2021 MT09 - First Ride of 2022 + Brembo's tested!

Testing out the new Brembo braking setup on our 2021 MT09 SP. The idea was to improve the overall brake feel and achieve an "OEM plus" look.
Parts:
Brembo M4 Monobloc Calipers (34mm pistons)
Brembo RCS 19 18x20 radial Master Cylinder (set to 18)
Venhill clear braided lines with black fittings.

Brembo love all the way .. decided to get new touring gear so the brembo conversion needs to wait until later... Went out the other day , had a small high side,run out of fuel 😜😂... Lovely 🤪

Have seen your bike on the forum…looks 👍 need to ask about your mirrors, which adaptors did you use and did you need a spacer on the throttle grip.

Omg, your vid really save me, im trying to get a switch to enable both a cruise control and the brakelight so that i can switch my brake cyclinder to a galespeed 17.5x19, and the switch has to be really safe when deactivate the cruise control works perfect otherwise too dangerous to use it. Im gonna upgrade all the front brake (cyclinder, caliper, disc) since the OEM not good enough. I want something better, safer and give me good feeling. I suggest you trying the galespeed 17.5x18, it will definitely give you a better feeling than the rcs 17 or 19 from brembo

Is that Brembo's stock mirror adapter? There's also extra part between adapter and mirror to mount mirror higher and not touch resevoir's silver part arm? You had to buy also adapter for stock brake lines? Street Triple 765 with M4-32 calipers and thinking which RCS should I go for... maybe even Corsa Corsa or it's waste of money?

I didn't bother with the mirror adapter, just used the stock perch, no adapters for stock brake lines, I did full braided lines. I think m4-32 calipers have a smaller piston size so these would actually work fine with the stock nissen master cylinder. Triumph fitment is 100mm so would not work, need 108mm version of the m4-32 from modern(ish) Suzuki

How much did it cost for the brakes all in ?. Ur bike looks the finished article with brembos. Yamaha don't seem to use brembos on their bikes. Only thing I miss about my triumph with the m50 calipers.

I got a bit of a deal on parts but Id say that you could probably put this together for £800-1000 or maybe cheaper if you find some good used parts👍 It would probably be more cost effective to go the m50 route (if you could find a set from a Kawasaki) or the GP4'S and maintain the stock master cylinder. I believe OEM fitment Suzuki Brembo's will also work.

Yep, I just rode the XSR, and it's definitely an improvement. It should work just fine, although you will also need the double pole switch (brake and cruise) from the XSR as well👍

Hey! How did you get your brake light to work? I’ve tried so many combos and the only way I could get my brake light to work is when I pull the lever in the light shuts off.

Hi, they are the brembo M4 calipers with a 108mm (non italian bike) spacing that I used, although I had to pair it with a RCS 19 master cylinder to make them work properly due to the piston diameter in the M4 calipers. They work OK with the stock Master cylinder but not great due to the stock MS having too small of a piston diameter which results in excessive lever travel/cant get a really firm lever. If I was doing it again/on a 22 XSR900, I would just buy the Brembo GP4 calipers since these will pair perfectly with the stock Master cylinder, or you could also use second hand m50 calipers from a kawasaki (108mm spacing) if you could find any (these will also pair perfectly with the stock Master cylinder ratio)👍

Not that I am aware of, although I don't go on forums much. It was fairly straightforward, M4 Calipers (jap spacing) paired with a Brembo 19RCS master cylinder, I made my own stainless steel brake lines by measuring the originals and ordering the parts from Venhill (very good quality). The cruise control/brake light was also fairly simple. I just used a Gregtech switch box. If I did it again I would keep the stock master cylinder and just source a pair of m50 calipers (jap 108mm spacing) or a pair of GP4 calipers since these will match the piston size in the stock master cylinder and then you won't have to mess about with a switch box for the cruise / brake light👍

What discs and pads are you running now? I guess you didn't upgrade them before going with the Brembo, did you?

I bought EBC HH sintered pads (I think) for the stock calipers with stock discs before I bought any of the brembo bits, it was a marginal improvement over stock, slightly more bite but not a big difference in overall lever feel. When I went to the brembo setup I used stock discs and the standard sintered brembo pads, I considered bigger discs but concluded it would be a waste of money.

Hi, the dual circuit switch (cruise & brake light) along with all the wiring/plugs etc are identical to the MT10 (with the exception of the MT10's throttle roll of to deactivate cruise) so all of the tried & tested solutions on the forums for the MT10 will transfer across. There's a few different ways of doing it, you could simply buy a reverse Brembo switch and join the two circuits for example but, there's better ways of doing it that keep the circuits separate that use relays. I went with the CregTech plug & play solution for this reason, it is a bit if a squeeze to package on the 09 but looks factory (hidden within the headlight assembly) and works perfectly, just like the original 👍

Hi sure, the plug is behind the headlight i think (from memory), it is a bit of a squeeze but I managed to get the unit behind the headlight/cowling so it all looked stock from the outside👍

Brembo 17 RCS wouldn't be good enough in this project? As far as I see 17 RCS is compatible with MT09 2021+

Hi, yes I believe that the original Nissin master cylinder was 5/8ths so around 16mm... meaning the 17rcs would probably work fine with the stock setup and be a good upgrade over stock, especially if combined with the braided lines. I wanted Brembo Calipers and the corresponding Master Cylinder for the M4 calipers was 19mm. In hindsight it would have been easier to retain the stock master cylinder (and cruise control switches) and replace the calipers with the m50 lineup or the GP4 which has smaller caliper pistons and would work just fine with the stock Master Cylinder 👍

No not really, the m50/gp4 callipers are more modern and are lighter, it was just the case that the M4 was more readily available in the 108mm spacing and was cheaper.
