder) which creates less power. Let us know how you like it Stefen :)

When I installed their Moto Bar, it took me 2 days taking my time. When I removed and installed the Fat Reach Bar it took about 5-6 hours. The hardest problem that I had was getting the front brakes to bleed and pump up. I gravity bled...no luck. Pumped handle and bled.....no luck. The first bar change I did took me about 10 - 12 hours and I was REALLY taking my time and being very careful. The second bar change took about 3 hours. Maybe another hour or so to add the needed parts. ABSOLUTELY changed the bike for me. One of those changes that give you a whole different bike! @MrSolidman48
@MrSolidman48 2 жыл бұрын
EXCELLENT question! lol Being "uncomfortable" makes you tired and reduces your enjoyment level dramatically. I loved the look stock....and besides the Fat Boy....those 2 were the only bikes that appealed to me. Before I bought with the bike....I thought a set of risers would cure the riding position. Not for my lower back:( Every change that I did was to "fix a problem"....or make it "just right". Basically...a domino effect. If you would have shown me a picture of my bike NOW.......before I bought it.....I would have told you that you were nuts! My back screamed after about 40-50 miles.....my butt was not comfortable after an hour in the saddle. The buffeting at higher speeds takes the fun out of it.....and is very fatiguing. Cornering was kinda stressful because I was uncomfortable and was leaning too far forward. I decided that I spent this much money......dang it.....it is going to "fit like a glove" and whatever it looks like....so be it. I can tell you now that my enjoyment factor has gone up at LEAST 1,000%. The performance, handling, comfort, and SAFETY have been improved drastically. So now....I do not mind "writing the check" every month. Before the mods....I did. I feel it still pops.....is unique....and the fun factor is definitely a now 10. Kinda nice to be different....but it's still FAT! I agree on the Tacky adjustable levers out there. That's why I went with RICKS levers. They are the most expensive and hard to get. I had to order them from the UK. I think they made it here in about 10 days.....and worth every penny! Thanks for the question ...Gene :):)

That would suck for sure! When I started riding in the 70's....there were no fuel gauges on motorcycles....at least none that I am aware of.....or owned. Pull out the flashlight or a stick on the side of the road and dip it!

Hey Matt: I went these Harley Grips: www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/Get-A-Grip-Hand-Grips/p/56100015 I then bought some cheap foam grip sleeves to slide over the grip portion. This makes for a very "cushy" grip that is very comfortable and provides excellent comfort.

@@MrMurphc13 I hate to say this...but nothing surprises me anymore. A lot of things DISGUST me....but sadly little surprises. The world has changed into something that we read and heard rumors about when we were kids. Knowing what I know I know now.....I would never buy another Harley Davidson. I went from hating my bike.....to LOVING my bike. It cost me a TON of money and effort to finally make it comfortable, dependable and trouble free. And this on a BRAND NEW motorcycle:( I miss it a LOT. Harley Davidson has no issues selling motorcycles with known defects and inherent problems. I hear the new designs are good.....but unproven in the long term. I have yet to purchase another bike here in Thailand....but when I do....it will not be a Harley......Gene :)

If memory serves.....after my research.......they were all pretty much the same and made in China (surprise)! So I think it came down to a price war between Amazon and E-bay. I think E-bay was the winner. I can tell you they were surprisingly well made and very strong. I tipped it over one time on my bike trailer and they worked perfectly. No damage to bike or bars. Great investment.....Gene :)

On a motorcycle or while gaming? On a bike, bike maybe tuned too lean, need different exhaust, header wrap or wear long pants. If while gaming, try a fan!
