Also, you got lucky just using the ratchet to take off the filter- that is for draining the filter before removal - you actually may need a special filter tool to remove the filter housing.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Toyota’s and Lexus, and some other brands need a filter cap to remove the filter housing. That bolt is for draining like you said.

I love the trial and error im surprised your filter housing came off in that manner was shaking my head up until it actually worked lol

You have no idea how lucky it is get the oil filter off like that, I swear the last person putting on the oil filter on my car is probably Satan himself. Broke my tools and scraped my fingers trying to pry it off.

The plastic part is used for draining the oil filter cup and the o-ring is for the square drive cover. If you didn't open it this time you don't have to replace the o-ring but should do it every oil change. It helps you empty the cup with out making a mess like you did when removing the oil filter cup. Give it a try on the next oil change, if you don't want to do the extra step then replace the o-ring at least once every other oil change. Very rare they leak though.

Thanks for the explanation and good advice! Just curious, when you remove the square drive cover, won’t all the fluid drain out anyway?
@ceescorner Жыл бұрын
@FearlessMods very little, when you insert the plastic then it'll flow out.

@FearlessMods i think there's a spring loaded plug in there that the plastic piece pushes out of the way when it's inserted... that will allow the oil to flow
