Found your channel while i was in quarantine for the past 10 days and binged almost all of your content in 5 days. Especially the tour in the Himalayas, which i watched 3 times, picked me up. The result is: After a couple of days thinking and sleeping over it, i've decided that i should do more with my life. This didn't came over night of course, i thought a lot about it in the past years, but i never had something like a plan. Rather vague ideas. Now i have a real plan i already started to work on it: - Buying a 701 or a 690 - Customize it for long range ADV riding - Taking sevral guided offroad trainigs and do smaller tours - Learning as much as i can about this topic - selling my company and my house - Going to a journey around the world in 2023 with open end (if the covid situation has settled down) And when I come to Australia one day, which has been on my list for a long time, I will invite you and thank you personally. Because you gave the final impuls and i've learned so much in the past week because of your content. So, thank you. Honestly.

Love this series Dave and the follow up. You have the most informative and comprehensive reviews I've found online. I had a deposit on a T7 which never arrived so I moved onto a 701LR which also never made it to the dealer here in the US. Landed on a used 701 Enduro and couldn't be happier with it, especially coming from a bloated GSA. It's refreshing to have lost nearly 300 lbs. Also, the Rade aux fuel tank is a great addition to the standard 701 as it maintains the narrowness of the bike and keeps the tank protected between the frame rails. Depending on conditions I can get about 250+ miles of range. The setup replaces the stock air filter housing which adds some intake noise (only on full throttle) but it makes getting to the valves and sparkplugs a lot easier and has a reusable, foam air filter as part of the kit. Also, I've knocked the sidestand magnet out of place a few times but once realigned, no issues. I carry the dongle as a backup. Thanks again and looking forward to what you have coming...cheers from the US!

701 is a treasure! Bash plate to go with the beast, is a plastic one, like the one from a AXP racing. There are options from the other manufacturers. But all in all, it is quiet, slides nicely through stuff, and does not bend.

Before it got damaged, I relocated the T7 side stand switch up out of harms way behind the fairing to serve as a manual set anti theft immobilizer. Rather than bypassing or just deleting it altogether. You’re right, they’re just an invitation to trouble on the trail for sure.

I’ve really enjoyed the whole series. Thanks. I just got 2021 model 690. Very similar to your 701. AXP and Vanasche both do thick plastic bash plates. No noise and very tough. They cover linkage and brake cylinder. A mate had same kick stand issue as you on a recent ride and we found a foil pie container and put that between stand and switch. That fixed it. So now I carry a pie foil in my tool bag. I also really like map mode 2, seems to be the perfect set up for off road. Cheers

Dave thank you for taking the time to do this follow up. I loved the series particularly seeing you ride through the Kimberley. My home state but never been up there. The 701 LR looks like a winner for those wanting a light weight and capable travel bike, without the additional risk of fatigue setting in too early. I currently own the new KTM890 Adv R so am interested in your take on that bike. I cant say I'm happy with the additional weight over the 790r but it does a great job just the same. The lighter 701 LR with some mods certainly ticks a lot of boxes.

I’m converting my 701 and fuel range is a challenge. The factory LR tank should be available soon but it’s very expensive. Rade Garage has a tank that replaces the air box but I’ve heard mixed reports on it. Also I’d love to find tubeless wheels as pac heavy duty tubes is cumbersome.

I got a 2020 701. Not the LR. Thinking about improving the range by adding the LR-Tanks. I think there is an oem-option for installment. I also been thinking about a rally tower or at least a bikini-fairung like you did. What i did early on was lowering the gearing. Original ist 15:46 and i am currently running 14:50 which makes the bike super easy to wheelie and still go 160 km/h. I will change it to 15:50 to spare afew revs though. Bark busters and a solid bashplate are a must. So is a replacement clutch save cylinder. Greetings form austria!

Does the Rade garage 5 L tank fit to the 701? Excellent summary, one minor question re filming. Why bother with the filming from a side angle? I am seeing it more and more and to me, it just doesn’t add anything to the production. There is nothing wrong with front on filming as I like to see a presenter looking at me, the viewer.

Not sure of Rade and fitment of 701, but I would assume so. Shot variation for your other disappointment. :)

Do you still have your KTM 690 Rally Raid set up. If so what ks on the clock? It would be good to hear a review about the bike since you have had it so long.

It's up around 50,000 ks. Still going strong and I still ride it regularly. Yeah it's a real tribute to Rally Raid Products. All the gear on the bike hasn't failed. It's just been brilliant and continues to work solidly. It's still my favourite bike for adventure, because everything works.

Now that you have both a 690 and the 701 and have ridden them long range on and off road, what can you say about their differences and strengths of one over the other. I’ve had two 2016 690’s and put over 10,000 miles on each without issue on either. I just don’t think there’s enough of a difference between them to change to a 701. That said, I am seriously considering getting a T7 to continue my RTW when Covid restrictions are done. I’m just not intrigued enough with a 790 or 890 to go with one of them.

There are significant improvements between the 690 and 701. That said, my 690 is a highly capable bike and built for purpose.

Posh dongles aside, is there any reason you can't just cut and join the two wires going to the sidestand switch like you would with any other bike? If you join the wires via bullet connectors you could leave the switch in place, also with connectors, then if you want to reconnect the sidestand switch it's just a case of plugging it back in

Hey Dave. What was the fuel range on your stock fuel tanks
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV 3 жыл бұрын
It varied quite a lot depending on heavy I was on the throttle and the type of fuel. My record was 400 ks that included an 8 litre fuel bladder. I rode at 80 ks all the way. Boring as bat shit. If I hammered it on Opal fuel, say 130 to 140 plus, low 300s plus the 8litres. Yes you heard correct, HUGE difference.

Yes Rob this is a round the world bike with sight modification and like all bikes riders knowing the solutions to common faults. I still have the T7. I haven't ridden it in months due to lock down and I can't get to it. I'm very fortunate to have both the T7 and the 701. Two outstanding mid size bikes for different reasons.

Tusk and P3 Carbon make bash plate foam (Black Porous open cell foam) specifically to go between plate & engine to keep mud out and dampen noise.
