I’d go with the Next Gt Lite, as that appears to be the Cat’s preferred choice. Cats are quite intelligent ya know. Hmmm.

Guys, don't listen to Karl, he knows nothing. His cat is the brains behind the operation, so go with her recommendation. Nice one mate, that's really helpful to see all these laid out together. I was thinking about the F-GT lite, but as I have Playseat Challenge I think I'd just be paying for the same with less convenience.

i have had the playseat challenge for around 18 months and its great. i use the fanatec csw 2.5 with the loadcell pedel and as long as you cable tie well its brilliant. im 6ft and 17stone and no issues for me. the force feedback is no issue and i feel it adds to it as the FF actually shakes the seat kind of like a motion rig, its great. well done Karl, i watch your vids all time and always find more relatable, my go to sim channel

The only reason I got the NLR GT lite was because it already came with the shifter mount and I needed something foldable. Also I find it better than the challenge and if I enjoy sim racing I’ll definitely invest in something bigger and better I hope to buy the DOF REALITY H3 to get a full dive and then get into the whole direct drive

I was looking at some of the fancy extruded aluminium jobbies to go with my Fanatec Clubsport V2 wheelbase and CSL pedals with loadcell add on... my wife had to inform me that my Christmas surprise was a Playseat Evolution Alcantara ..." It can be used wth Fanatec cos I saw it in the ad " she said... I was worried , the Clubsport V2 had taken 2 weeks to rattle my office desk to oblivion . On Boxing day I set my new toy up , I was nervous but I needn't have been... the pedals can be mounted directly bolted to the plate , I'm not bothered about a clutch pedal so the wheel support being in the middle isn't an issue , I was able to fix the Fanatec footplate to the pedal plate using zip ties and it is solid... especially when the two long bolts that I didn't need after fixing the pedals direct are used to support the front end of the plate from the floor , the two holes at the top drilled very slightly to accept the long bolts.. and the Clubsport wheelbase ? It's solid enough ....but it does send some feedback straight down the wheel support to the pedals ...WOW !!! WOW !!! WOW !!! I wasn't expecting that !! ....that's the annoying thing about wives... they are always right 😁 .

If you use the spare strap for packing away the GT lite (assuming it's still in the package, mine is the original one) to tie the right hand side of the wheel deck tubing to the bottom right of the front legs, it's a lot stiffer, it also straightens the wheel deck out a bit if you've tightened the other strap up really tight (which pulls the wheel deck out of line) - also I only use the bottom half of the clamps between the pedal deck and the seat section, your weight keeps them together but I then just shift the back half out of the way and leave the pedals in place, makes it quicker as it definitely ISN'T that foldable lol (especially with a fairly heavy fanatec wheel, shifter and handbrake on it)

Great video, Karl, and no, you didn't chop your head off, but you know that already. Love your dry sense of humour. Based on your earlier reviews, I bought a Next Level GT Lite setup. If you use the large strap (that holds the whole rig together in initial packaging) to further tighten the wheelstand, there is NO flex. Ultra stable. Next Level have a video on how to make the rig more stable, btw. Love your work.

You know... spot on in your first minute. I bought mine online, foldable. Which it is and it does actually fit underneath my desk (big desk). It's underneath my desk now :D Just not with the extra side attachments, i wanted a all-in-one solution, flight as well as driving. That didn't really pan out.. but anyway, it's huge and you standing there does not give any sense of how big it is. It caught me by surprise. Anyway.. still happy with it, driving in VR is definitely more immersive using a seat like that. I got the next level racing - flight sim.(flying i will be testing coming weekend, i need the side attachments for that)

I'm concerned about being able to adjust seat distance, wheel height + distance + tilt, pedal tilt, and either seat height or pedal height. That combo is necessary to adjust for full comfort. Plus the cockpit has to be sturdy. I haven't shopped a lot, but I haven't found one with that level of adjustability and decent price. Which is surprising, maybe not, because shops always want to sell their premium product.
@KarlGosling
@KarlGosling 2 жыл бұрын
What's a "decent price" though mate? To some that's £200 to others £2000, everyone's budget is different. But most half decent cockpits will have all those adjustments, even the entry level GT Omega ART does (although it's a little flexy out the box).

Right now i still have my playseat evolution alcantara but the problem is the wheel stand. Right in front of the brake pedal. I bought it in 2009 with a g25 and in 2019 i bought a t300rs gt. Great investment but unusable with a manual h shifter because of the frame blocking the pedals imo. I made a small wooden plate combining the clutch and brake pedal as one pedal because i don't have a shifter. Good for rallying, always left foot braking.

One thing I've been wondering... It's very difficult to get exact dimensions for all these products. Of course, you get the overall cubics of them, but to figure out some DIY build or else, it's not enough. Now, seeing them all together here, I'm kind of wondering... maybe one could pair an IKEA Poang with a GT Omega Apex or something :D That miiiiight just fit. But maybe not for the armrest. Regardless, brilliant review and comparison between all those various model. Hugely informative!

I have the full Next Level DD Rig. The thing is amazing, so strong zero flexing and an impressive amount of adjustments. I call it my buggy because it has the choice of caster wheels or feet, the caster wheels are brilliant, it's far from a light rig but the wheels make my life easier when it's in the way. I mean I'm never mocked, except when my friends, her friends, our family's are visiting - "He's in the back room pretending to be a rally driver in his little buggy." All in all I'm yet to find fault in it, the only thing I did was replace all the nuts with Nylock nuts (I do that with everything I build). I just got the monitor stand which can be set-up to have the monitor in the perfect position, and the wee wheels on the monitor stand make moving my "little buggy" and it's two monitors easy as.

I know this is an old video....but I recently got the Next Level F-GT Lite and unlike the Playseat foldable option, the F-GT lite can be made more rigid with additional straps. In fact, it can become rigid enough to handle the Fanatec CSL DD and also the DD1 + DD2 (if FFB is set at reasonable %). I currently use it with the V3 pedals and a Logitech Wheel without any flex or issues on the pedals (or the wheel) and 3 additional straps in different spots for a rigid setup. I don't fold it, though. I just detach the pedal bit and move both to the side of the desk when not in use.
@KarlGosling
@KarlGosling 2 жыл бұрын
The PSC can also be made more rigid with bracing and straps, but usually you buy a foldable to be able to fold it... otherwise better to buy a static cockpit IME :)

I was looking at the basic package for the Fanatec DD pro with gran turismo coming out, do you have a recommendation for which stand would be best for the DD pro wheel? I would only get the 5nm one though, not the 8nm. Space is kind of an issue for me so I wouldn't be able to fit one of the larger units in my flat unfortunately. I watched a few of your videos and they're really great and informative. Going to keep looking through to see if I can find one.

I would go with the GT Omega Titan, it has quite a small footprint and is very solid! I have discounts in the description if you do go that way too :)

@@KarlGosling Wow, I didn't expect such a quick reply! Is there anything else available that's a little lighter on the wallet or does the DD rule out much of that market?

I sold all my stuff a while ago, and I've absolutely committed myself this time to just getting what I want without compromises. But fuck me, I've already spent more on a chair and base (Sparco seat and SimLab Evo GT1) than my entire old rig . I seriously don't think I'll be playing the thing for about another year but hopefully still worth it. I would just wait to be honest but as anyone into sim racing knows, you have to buy this stuff while it's in stock.

okay so like im 15 and 5 foot 2, will i able tall enough to use a cockpit cause i dont wanna dish out the money just to be too short (the one that is catching my eye is the playseat with the g920 attached so i'd like to know if i'd fit that specifically)

I’ve got one of those annoying questions, Karl... I own the GT Omega Apex and I want to buy a shifter and handbrake. Any suggestions on what would fit onto the shifter plate together? Or any of your usual creative solutions ? I know the Fanatec shifter fits and the handbrake would attach to the shifter itself but I heard the handbrake isn’t the best. I was thinking the Aiologs set might squeeze on?
@KarlGosling
@KarlGosling 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm I actually think you'll be lucky to fit anything on there together, it's not very wide at all. The Fanatec does solve this problem but that HB IMO is very overpriced and flimsy for what it is. If it were me I'd either get a second hand HE HB (I picked one up for the price of a new Fanatec HB) and just whip out the drill and bolt it to my rig somewhere! :) lol You may even be able to bolt something onto the outside of the shifter mount too! Aiologs do look like nice little units for sure! :)

You need a racing seat or a seat from a real car, a desk/gaming swivel chair will not work mate no.

Bit of a weird question, but do you know if any of these would fit into a 65cm wide cubby with a shifter attached? Budget isn't really an issue for me, but my only available area is between a desk and a wall. Doesn't seem to be an issue for a chassis itself for most from what I've read online, but just about nobody puts up the stats for how wide it is with the shifter on it. Honestly I may also be down to just mount my shifter up next to the wheel on the main deck, but it's unorthodox enough that I'm not even sure if half of them could accommodate it, and certainly nobody lists that either.
