Thank you for the kind of review I need. I’ve heard this bike called ‘boring’ which immediately attracted me to it. I am 73 now and miss my old ‘sensible’ motorcycles. Lower C.G, lower rpm at speed, smooth and comfortable. I’d like to get one. The young reviewers talking about disappointing rpm on a bike finally made me realise I was listening to the wrong crowd. Your lovely video tour made me feel I was already on my first ride with my new motorcycle, so I guess I’d better go buy one and go to your lovely England across the ocean. In my much younger years I crossed Canada and back and later crossed the USA and back on a brand new 1980 Suzuki GS850G, so If I can get one of these NC750X machines I intend to go from my current Ottawa home to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. My wife who says, “You know you are never going to do that”, loves to putter in her garden so I’d better also plan to send her a nice postcard when I get there. Also, I wish every motorcycle reviewer would give his height, inseam and weight, you are my first, so thank you for that.

I have a choice of my NC750X or my ZZR1400 when I open the garage door. The ZZR is now ridden so infrequently I am giving serious consideration to selling it. The thing I like most about the NC is that it doesn't feel enjoyable above 85mph which means I am never tempted to go at silly speeds. The ZZR feels in its comfort zone even at 140mph (apparently lol). So I invariably choose the NC and it never disappoints. I enjoy the more relaxed ride it encourages, it has a better riding position, is just so easy to move around, is far bettr when I ride around The New Forest, and I regularly get over 100mpg. My best has been 108.4mpg. After 43 years of bike ownership the NC is by a mile the most usable machine I have ever owned.

I don't really know why these bikes have been labelled, by many, as a 'commuter bike'. Clearly, they are very good at that but, like you said, Mark, they are a great all round bike. Great for touring as they are so relaxing to ride. I've, also, heard several owners say that they can keep up with the faster bikes when they're with their friend on a 'spirited' group ride, because they handle themselves very well, and you can't go at a 100+ speeds anywhere, really, unless you're on a track. With Michelin Road 5s on they handle very well ( from my own experience ). All that, and 80+MPG. With petrol prices so high ( can't see them ever coming down to what they were before the current crisis ) they're making even more sense. And, if you don't like the DCT, you can, always, get a manual, like I did. What's not to like!! Nice review, as always, Mark.

Gas tank to small, even there CB 500 X has a 17 liter tank, Put a bigger gas tank and I will be looking in to getting one the other thing for touring if you are have something on the rear seat you have to remove it every time you get gas. But if they would put more range per tank, that could be over looked. With the great MPG this bike gets put a 18 or 20 liter gas tank on and would be a dream come true. Do not know why Honda dose this increase the mpg then put a smaller gas tank on, did the same with the gold wing, a couple of years ago. Hear in Canada we have long distances between towns and gas stations and do not want to have to carry extra gas, They are saying 200 Mile range that is only 320 km, my KTM 390 Adventure gets over 420 Km per tank of gas. To me a good touring bike should get 400 Km before the light comes on and 500 KM would be great. Want to hit the back roads and not worry about having to find a gas station.
@richardwestmoreland47962 жыл бұрын
@@hiltonmcconnell2563 Well said. I couldn't have said it better myself. I too live in Canada and like to travel to some more remote areas where service stations are sometimes few and far between. Carrying a jerry can would take away from carrying other things that I might prefer to have along with me but the bike might be getting heavier and sacrificing some handling if I were to also have to carry a gas can. A modification of where the feeling point is would definitely remove the hassle of having to move gear every time one refuels.

I just stumbled across your excellent review about the NC750x DCT. I see several mentions of a want for cruise control. I added cruise control to mine 1 year and 8k miles ago and it is fabulous to have. Expensive at $900 USD but worth every penny. McCruise of Aussieland has it for the both the older mechanical throttle and the newer electronic throttle. A newer company named Veritas I think offers an electronic throttle version in the USA.

Very comprehensive review Mark - especially the demonstration of the various modes and how they affect the dynamics of the ride 👍. I've had two NC750's - a 2014 manual and a 2016 dct. Both were the now discontinued "S" models. With a 29" inseam I found the "X" a bit too tall. Honda have done the right thing here by reducing the seat height by 30mm which is more appropriate for it's intended use. They keep getting better and better. I found the dct ideal when carrying a pillion too. And the reduced workload, especially in town enables you to concentrate on the increased number of hazards in that environment.

Hi Mark, am 63 and just bought one of these. Allthe bike anyone needs imo. I only ever use sport, if i am doing windy bends i use the paddles as a manual. I have done 2000 miles on mine and 83 mpg thats in sport and i like to thrash it because at 58bhp its an enjoyable power. Ihave cruised mine at 90mph no problem what so ever. At normal road speeds its simply effortless and the fuel consumption astonishing. If you want a thrill use the paddles or just pin it in sport. My previous vfr800fi was 1s quicker to 60. The great plus isit is so comfortable and i am 6’1’. Quite seriously think best bike ive ever had. I have changed all mynpower ranger clothes and now bought safe casual clothes which makes it so much more pleasant to ride. I am disgusted no centre stand £146, hugger £115, front fender extender. I really do think a belt or shaft drive would make this an unbeatable package. Test rode so many bike’s before i bought it, a dct too. Am thoroughly delighted shame gotta kneel at my age the clean and adjust chain. Other maintenance though like valves and brakes easily accessible, air filter unbelievably fiddly and 30 min job

Mark, this is the 3rd product I've now bought because of your recommendation. Only rode my new NC750x for an hour so far and it's seems a brilliant bike with 2 negatives which you have spoken about in this video. The screen is pretty good until you get over 60mph and then it's awful and in standard mode, it selects a gear to early. It chugs @ 45 mph in 6th gear which is annoying and you drop it a gear for it just to fire it straight back to 6th. So new taller screen has been ordered and I'll use all the other modes and probably use standard just for motorway work.

Great to see a review that concentrates on the bikes attributes. So many of the reviews on this bike seem to deviate comparing its power relative to a sports bike or the fact that it's not a proper adventure tourer. It's a compromise pure and simple but what it does do, it seems to do very well. For someone of advancing age I am desparate to keep biking but have come to the conclusion that the love of my life (my VFR) is no longer viable for me. I've looked at cruisers and scooters and tbh until recently not really given the NC much of a look but it certainly seems to tick all of my boxes.

Great review as ever :- You seem impressed with it as a Touring bike, as am I from your review --- I think I'd prefer this to the BMW GS range of bikes which seem very tall and top heavy to me - never rode either though. This appeals to me with its great mpg, a super handy and secure Frunk (!), easy peasy low seat height ,low centre of gravity and automatic gearbox - - -I've done big trips, when you get tired and emotional at the end you don't give a monkeys about power , it's all about comfort. ... ...Certainly with cars a lot of people never return to manual from automatic, even for sports cars.

I bought a NC750 DCT brand new. After 18 months it started sticking in gear, took Honda ages to sort. Honda are not the bench mark in reliability! I do miss the DCT box but it freaked me out how Honda struggled to fix it. Turned out to be the shifter motor but it was in and out of the dealers for months.

Great review as usual NC750X is basically a rock solid bike that should just keep on going with regular service. I had an nc but sold that in exchange for a Forza300 ( forza has belt drive, no dirty chains etc) Would love to see a belt drive or shaft drive as an option for the NC …

I find Honda is often behind the curve as regards specs and features. It took them years to finally add cruise control and TFT dash to their Africa Twin when rivals BMW, KTM and Triumph have been using them for years. Honda might have in years gone by been innovative but imho not any more. The biggest omission by them at the moment is NOT fitting illuminated switch gear. They might decide to spec all their bikes with it eventually but I don't see it within my life time where as Triumph and KTM bikes all now have illuminated switch gear which is a game changer riding at night with a rash of buttons you are struggling to see in the darkness. This NC750X has more buttons than a teenager with acne and they aren't illuminated as far as I can see. ALL bikes should have to have illuminated switchgear.

I bought one of the previous versions and it is easily the best bike I have ever owned. The only thing I would want to change on it would be to have the DCT 'box! It was annoying to have to buy a centre stand and a decent seat though and Honda really should start putting the horn button in the proper place 😡 I don't know why they felt the need to lower the first 3 gears on the new version as I thought my bike could do with these being higher. No doubt this new version is even better than the old version. I intend to keep mine (although there is that new Enfield Classic 350......😍)
@motorhead162 жыл бұрын
The horn button is in the right place. I am glad that Honda did choose this solution till 2020. I don't want to stretch my thumb down to reach the signal switch, as i use it much more often than the horn. I think in the 2021 model is in the position you would like it to be, so Honda listens to customers. Cheers!
@oakwolf5161 Жыл бұрын
@@motorhead16 the new one is still having the horn above the turn signals. Glad i am not the only one noticing the thumb stretch factor. With leather gloves i really appreciate not having to fight them to reach the switch.

I have owned my NC750X for 6 years and it has been reliable, very economical and is equally great for touring or shopping. The downsides are the poor headlight, high seat and poor front suspension. The early LED headlight was too faint on dark road surfaces and very difficult to upgrade and high seat left me with just toes touching the ground. I am 5'10" tall. I lowered the rear suspension by 25mm and the front by 15mm. I then found that I could get on / off more easily and safely but could not lift the bike onto its centre stand. The high seat and weight of the bike caught me out when I put my foot down into a pot hole and the bike went over. I was unable to lift the bike upright without help. The front forks pound my wrists on any bumpy road surface that my Norton 961 just glides across.

According to record I surmise that you would keep it in sport mode continuously thus eliminating the short shift in town. Hand brake, neutral switch, DCT and traction control are all over this old head but what an impressive all-rounder. Excellent video 👍👏✌️

Very nice review, especially with the night drive. 👍🏼 But you should turn down the instrument illumination or cover the instruments for the moment, otherwise your camera will take the exposure value from the instruments and you won't really see how bright the headlights are. I just ordered my 2022 NC750X dct today and the bike cost $12,190 that includes TT&L and all the fees, destanation charges and make ready. They had it listed at $9,200 before all the fees. There are no used NC750X dct anywhere near 400 miles from me, heck it's almost impossible to find one with the dct. They are absolutely built with unattainium...I got lucky, the dealer said the information on the one I got has fallen through the cracks somewhere. They didn't know they ordered it. When I called them to see if they had a NC750X DCT he said no but I have a manual clutch one, I said no and our conversion ended with an okay thanks for your time. He called me back 10 minutes later and said he contacted his distributor to see if any orders were placed for an NC750X dct and he said yes but they don't have any coustemer order info on it and that if I wanted it I could put a deposit on it and lock it down, it's not the black color I first wanted, it is red, it has grown on me. It looks pretty good. I think it looks better when the black one now, it has a nice contrast in color. I hope it gets delivered soon, the dealer said Honda has been very inconsistent with deliveries, it could be delivered in 10 days from now or up to 60 days. That's just the world we live in now, there is a shortage of pretty much everything. All in all I feel lucky to have one coming. Your videos are awesome and very informative, It was interesting to hear your thoughts. Thank you. You earned a subscriber.

Mark, really excellent review, you are my go to place for good clear info…..I am sold on this machine….I am returning after a very very long time of not riding, of course I will do some re training , I had thought about the CB500X, but having weak wrists due to my nasty bike crash back in 1981, drunk driver drove across me, I think the Auto version really would be the bike for me….I live on Jersey, small roads, low speeds but lots of cars….so now to look at what modern gear I will require, suggestions welcome..again huge thanks for your reviews…

Thanks for a very thorough review. I’m currently riding a BMW F700GS and I’d like to switch to the NC750x for the DCT option, saving my left hand from going numb from pulling a very stiff clutch lever.
