One thing I learned from Honda is, if they tell you that the engine takes 800ml of oil, It will take 800ml of oil, so you can just pour 800ml and be done with it😊 BUT always check what's the oil quantity required in case you don't need or want to replace the oil filter. You can skip an oil filter change between services as these engines are very well made especially the ESP models.

For the Honda CB125F, the recommended tire pressure is 28 psi front and 29p psi back for the 128kg bike before 2021 and for the newer 2021 117kg model 25 psi front 33 psi back. it's better to use a carboard sheet to protect the rear tire when spraying chain lube, also your chain tension seems a bit too strong after adjustement, there is a play with rear suspension to account for when adjusting chain tension, before adjustement the chain tension seemed reasonably fine, too much chain tension and you wear chain, sprockets, and ball bearings faster, also front tire must be slightly less inflated than rear tire as marked on the sticker on the swingarm
@nicksepisode3 жыл бұрын
thanks for your input

I have had my CB 125 F for over a week and will be getting to the 600 mile service shortly, I feel competent to do the service myself and have all the gear, just wondering how doing your own service affects the warranty if at all? As far as the bike goes, I am very pleased with it, the gear box has been a bit sticky from time to time but seems to be improving, I also have to be careful not to knock the headlight switch on when using the clutch, but other than that, so far so good. Power wise it seems ok even though I am on the heavier side, but then again I am not used to anything bigger and my cars over the years have usually been relatively low capacity. As somebody mentioned below, would be good to see a tutorial about doing the valve clearances! Thanks again for the tutorial very detailed!
@nicksepisode2 жыл бұрын
If the bike is less than 2 years old then doing your own service will void your warranty. I decided to take that risk as I trust the Honda engine won't let me down within the warranty period.
@truthseeker1042 жыл бұрын
@@nicksepisode Thanks for replying, I have also decided to take the risk and completed the first service today, even though the bike is new, reading through the manual and warranty book, it isn't very specific about having a service done by the Honda Dealer but is specific about using approved Honda parts. Anyway, it is running better with the new oil as expected. One of the other things mentioned in the manual about the 600 mile service is the engine idle speed. I installed one of those tachometers that has a lead wound round the spark plug lead and it seems to be idling within the limits of 1500 plus or minus 100.

Great tutorial! I have recently ordered a Honda CB125F, still waiting for it to arrive! There are a few things I was wondering about it if anybody knows. Assuming that the oil filter is a much smaller version of the kind found in a car, how often does it need replacing? Was there much metal in the oil when it was first drained from the new bike and generally how does the bike perform on hills? Thanks
@nicksepisode2 жыл бұрын
the filter is a smaller yes, it needs replacing every year or 3-4k miles I would say. The oil had no metal in at all. bike struggles on hills for a 14st person, fine with my wife on who is a fair bit lighter! we dont have many hills here so cant give great feedback on that. thanks for watching
@truthseeker1042 жыл бұрын
@@nicksepisode Thanks for replying, I guess the filter will remove any particulates from the new engine. I was guessing that your very low fuel consumption was due to your wife being lighter. Thanks for another very useful video. One point; the info on the swing arm (and the handbook) shows tyre pressures of 175 kPa (so just a tad over 25 psi) for the front and 225 kPa at the rear. Given the quite tiny contact area of the tyres I'd stick with the lower pressure at the front. I must admit that I did check the pressures just after I'd bought my bike from a main dealer. They were both significantly higher than 32 psi, cold! Can you have too much of a good thing?
@nicksepisode3 жыл бұрын
Too much pressure isn't very good. If you go between 25 and 32 its absolutely fine and will vary on those ranges depending on preference, rider weight, temperature etc.

Do you know where the OBD connector is located and if a OBD2 scanner can be connected to this model. I have looked under the seat but cannot see the connector there as suggested by other YT videos.

Sonst nettes Video.

Honda also state that the valve lash is also checked at 600 miles/1st service. Have you got a video on how to do this?
@nicksepisode2 жыл бұрын
This has been done but not by me, I don't have access to the adjustment specs so can't make a video on it yet.
@philiproberts69472 жыл бұрын
@@nicksepisode makes you wonder if dealers even do it on 1st service as your normally required to leave a bike over night so the valve clearances can be adjusted on a cold engine like there ment to be! Do they not spec the valve clearance in the owners manual anymore. Shame If they don't as that engine will only be screw and locknut not shim under bucket like most engines now,it would only take 30 mins at home. I used to do my Grom in around 15mins as the cylinder head was hanging out the front of the bike so access was a doddle.

I'm working on finding the correct tolerances so I can make a video, this would be a nice addition to my videos.

If I was to buy a torque wrench what nm range would I need for a motorbike like this?
@nicksepisode8 күн бұрын
You would need a 1/4 drive and a 1/2 drive torque wrench. One will be 5-30nm and 39-150nm

The amount of oil these bikes take is so small. I wish the dipstick was replaced with a viewing window. Biggest gripe with these things is that if used to high speed runs, they can get through that oil pretty quick so you have to keep a close eye on that oil level and so many make the mistake of screwing the oil dip stick in to check the level.
@nicksepisode24 күн бұрын
You are so right, if people are checking every 1k then this should be ok. I see what you are saying though

Ni Nick, looking at the vid 8:06, it sort of appears in the quick flash we get that your distance between the chain centre pins is quite a bit less than 25mm after you tightened. is it ok to be a little on the tighter side? the owners manual seems to indicate a tolerance of 20-30mm, so presumably 25 is just the nominal value and a little either way is acceptable? also when checking the markings on both side 8.50, i measured the gap from what i can only describe as the nut collars straight edge to the edge of the cutout with a steel rule, and made sure both were equal (9.5mm) - would you say this is the way to double check proper alignment rather than just relying on 1/4 turn?, as when i did the adjustment the nut was a little loose and i think i moved it a tad more on one side. many thanks

AFAIK the 2nd service interval is after 4,000 miles, then every 4k after that, but do you think there's any real advantage in servicing the cb125f more regularly, say every 2,500 miles as a lot of 125's seem to generally recommend this? i would assume that anytime you put clean oil and a filter in it's good for the engine, but is it a bit of a waste of time and money to do it more often here?. thanks
@nicksepisode2 жыл бұрын
No harm tbh and it doesn't take much oil, I'd rather do it sooner but 4k would be fine if used a lot within a 12 month period
@akrhylikproductions2 жыл бұрын
Hi nick, quick question regarding the cb125f. Does the clutch fluid lubricate from the brake fluid pot? If not how would I lubricate the clutch? Also my levels are low on brake fluid, the fluid quality is still good, would I just top it off or would I need to drain and refill? Any advice welcomed 🙂 thanks on advanced
@nicksepisode2 жыл бұрын
the clutch is inside the engine oil and is self lubricating, its operated by a cable so it doesn't use the brake fluid, if your brake fluid is low then check your front pads they may be worn, if not top your fluid up with dot 4 - hope this helps
