Thanks for your review. Didn’t Hyundai have the same dual clutch issues in the previous model Kona? Would have thought if they were going to sort it out they would have done for this revised 2021 model.. How does it compare to your last review, the kamiq?

Thanks for watching!! I know calibration issues can plague DCT gearboxes in general and insiders tell me Hyundai is already working on a fix for this one. So fingers crossed! I agree, you would have thought they would have sorted it in development. As far as the Kona vs Kamiq argument, They are very similar. In Monte Carlo form the Kamiq is a direct competitor to the N-Line (minus the AWD and nearly $10,000). For me personally, I can't justify a premium for the Kona when cars like the Kamiq exist. They do drive very similarly actually. The DSG in the Skoda is better. The N-Line is arguably better in the grip department, but the Kamiq felt an equal player dynamically. It boils down to feel and budget in reality. My personal preference would be the Kamiq, it's a better-rounded package and a chunk cheaper. If you want apples to apples by price and mainstream marques... the T-Roc becomes a player. Sorry Hyundai, the T-Roc is just better. -LT

Our family has the old 1.6 4wd kona and the new N line. The 1st to 2nd gear thud is defs harsher in the new N line.

it may feel rough with the 2021, but i test drove a 2022 and it is way smoother then my 2019 kona essiential. so they must have worked on the dct between 2021 and 2022

i dont understand why they would switch from a 6 speed auto to a cvt. doesnt matter if its a good cvt, i need those gears and shifts.

Hi there, and thanks for watching! I always recommend test driving your short list of cars to see what works best for you. I personally would prefer the Puma over the Kona N Line as the Puma is cheaper and the gearbox is much smoother, though the Kona is the better performer. For a practical daily, the Kona Highlander is a great car, it’s smooth and easy to live with. The Kona is also more spacious than the Puma and is technically one class above the Puma in size. I find the transmission in the n-line Kona horrible and it's amazing in the sedan n-line
