This is a true review of AMT. Trust me, I never wanted to go for a AMT or any automatic at all. I drive a hatchback manual for the last 15 years. I test drove 5 times Nexon AMT never did I feel any jerk. The most important thing is to drive with a light foot. Since in manual cars the tendency is to rev hard so if you take the same behavior and apply it to automatic it wont work. You'll understand the dynamics of driving an automatic car within 1-2 kms of driving. For city driving, it's a blessing and for highway, it's wonderful since you are cruising and you don't have to worry about gear changes. Buy it closing your eye...it'll be the best car purchase decision

I also own AMT Nexon. No jerks. Fuel Economy - around 10 in heavy traffic, 17-18 on highway. Total kms driven - 6500 km

Absolutely true.Today I drove this variant of Nexon and the experience is awesome.Perticularly for bumper to bumper traffic.

I have XZA+O (#darkedition) and drove around 900km so far and there is no Jerk or anything.. It runs so smooth.. Currently getting 10.5 kmpl in heavy traffic... Very good Braking and convenient handling .... Amazing Product from TATA

We can switch to Sports Drive mode for Hilly Areas...so far as I feel it generates more power automatically when on hill in Eco and City mode as well...So won't feel any lag...

This is the most honest drive review of nexon's amt gearbox..... Many other KZbinRS just keep on repeating that it a jerky, laggy gearbox.... Thanks manish

It's been close to 10 months since I am driving the Nexon AMT XZA plus variant and I still feel this AMT gearbox needs improvement. It's 3rd gear shifts way too late at 37kmph in city/sport modes. Due to this delay all the other gear changes are significantly delayed. The city mode shifts to 5th gear close to 70kmph and 6th gear at ~85kmph. This being the default mode doesnt make sense since most cities have traffic and getting such a speed itself is a challenge inside the city. I was forced to use manual mode which allowed me to upshift sooner at the required rpm and speed and I am able to get far better mileage and fun out of the car now.

The main reasons it lags is mostly beacuse people would be driving in Economy mode, in city or sports mode, it's not that laggy and jerky

1. ) I have taken test drive of Petrol AMT in Sports mode only, when the speed reaches to around 20-23 it changes gear from 1st to 2nd and you can count 123, on 3 power will come back again, for whole 2 seconds there is no power and that irritates you. 2. ) when you put your foot on the accelerator in any mode, it feels like a sudden burst of power and you will be thrown in your seat, that what i initially felt. But after watching some videos and again taking a test drive i realised that the fuelling of this car is done terribly, and on regular driving you will feel a jerk whenever you put you foot on the throttle.

@@AnkitSharma-bu1cz Sorry for late reply, Automatic Transmission are made for convenient and easy driving there has to be compromise made, if you want performance buy a DCT (with overheating in traffic conditions) or just use a manual (with extra effort and leg pain in heavy traffic off course), I do agree there is a lag but it's quite well masked compared to that crap Mahindra and Maruti AMT

Exactly true Nexon is ultra smooth AMT.i own xza + amt facelift.And it runs very smooth with very little lag and no jerk as well explained in video by this dude.

He is right...I purchased the Nexon xza+(o) top model. I am pretty satisfied with amt. Switching from a manual to amt is a boon for me, i am now free from pressing clutch, changing gears etc. I do suggest to purchase extended warranty also for 18.5 k. This car is also boon for driving in Kumaon hills. Use sport mode in hills and you won't have to worry.

I own a XZA+ AMT, which I have driven around 800 km. I also have a Ecosport 1.5 petrol, DCT for 5 years. Nexon does have slight vibrations, but they are felt only at slow speeds, probably due to three cylinder engine. It cannot match the smoothness of naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine. It also has some tubo lag and you will notice gear shift and head nod, specially when gear shifts from 1st to 2nd. But it is more spacious and comfortable than any compact SUV, including Ecosport. Pickup is good, specially in Sport mode. I am getting economy of 8-9 km/l in heavy city traffic. I will recommend it for first time automatic buyers.

Nexon Mast Gaadi hai yaar. Logo ko bolne do. Maine li hai Nexon, abhi pichhli Holi pe. Manual Transmission, XZ+ variant. I have no issues at all till now. Ride Quality, Breaking, Turn Radius. Everything is up to the mark.

@@tarunn99able my car is one month old. I have driven 150 kms in city (only City move) in odometer it was showing 8kms mileage. However i recently went to Highway (this includes hill driving + City traffic ) and did another 150 kms in economy mode it gave odometer average of 16kms. I always drive with AC on within and outside City. My relative owns i10 NIOS, is gave him 8kms till the first servicing. So as per my knowledge majority of cars give less mileage till first servicing. Manual should give better mileage if you do accurate great shifts and drive with light foot.

People commenting "there are no jerks" need a reality check. Strongly recommend to drive any good automatic irrespective of brand. Even try Altroz DCA if Tata is the only brand choice and you will know.

Bought Nexon AMT XZA on 6-Feb-22. Its good but saw gear oil leakage today. Will have to change gearbox. My friend also got gear box replaced in first few weeks due to gearbox oil leakage.

What oil leakage so soon, that's what keeping away to buy Nexon only the gearbox is problem in Nexon, what other problems you face in Nexon till now and how much time tata take to resolve your gearbox issue?

@@harshsharma9911 No other problem. They changed Gearbox under Warranty within a day. Mileage is 8 in city. Hoping it will go up after first service.

Now in 4th month, engine loosing power when AC is on. Service centre found engine oil leakage due to Tappet cover. Waiting to get the car. Hoping no further issues.

If you are a driving enthusiast, trust me dont go for amt. also when it comes to comfort, its not there because of the speed-shift setup of this car. Amt pulls till 18 kmph before it shifts to second gear and when this happens you will feel like the car is suffering as the engine noise becomes quite loud at that speed and then once you are in 2nd gear everything becomes smooth but then again it starts suffering as it pulls till 37 kmph before it shifts to 3rd. When it comes to rough road, the car becomes quite uncomfortable in 1st/2nd gear as it gets confused on when to apply the clutch and when not. Also my car had a oil leakage issue and the gear box was changed within 3 months of purchase. See the car is overall good but amt is still an issue. Go for manual .

I have punch AMT bs6 phase 2 . There is minimal lag that too from first to second gear. Rest is no problem. But sometimes I dont know why it takes a heavy jerk while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I have experienced it once or twice till now

I have taken test drive of Nexon AMT (Petrol), Venue DCT and Kiger CVT on same day and driven on same road, my fears about Nexon AMT gear box were true. There is too much lag till 3rd gear (no jerk), as a driving enthusiast it is very tough for me to accept. When even Maruti offers CVT in Baleno don't understand TATA with so much investment on safety still uses AMT. Nexon deserved either CVT or torque converter, i would not have bothered to give 1-1.5l more for a better gear box, heavy heatedly i had to drop Nexon AMT from my list because of this reason, tough to shell out 13+ lacs on a undercooked gearbox.

Bhai eco mai bhi kahan lag pta chalta hai? Itna minor lag toh manual cars mai bhi aata hai. Brezza torque converter jyada bekaar tha Nexon AMT se. Isiliye maine Nexon AMT li.

See i preferred automatic as I don't knew driving but to me Nexon driving was never uncomfortable...there is quite space inside where you can stretch your legs and it's very comfortable driving in rough roads

I have Celerio AMT, i have to switch to Manual mode often while over taking or in case of inclines or slopes. Lets say you are in 3rd gear and you want a quick overtake then u need to shift up the gear manually for a quick overtake else there will be a apparent lag (essentially you will loose crucial few seconds in case of single road), same in case of slope or parking ramp where you don't want gear to change but AMT does change and gives a jerk. Is similar issue present in Nexon AMT as well? Does AMT works smooth for over-taking and inclines?

Update: I did a test drive of Petrol AMT and what i suspected above came true, when even Maruti does not offer AMT on higher end variants (Brezza, Baleno, s-cross ... etc) not sure why TATA and Mahindra stuck to AMT for Nexon/XUV300. Diesel AMT might be slightly better but that is 15l+ and a different segment.

@@gopiramanujam1060 Actually that gets very irritating over period of time and basic advantage of automatic vehicle is lost, i own wagon r AMT and same thing i felt on Nexon as well. Basically you loose very crucial few seconds whenever you demand quick acceleration, also gives lack of confidence in overtaking. If you are someone who is not bothered by that then it is fine, but even then it costs 13-14 lacs plus you get very poor mileage of 10-11km. I felt too much of compromise.

Nexon diesel XZA+ AMT has a lag during 2nd to 3rd gear shift. In sports mode the lag is reduced. Cant say jerky.

@@anujkhatri9381 we can't call it jerk. It is lag between shifting gears. It is normal for all amt gear box. When you start using it you ll get used to it and you will like it.. it has nice power.

Lag and little Jerkiness are characteristics of AMT transmission. Nobody can avoid it in AMT until technology advances. Nexon deserves to have a proper Automatic like Torque Converting automatic transmission. People who don't have knowledge on any automatic and do not have driving experience of automatic can find less difference or issues. Those who have driven and experienced what is proper automatic Torque converters, DCT, and CVTs they will know what issues they are finding in AMT. everybody's mind and experience are not same. And by the way, you are saying we are paying less money for Nexon AMT. its not completely true, except XMA and XMA(S) all other variants are well above priced and features in XMA is also less compared to the competition.

Book online, you will get it faster, I booked XMA on 12th Feb and got it on 12th March though showroom guys had quoted me 8 weeks waiting period, also when I went for pdi i found some customer was complaining in showroom that he had booked his nexon on 15th Jan and still there was no info when his car will come. So online booking do make difference :)

Light foot pedal or progressive acceleration is what he is suggesting. My fear is it's not always practical to have a light foot in all conditions. Sometimes it's required for a hard accelration.
