@@markpulling12 to be honest, the 50-70hp is the power range of bikes I'm looking at. Many great bikes at that range, but I've never quite realised how useful indeed that sort of power is. Not one pony left behind. It's more than enough for most I dare say. Although I have seen this guy (GeoAlex) literally travel the world on the older model, I still have my reservations about the X on the label. Great machine no doubt.

Nice review, Mark, and on one of my favourite rides past Cheriton over the hill past Cheesefoot Head towards Winchester. But I couldn't help notice the "temporary" 40 mph speed limit. Usually a precursor to a permanent limit. That will take the fun out of a really nice ride!

Nice review Mark. I have the 2017 manual version, which I used on weekly commutes to London from the Northeast. Can’t fault it, other than the forward slope on the seat which can get painful. However there is a mod you can do to help. I like that they’ve put a lower seat on the latest models. Cruise control would be good. Price and reliability are great and maintenance is a doddle on these.

Good useful review thanks. When they came out they replaced the Honda Deauville NT700 - a mid range shaft drive that I was sorry to see go. The main selling point of the NC700 was it’s fuel economy. They said it had half a Honda Jazz (aka Fit) car engine, which is a “bullet proof” car. The Jazz also has “magic seats” (versatile carriage) and has a reputation as a being car for elders. However the truth is the Jazz is light, nippy and incredibly practical. It looks as if this NC750 has evolved in the same way and you showed that to it’s best advantage. Definitely a good option as a mid-range bike…

I was in Charles Hurst Honda today hoping to see a blue DCT but alas no luck. They had black manual though so had a sit on that. Hopefully get one in August. They did have a demonstrator Rebel 1100 DCT though and was tempted to take a test ride. Unfortunately they were very busy so will have to get back down. One thing, I'm 5'7 with 30" inseam and found when trying to put both feet down was on my toes abit still despite the drop in seat height, perfectly fine with one foot down though. Lovely style of bike, already picking out what accessories I want. 😁

@@kevinturner6888 Love the bike Kevin and put on several options. Givi Sport Touring wind screen is perfect, and makes highway riding a pleasure. I’m 5’ 9” and I look over the screen. Taller and wider than the Honda large screen. Center Stand for me is a must for chain maintenance and cleaning. Givi rear hugger to prevent crud from flinging over the rear shock. Radiator guard. Ride around town in Rain mode and configured the User mode for full power, minimal engine breaking and max traction. Give 40 liter rear trunk. For what it is designed to do I think it nails it.

Nice review Mark. I bought the manual version of the NC750x 3 weeks ago. It has a slipper clutch with a very light action and a good positive gear selection with no issues finding neutral. Taking it easy prior to the first 600 mile service and can confirm 90mpg is easily possible. Niggles are mainly where Honda have cost cut - you have to pay extra for the centre stand, there is nothing protecting the bare radiator fins and the rear shock is very exposed to crud from the rear wheel - all easily and fairly cheaply rectified. These are ride by wire now (the previous model wasn't). Also not sure if this is peculiar to the manual version but mine came with Metzler Tourance Next tyres not the Dunlops you had. It's a great everyday bike and in sports mode, more fun than you might think given the relatively low power output.

I have just watched this a second time. It's the detail in your reviews. Next year I plan to sell my KTM Duke 390. Good bike, but I spend all my time changing gear. And the low-down jerkiness is irritating. Being practical, this bike has it all. It's quick enough, has a really useful storage compartment, DCT. It is also 100 per cent reliable. There's a Canadian bloke in Thailand has done 229,000 kilometres on his, and it has only needed a water pump and has never broken down, and he uses it off-road all round Southeast Asia. There is a Honda Big Wing dealer in Chiang Rai which is where I am most of the year. It also looks better than the X-ADV now they've updated the NC's looks. Just the swingarm, non-adjustable screen and skinny bars could do with updating as I said before. For the record, the NC DCT retails at 364,000 baht or around 8,350 GBP

Great review of a versatile and economical bike. In these days of global warming I believe more emphasis should be put on the 'green' credentials of a motorcycle and this Honda has that box ticked - impressive mpg and built to last! I would love to try the 750x with the DCT gear box on a long run, as being a low revving automatic, it must help reduce fatigue on the rider. Still enjoy riding my CB500x though. Cheers.

Looking for my next bike, having sold my 2 last year. I have tested RE interceptor, Guzzi V7, Tracer 7 and last thursday tested manual one of these. My perception was 58bhp not a chance. Dealer said try it for a hour, i was out for 90 mins. Absolutely smitten. Max torque 4750rpm. Rev it to that and it kicks its heels plenty enough for uk roads and despatching easy overtakes. Handles beautifully, comfy and very smooth for a twin. I am 6’1 and screen was fine for me but i do like a bit of fresh air on my bike. I left in in sport mode for 10 miles and revved it out and it showed 74 mpg. I was so smitten and schoolboy excited I put a deposit on one today. I think its a do it all bike and is fast enough for the road up to 80-90mph. Then the response is slow but up to the 80 -90mark felt as quick as the tracer. I even think its response is better then my vfr800 fi as i ts just instant go probably due to the torque. Just my pennyworth. Am 63 now and this will be my 42 nd motorcycle in my life and the only new one I have ever had😂
@markpulling122 жыл бұрын
Fantastic 😊.. a lot of people dismiss this bike because of its 58 HP but that's what makes it so good because it's developed so low down the revs it's almost the perfect engine for UK roads .. I will get one one day but just got a tracer 9 gt Cheers mark

I've had the first gen NC 750s for a year now. It's not perfect but all in all it's a great bike. My only significant complaint is that I think in standard drive mode the revs are too low. So low that it really feels like it's labouring sometimes. So I always ride it in sport mode. It rides much better, but it does hang on to the revs for too long. If you give it some power the revs stay high for a frustratingly long time after you let the gas off. But I still like the dct gearbox, and I'll seriously consider the NT1100 dct when it comes out.

Hiya, Nick... I think you are already ok with your girl's choices. I have always bought premium affordable Vehicles by good manufacturers. Mazda cars, Honda bikes... No trouble with either and good trade in when needed. She really needs to get to sit on one and preferably a test drive or three... My girl is really disappointed with the Pillion seat on my NC, yet my kids say it is fine. Really personal to each rider. I really like the NC riding position, very similar to my last fave the Honda 650 Nighthawk. Sit up and beg style...You pay a price at very high speeds, but my cafe racing days are well in the past. I road a 2015 a few days ago. It had NONE of the qualities that you speak of here Mark. I am NOT doubting you. You give wonderful reviews. Its just that there is NO WAY I could be happy if the 2022 performed the same. I am scheduled to ride a 2022 in a day or so. Lets hope it is 100% ++ improved. I was so bummed out after that ride. The bike only had about 7,000 miles. It also looked like it was never maintained. BUT good gosh almighty... it rode like crap! Maybe the cylinders were out of balance. It was horrible. I will follow up here after riding the 2022. I know that there are MANY MANY improvements .... I hope so. I am ready to hang up my racing leathers and outrunning LEO. Time to slow down and smell the roses!

The old model had some weaknesses, but it had a Honda engine. I doubt Honda has ever made an engine that's not excellent, and the idea of a Honda engine that rides like crap has never crossed my mind. Does such thing exist? Which one?
@davidfalgout730411 ай бұрын
@@2Gales I do not like the ride of any of the NC bikes. They have but an inch or two of usable suspension travel once underway. The roads around here are crap. Many times a bump would jar be so much as to make me sound off !! Also, around here, should the DCT have ANY problems, it would take months to get my bike back. So I went with what is tried and true. a 2023 Suzuki DR650. It smooths out all bumps, opens possibility of more than just tarmac, and I can fix it ... do not need an idiot, dumb stealer-ship! It is a very VERY fun bike to ride. Customizable to the moon and back! GOOD LUCK !!

Possibly the best kept secret in motorcycling and, if I'm honest, the best bike I've ever owned (and I've owned an awful lot). First thing I noticed in your vid and first thing I noticed when I test rode the new X (I already on an S) is the footpegs. The seat is now lower on the X which for me, as someone about the same height as you is a good thing. But legs straight down and the footpegs are in the way causing you to spread your legs further and thus reduce the advantage of the lower seat, For whatever reason, the S does not suffer this issue. Personally I preferred the manual version as I like to be able to slip a clutch for control, especially in tight turns and pulling away. It's also quite considerably cheaper and a fair bit lighter. Given more time, maybe I could be converted but, for the moment, I'd stick to manual. The thing is so damned easy to ride I'm not sure I need it any easier. As for the weight, it's not a particularly light bike to be fair, but it does carry it very low down unlike those top heavy adventure bikes. What I can say, that you may not be able to mention, is that this bike will easily and almost effortlessly do a ton and sit there all day if you want. I would however agree with you about the screen. At anything over about 60mph it gets a bit noisy and buffeting becomes an issue. A taller and perhaps wider screen I would consider a must unless you were only commuting around town. Then there's the economy. I really don't know how they get 250cc economy from a bike that has so much torque and power (maybe not on paper but ride one around for a day and you will soon learn to appreciate it as the power is where you want and need it rather than at astronomically high revs like some). Some people complain about the lack of technology but, if you really want that, then go try the scooter version and pay the extra for it. This bike does exactly what it needs to without (IMHO) the unnecessary frills. Finally a thank you for not making the same mistake so many reviewers make about this bike when they call it a "beginner" bike. Sure it's easy for a beginner to ride but that epithet completely undersells what is a great all round bike. Just in case anyone is in doubt. I love this bike.

@@markpulling12 Actually. Whilst I'm here and TBH not much to do with this review so please everyone else ignore it. Next time you're out at North Farm doing a bike review, of an adventure bike perhaps. Don't know if you know but there's a fairly gentle green lane close by. To get there... As you come down the hill, past the Drusillas Inn and just before you get to Horton Village. There's a little right hand turning for "Woodlands". Carry on up there about half a mile and keep your eyes out for the stones marking the entrance for "Remedy Oak" (on your right). Almost immediately past there but on your left you should see a sign "Byway Open to All Traffic". (There's also a Bridleway immediately opposite). That's the start of the green lane and it goes on through the woods to Kings Lane where you come out next to a chicken farm. Turn left along Kings Lane (Skinny little road) and it will bring you out on the Wimborne to Cranborne road (between the Horton Inn and Cranborne. Quite an easy lane, I've done it on a 1930's BSA with hand change so can't be that difficult. Could be a bit muddy if it's been raining though. Anyway. Might be worth a look next time you're out that way.

Thanks Mark a great informative video as usual, this is a bike that i am considering purchasing for my return to biking after a 30 odd year break, do you think it is a wise choice?, i would value your thoughts on its suitability. i only have one small criticism on all the vids i have watched and that is everybody shows the lights,indicators etc but nobody ever demonstrates the horn and how good or not so good it is. It would be nice if you could rectify this small omission in your future videos, once again great vid and keep up the good work.

These are fabulous bikes, and would be even better with cruise control and shaft drive. I owned a 2015 DCT model and the DCT is a revelation. Not sure why you kept it in 'sport mode' almost all the time as there is little point other than the rare occasions you need it to blast away from the lights. In 'D' (normal) mode I regularly achieved 100mpg on my 110 mile commute to work and back (55 miles each way). Dirt cheap to insure, easy to maintain the chain, and the frunk is incredibly useful. I owned a few bikes at the same time but the NC750 quickly became my 'go to' ride. The ultimate, if boring, commuter, but not as boring as you might expect. It will still leave most cars in its wake from the lights, and its high-ish seat height means filtering is a doddle. Puig make a great after market screen and plenty of gel seats around if the original doesn't suit your butt. I only got rid when my commute ended but am seriously considering another NC750 as it is such a friendly bike to have in the garage.....

I left it in sport not for power but because of its throttle response ...the other modes are a bit "elastic " throttle response All the best mark

Am thinking of getting one myself. The more I read the more I like it. For this size bike, I'd think a belt drive (vs shaft) would be better. Having owned both on my BMW's, a belt should be even lower maintenance, a little less weight and cheaper to mfg.

Mark, It sounds like Honda may have improved their seat quality. For years and years they chimped out on their seats... buy a Honda, and first order of business, replace the seat. But it really takes a couple of hours to test the equality of the foam being used in the seat. Great review, and I agree that cruise control should have been included. Every DCT should have cruise control. They complement reach other. Gordon

@gorrdd3 жыл бұрын
@@timjohnson1199 Yes, it seems to take a couple of hours. Honda traditionally had used a very poor grade foam for their seats. Sounds like they went to a much firmer and less forgiving foam on your NC700X. Perhaps they have improved this on the NC750X. Let me know what you find out. The best foam is the closed cell with memory to it. The more use it, the more it conforms to your shape. Those are the most comfortable ones. Gordon

Thank you indeed for an intriguing review. I do have two questions given my unfamiliarity with the DCT: 1) Does the “automatic” function similarly to a car’s tranny in that while cruising along a highway and then punching the accelerator to pass someone, the thing automatically drops down a gear to increase acceleration? 2) Although I know that is not intended for dual sport purposes, I also know that some owners do use it for some light duty off-road (with appropriate tires of course). So picturing myself at a dead stop and pointed uphill on some rocky road, might I expect that the transmission would have enough clout to bully my way forward from that dead stop, or am I going to be wishing for a standard clutched trans so that I can build up the revs before popping the clutch? Thanks again…
@markpulling122 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob yes indeed when you open the throttle it does drop down a gear or two ,the other day I was in 6 th and fully opened. it and it went down to 4 th and yes plenty of power for light off road trails and pulling away from a stop with the correct semi off road tyres fitted cheers mark

I got the manual, as I don't really do to the miles commuting to justify the DCT. Personally, I do enjoy changing gear the old way, all part of the fun of riding for me, and the gearbox and clutch on this bike are so good anyway. Did worry that I might be changing gear all the time, especially with the shorter gears in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but in reality it is not an issue and for most non highway riding you can stick to 3rd and 4th. Overall a really good relaxed bike, but one that has quite a lot of go when you want a bit more fun. Only niggle, as mentioned in Mark's review, the screen could do with being a little bigger.
