I have always thought that the CrossTrek needs an STI version. It would have a turbo and a 6 speed. Then all the people who want a WRX hatchback would be happy again :-)
@802Garage4 жыл бұрын
They actually made an STI Sport package in 2016. Sadly it was all cosmetic upgrades. I will say though I saw one in person in Hyper Blue. Looked amazing with the black wing and extra bits. If only it had a turbo to match.

Agree totally with you on the manual trans. I cant stand automatics. I've been told that especially with vehicles with more power the manufacturer prefers automatics so they can control shift points as you mentioned in this video, even in manual mode it shifts itself. I was told by a dealership mechanic by being automatic the manufacturer has lower warranty issues from....those of us that like to 'use' a vehicle to it's full potential. I'm 47 and have owned 1 automatic vehicle in my life. Replaced 0 transmissions and 0 clutches even though I run my vehicles to over 200k. Thanks again for the vid. Keep up the great work.

4:10 I'm always impressed at how you can look at something and come up with a reference about it, be it movie related (E.T in this case) or otherwise (like the HDMI exhaust tip). Once you point something like that out, I just can't stop seeing it! The added bonus is that it makes everyday boring tasks that much less boring when you see the "alternate" reality! 😜 Thank you for making life more fun!

So I've learnt from a dealer that the reason for no manual options in the higher models is the eyesight system. Since it requires acceleration/braking intervention to prevent collisions, it wouldn't be able to disconnect a clutch's engagement in order to do an emergency stop. The engine would either continue to drive it forward or stall - both of which are not ideal. Great review by the way!

I've got a 2019 plug-in hybrid and apparently it's still faster than the 2021 Crosstrek Sport. My guess is that it's due to the torque of the electric motors and granted it's only like 0.2s faster. In the end, it's a fantastic car and it's my 3rd Subie!

Great review! The reason Subaru doesn't offer a 6MT with the 2.5 is twofold; the take-rate on manuals is already barely a blip on the radar. We see two or three 6MT Crosstreks per model year at our dealership. The fuel economy is also noticeable lower with the 6-speed, which affects Subaru's CAFE numbers. Manuals are a lot more fun, but in low-speed, gnarly off-road situations, I'll take X-mode over a clutch.

I appreciate the fact the Crosstrek is practically the only crossover-type SUV that still offers a manual, but it's sad that you can only get it in the bottom 2 trim levels with the underpowered engine. I agree that something called "sport" should actually be sporty; this should not only have the 6-speed stick but also a better sounding exhaust. I realize you can fix the exhaust fairly easily, but it should come from the factory that way, at least as an option. I keep hoping that some carmaker somewhere will decide to go against the move to electric robot pods and give us drivers who aren't millionaires something fun. Oh well, I probably should buy one next year before they're all gone.
