Just picked up my CB650R two weeks ago. After the first 500 miles I'm still very satisfied with my decision. It is my first ever bike and I was undecided for long time. As a beginner rider I tried out many different brands and I felt very confused deciding how much power do I really need and what's important on a bike for myself. Here is my feedback for everyone interested in buying the CB650R. Hope it helps - Sorry for the long response! Pro: 1. The bike looks super nice and many people appreciate it. I went with the matt gunpowder black metallic version and I love the combination of dark tones with these collored rims, engine and shock absorber. 2. It is as smooth as it can get, which is great for beginners like me. It doesn't really matter which gear you are in, it always stays very calm and controllable. I am not the greatest biker yet and this honestly helps a lot! Also driving slowly is insanely good as the engine almost never dies nor starts shaking. With the rear brake fully applied you will master every turn! 3. It has great sound! It is also kinda loud when revving over 6000 rpm. The registration states 97 db here and people asked me about it already. 4. The price for value is insane. As I have finished my A license last year, Honda gave me a welcome bonus of 10%. I paid 7300 Euros for the bike with all import taxes included. Additionally I have ordered heating grips, sports package and a custom license plate holder. Overall with everything I got it running for exactly 9000 Euros in Germany. Con: 1. I personally think it feels a bit heavy. I have tested many other naked bikes like the '20 MT07, SV650, F900R, Z900 and in comparison I feel that this is a bit more heavy. 2. The license plate holder looks disgusting and makes the bike very long. I told my dealership to remove it and replace it with a custom one right away. Now it is much more appealing! 3. Touring options: It is a naked bike in the end and you will feel a lot of wind riding it! The seat felt comfortable at first, but after a longer trip this weekend, my back started to hurt. 4. Gadgets: I am still a bit sad that there is no app for the bike. I would love to see lean-angles, fuel consumption [...] on my phone. Also, you cannot connect to your display at all. Thus said, it has no electronic throttle control, which means: No blipper! Also, I had to adjust the bowden pull wire after the first rides. The traction controls works pretty well, but otherwise it is just a raw bike in the end ;). I'm a big fan @EnglishBikerDan - keep up and cheers from Germany

I've had mine for a month now, and I concur with everything you say....it's all true, ha ha! I had a 1999 CB1300 for 14 years, with no issues..that's a great tourer. One thing stood out to me with this 650R is the immediate and responsive throttle...and that's probably due to it being fuel-injection, not carbs (just an observation). Superb Honda Engineering is everywhere. Front mudguard is a bit short though, so a radiator guard and mudguard extenders are a good idea. Thanks Dan, I love your reviews.

Appreciate you mentioning US pricing. It seems like all of honda's neo sports cafe bikes in the US are about $1000 more than they should be. The CB300 is around the same price as the 390 duke with way less power and less tech, the GSXS750 undercuts the CB650, and the CB1000 is pricier than an MT 10. Honda seems to think that their little styling exercise gives them the license to price their bikes however they want.

I bought a red one last month and absolutely love it. The new painted front fender is a winner too if you ask me. Lifts the looks and is particularly gorgeous is the metallic red. This is my first big bike post DAS and I find it incredibly stable at all speeds and very easy to maneuver in the garage. Don't let the weight put you off. It carries the weight low and lifts off the side stand easier than the Trident. I also found climbing aboard so much easier as the pillion seat doesn't kick up as high at the rear. A thing of importance if you're not overly tall or flexible 😄

I've got the new 21 model in the States. MSRP is $9200 usd. I managed to get it for 8500 no haggle because I bought from a Honda Powerhouse dealer and they took off the 700 instantly from the manufacturer rebates. No other dealer was advertising it. I'm quite jealous everyone else gets better colors while we only get matte black...I'll just have to wrap the tank and front fender. You also get a usb socket under the seat while we don't. It's the perfect bike for where I live. Rarely use the highway and my city doesn't have any curvy roads so for the street the 650 feels perfect. Definitely prefer the torque from a Ducati monster though. Been trying to find some saddlebags for it but since it's a new design there's no mounts out currently. GIVI have one coming soon that lets you use the st609 bags but I can't find any reviews for those bags. Mounting bracket will be called the te1185.

Thanks for the review EBD. Said before on your CB650R reviews that it’s an aesthetic stunner, no doubt. However......The Big H has missed an open goal with this 2021 update. By far the biggest issue for me (which is a deal breaker) is the torque is just too high up the Rev band so you’re having to cane it too often. No harm in spanking the motor occasionally but you tire of it and lust after a bit of lazy, playful power lower down. Shame really, if it had the MT-07 motor, a guaranteed purchase.

Every time I watch one of these review videos, I really envy how cheap/reasonable motorcycles cost in the rest of the world... I've placed a deposit on the 2021 Honda CB650R in matt black which hopefully I can pick up in June.. in Indonesia where I'm from, it cost Rp 298,400,000 (approximately USD $20,700 or GBP £14,950) ridiculous I know, but we don't have a choice. Unfortunately the government slaps on a 'luxury tax' of 125% on motorcycles which has a CC of 300 and over.. and to make matters worst, most motorcycle manufactures here don't allow 'Test Rides'... so we have to buy one and just hope for the best. Btw, great videos Dan and I'm looking forward to your head to head comparison on the Trident and CB650R. (and I'm hoping you'll like the CB650R more because the Trident isn't available in my country hehe)

Vietnamese here. We used to have the same tax, but its been lifted just a few years ago. We also make the process of getting an A2 license much easier and more approachable to promote the change. The tax remains on cars tho, as our infrastructure is terrible and totally not suited for cars, well people still buy them anyway regardless of the price. Test rides are more common ever since the price decrease. I hope your country will lift the tax eventually in the near future, its gonna take sometime but eventually you will get there!

You hear this high pitch, whistling noise above 30-35mph, very noticeable at 16:00 I just got my CB650R and I got exactly the same noise. It comes from the airflow on the edge of the dash. Put you finger on top of the dash and you will see it stops immediately. A small piece of electric wire tape on the edge and it solves it.
@Logsi273 жыл бұрын
You've got me thinking mine is doing this. I thought it was my helmet and have been doing down the road feeling vents and holes on my helmet trying to stop it...will check to see if it's the dash.

It was indeed the dash! Bit of black electrical tape! Et voila! Sorted! Thanks!

Had mine out on the motorway/highway for the first time today. Have it in the new Pearl grey color. Intense experience, remember to hold on because the wind sure wants to kick you off^^

So wait, is the suspension of the 21 different from the 19? If yes is it really noticeable?
@Englishbikerdan9 ай бұрын
Yes, bigger pistons. It's noticeably better at damping out the nastiness of the Uk roads!

A phone holder is cheap, easy to install and adds functionality (navigation etc) so a usb charging port needs to be nearby, not under the seat. They can be waterproof too, or they come with a little plastic attachment/lid

I just ran a cable from under the seat to the handlebars. Wasn't too difficult really. As far as I remember there is some kind of aux socket near the headlight but it's a royal pain to get at it.
@infinitydreamzz3 жыл бұрын
@@Englishbikerdan fair enough, as long as it's tidy What kind of aux socket?

What RPM it has at 6th gear around 60 mph? Is it annoying for longer journeys in terms of an exhaust loudness compare to some adventure bike or even to other nakeds but with 2 or 3 cylinder engines?

Hi Dan, as always it is great to watch your vidoes of bike reviews, test rides and etc. Eagerly waiting for the CB650R and Trident 660 comparison video. Any chance you will be riding the CB1000R 2021 version? Have a great day and cheers! With regards from Malaysia, Yann an.

Trident no match for cb650r. Not only is this an easier bike, it's quicker when you want fun and sounds glorious. Triumph quality is way better but feels like a small bike whereas this is so much easier whilst being so much capable. Triple r is the triumph to go for which compared really well in capabilities with cb. Also trident bottoms out on every speed breaker!

Is this bike as easy to ride as a Teident 660? I'm taking lessons on a trident, but when I pass my mod2, I want a bike as a "keeper" . I ammiddle aged, and want a quality bike that will last. Thanks.

Yeah definitely. Due to the inline 4 engine, it's smooth and easy to ride.

I wish they would change the number plate holder. I put a tail tidy on my CB650R, was hoping to see an improvement on the newer model.
@Englishbikerdan3 жыл бұрын
It has changed a bit since the last model. The main issue is legislation and practicality. If it was shorter, you'd just end up getting wet with spray but also, the number plate has to be the rear most part of the motorcycle. I think it's a European peice of law. Fun eh!?
