A unique perspective here maybe, but having bought one, 2 weeks and 1000 miles later, I'm in awe of its performance and quality. Yes, the suspension is Sportsbike hard but I've changed the suspension to "comfort" settings and it makes a difference. Compared to the 2013 Speed I traded in, the 1200 is super light and handles like it's on rails. It accelerates in 6th gear so fast, I keep looking for another gear. Comparing this to previous speed triples is understandable but they are like chalk and cheese.

I so wanted to love the bike, tested twice over the weekend and 150 miles on a brand new bike and the engine and gearbox was quite agricultural, vibey quite bad around 2500/3000rpm, through bars and mirror vibrate, and a quick shifter that was with a clunk. after my ride I was looking around the bike and noticed the chain looked loose, seems this week-old bike that just went through PDI and on the road test by the dealer and they missed the chain tensioning, was a good 55/65mm of travel if not more. I'm presuming this had a detrimental effect and might explain the feel i had from the engine of power delivery. defo had to ride the gears more on this compared to the 1050, was not happy rolling on in top gear when being lazy on a 35mph bend, it hated that! maybe the chain again?

This problem with bike colors is really becoming ridiculous, it's hard to find a bike with a decent color nowadays. Everyone's been reading 50 Shades of Grey, but actually only read the title of the book.

Also available in black , should at least have a red and blue as standard , the original bikes were available in mad colours years ago which was a bit of a signature ,they should bring that back as an option at least , moneys in the tech and not the paint I suppose , it's the trend . Track tool for the road , watched a launch video on this bike, the bike testers were impressed with it on track , which would be it's natural home . It's euro 5ed up to the headlamps , who's going to be first to put a loud can on ? can't wait to hear that !

I bought a 1050 RS two weeks ago and wondered if I'd done the right thing or if I should have waited for this new version. After watching a ruck of reviews on the new one I think I made the right choice. I think the 1050 looks better and I agree with TMF about the exhausts. I love the black and yellow of my 1050. Again I agree with TMF 148 BHP is plenty and I agree with moto.warwick that the extra power is only really useable on the track. On top of that Triumph did a pretty good deal on the 1050, free quick shifter, £1,000 off price and £500 worth of accessories. If you factor all that in it works out about £4,000 less than the 1200 but I don't think it's £4,000 less of a bike. I doubt I will ever get anywhere near the limits of the 1050 so I sure as heck wouldn't on the 1200 so for me yes I made the right choice.

Ive just had a good ride on the new version and have had the previous RS version for 3 years, believe me the new one is set up for the track use being very firm for my favourite bumpy B roads. If you want a full on sports bike then the new one is miles better. If like me you have had your fill of sports bikes that become fun beyond my idea of sanity then thats the reason i purchased a naked 2018 RS to be fun yet more road biased. For my light weight the i'm sure the springs would have to be replaced with reduced spring rate versions as no amount of adjustment would make any difference. In addition the throttle was surprisingly snatchy particularly noticeable after bumps when no amount of smooth throttle control will help. This bike will be heaven for those that genuinely want to ride hard / enjoy track days.

Casualty of redesigning the gears for better mesh efficiency. Same story for the undertail exhaust, brawny bruiser looks, and plush suspension. Lately you don't do a segment on highway performance. You don't need a 175ph bike to do 40kph. I want to know at 130-140kph how many RPM the engine is spinning at and if there are any spots in the REV range where the engine vibrations is noticed. Also, I like to know what the torque curve looks like. You didn't even mention the torque spec. These things are more important than available colors as you mentioned twice.

As a very happy owner of the 2019 Speed Triple RS, this review I was looking forward to very much. I love the new bike from everything I have seen, but I have yet to ride one (the one dealer here in Michigan is very stingy about offering demo rides). The bike's looks are a bit 'plain' compared to the musclebound version like mine; I love the most everything I see but there'd be a lot to do on that one (exhaust, front cowling/bug screen, etc) and here that bike is $18,300... which is pricey. I LOVE that new TFT display, really attractive looking from everything I've seen so far. it's a shame you didn't get to open it up and let her rip, which is probably the biggest change - +30hp is no joke. I love the headlights and taillights so that's no issue (I love the headlights and my after-market taillights on my '19 too). I am hoping to see you do a more in-depth review and hope that you were able to get into it more. As always, thank you for keeping your reviews real and honest.

Curiously all the 2021 Speed Triples tested have all been the boring grey option with not one in the nicer gloss black finish which I find a bit odd.Triumph have come under a lot of criticism for their poor colours lately so maybe they will take note and produce some more colourful options next year.By the way the old red and red and white colours on the older models sold really well so don't be fooled by the marketing boys trying to convince you that grey is a top colour option [black has always sold well].Take care mate and ride safe.

However I thought that again I would remark on the seemingly poorer quality of the video definition, particularly in full screen on my 22" monitor, of this video and was going back to compare with the RE Meteor to compare when I found it was missing. The RE Meteor was perfect in every way. It just interests me why the quality of the videos vary, this one looking like a poor computer game lacking definition and clarity. Are you using different cameras, different processing software or is it simply the weather conditions? Well as always the review is no the less informative, at times comical and always interesting. Sorry to put in that whinge but hope you understand, like your bike reviews I have to mention the bad with the good.

Good review. One question for you: Most journalists such as MCN, Ride or Fast Bikes pointed out that this new bike was badly set for the road as it is too stiff - like a ZX10R, very focused and it is rather a good track bike. What is your impression on this? Is it too stiff? Most of them also stated that the new Speed wasn't easy to ride at low speed like the old 1050. What was your feedback when you were in town centre? Thanks for sharing, Keep up the good work.

I believe it was meant to be a Streetfighter version of the Daytona…. At least historically. Crash a Daytona, remove the fairing bits, but keep the lights and you are left with the lights looking a little odd without the fairing. Ducati went in a different direction with the Monster and put a round headlight…. In the early days, but that has also gone more stylized. For Triumph, they have several bikes with the round headlights, so in some ways this bike offers something with a different look.

@@78Outlaw yes, very early speed triples were like monsters with a single round headlight followed quickly with twins. Ironically when the Daytona was discontinued was when they switched to the style of the fairing style headlights without a fairing in the speed triple back in 2005. I like both aesthetics, but to me the twin round feels iconic.
