People bemoan the end of production of the Daytona 955i and Sprint RS so when Truimph actually make something similar with top notch build quality, suspension, engine and brakes, yet reviewers then moan about the riding position yet cannot find any actual faults with it. This bike is for those who love the brand, the RS1200 engine and chassis but want some form of wind protection and also a riding position that is superior for track riding. Having ridden supernakeds for a few years, I now own an RR after being sold after a test ride. The suspension and brakes are simply the best I have ever experienced, the engine is perfect for the road and it loves to rev for track. The riding position is fine, noting near as extreme as a new fireblade or ZX10, yet not as sit up and beg as the likes of an RS660. When you ride fast on track, wide bared supernakeds become a little unstable at high speed and you just do not get the feeling on the front end you get with clip-ons. My advice, test ride one and if you are considering one, you will be sold on it.

Man, I think it’s awesome…but it is definitely extremely “sporty” for me. I rode it for a good 30 minutes today, and I was ready to get off. I did a bit of freeway, mid speed roads, and then stoplight traffic. I would absolutely LOVE to rip this thing on a track…unfortunately, the closest one to me is three hours away. I’m sure I would get more used to the riding position quickly. For context, I currently own a ‘16 Speed… The engine is sublime, honestly everything is amazing, I guess I’m just old and bent to that more upright naked position. As I type this my wrists and upper back are a bit sore from a 30 minute ride 4-5 hours ago. I love the looks, and would absolutely consider one in my garage if I had a track near me and did more of that…

I just bought the red version. It is NOT a sport bike but a Retro naked bike. A true 21'st century Cafe Racer. It looks fabulous next to my Thruxton R with it's classic fairing. The RR is at home on long twisties and not slow country roads like you are riding. It's a track day canyon carving machine.

I test rode one and fell in one with it. I found the riding position wasn’t as extreme as a dedicated sports bike, the brakes and suspension are phenomenal, power delivery perfect, and it just looks gorgeous. Trouble is I just can’t justify spending 18k on what would essentially be a toy! I also think that options such as tpms and heated grips should be standard at that price point.

Update on previous comments. I've now ridden my 1200rr on the track. Bike replaced my 1299 panigale which I thought I would miss on the track. I didn't miss the Pani at all which shows me how good the 1200rr is. I'm about half way up the fast group but shows me you have to be really super fast to exploit the extra performance the panigale can give you. Plus 1200rr is easier to ride on the track than the Pani. So for me it's a great all round sports bike

Great vid Andy, I think the indicator may be down to the settings. On the advance setting sliding the switch only activates a quick flash (lane changing etc.), to activate the full indicator you have to slide it for an extra split second. You get used to it after a while and I find it really useful for overtaking / lane changing etc. You can turn this setting off and have normal 'self cancelling' or no cancelling at all.

I’m with you. I like having a ‘proper’ sportsbike and a naked. But if I could only own one bike, then it might be this, because it’s a bit of both. And I think it’s great they tried something a bit different. Having ridden it myself, I can say it certainly felt to me a bit more practical on the road than a full-blooded sportsbike.

The whole reason naked bikes exist is that they do more than one thing well. If your sportbike is not full sportbike but more like a naked.... you're getting something that can sort of do it all, that is the point after all

They really need to make a Speed Triple with the round headlight , fairing and trick electronic suspension from the RR , with upright handlebars from the RS. (edit : and you pretty much said that towards the end of the video . I should wait until I've finished watching before commenting !) I could be interested in a Speed Triple like that, assuming I could afford it.

You mention 3 bikes you'd buy instead of the RR in 3 different categories. The RR can fulfil those roles (maybe not to quite the same level) but it's aimed at covering those markets. I hope it does well as it's a beautiful machine to my eye.

I love this bike! Had the recall brake bolts serviced and update for the dash to eliminate the low oil pressure warning. The indicators with a touch will stay on 3 blinks good for changing lanes. Just got mine a week ago and I love it. Everything you said about it is true but that's what makes it special imo. I love something that stands out in a crowd, and this is definately one of those things. I still have my GS if I want to go touring or ride 2 up, as an only bike might not be that practical. Have done a good 2 to 3 hours on it without any fatigue though. Oh and by the way if you only tap the indicator it flashes twice and goes off. That's what might have happened in your case.

@@worldwide_motorcycles9163 I have also had the low oil pressure light & a transmission fault light (which was quickshifter failure) Check that you front indicators are not vibrating with the fan running. Also a recall on rear brake disc mounting bolts that may fall out. IMHO Triumph are having quality control issues & lack of proper testing & development on 1200 rs & rr plus a lot of components are obviously being sourced from China ie disc bolts with dodgy threads & faulty cooling fan motors etc

thanks for the review. Have bought a new, old stock triple 1200 RR (2022 Dec. made) for a little over Ł14k (English pounds) and can't wait to receive it in the next couple of weeks. What category I would chose to place it? it is a gorgeous, powerful street bike that, in the right hands will shred tires as well as carve corners or Ill take it to Sepang and get some lap times in. I don't understand why motorbikes have to be categorised and criticised if they don't fit the norm. It is encouraging that Triumph made this bike because it is different and not a flash in the pan! In regards to categorising this is that it seems that all you bloggers stack on comments for each other and support your strange views on to the bike public. Every bike will have Knicks and knacks like indicator buttons or unusual placement. Let me tell you there is a thing called getting used to it. Not to be too critical is actually a nice change of things. stay professional and fair in views and if someone wants to spend money than so be it. I had a street fighter V4 and all the people rave about it. I did too but tires and petrol cost and servicing was just too high to make it a bike for me. So, I sold it within 14 months and it took me 18 months to find this beauty here. Can't wait. Thanks for the video and maybe look at your old videos where you have been more enthusiastic about the bikes tested.

You're right about the indicator problem Andy, I'd a similar problem with my Street triple , to indicate left you had to hold the indicator switch against the stop for a second minimum, when I mentioned this at the first service they opened it up and said it was a faulty contact which they replaced, problem solved.

I know that I'm really late to the party, but i finally took one of these out today. My daily commuter is an '05 955i Daytona. I found the RR to be less 'sporty' in the riding position and therefore less weight on my wrists. It also feels less aggressive when you wind the throttle wide open, but then you look down and see that you are WAY above the speed limit. If I could justify spending $24k (NZD) I think that I could quite happily live with it as a daily but it does need different bar end weights to get rid of the vibrations at motorway speeds. And it needs is a better (louder) exhaust.

Glad you're recovering from Covid Andy. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I tend to agree that it will only appeal to those that like the look. A bit like my Thruxton R which I updated with the Cafe Fairing, Vance and Hines exhaust etc.. IMHO, it looks really amazing, sounds fantastic, and rides wonderfully, but those lowered clip-ons makes the riding position really uncomfortable. The longest ride I have done in one day was 250 miles and I was completely fatigued, wrists throbbing and left it in the garage for a month. Not sure anyone else has commented but with regards to the indicators. I suspect you had them on auto advance mode. A quick prod and it only flashes about 3 or 4 times (for lane changes I guess) you have to hold the switch (left or right) a little longer for it to flash for longer and then it will turn off automatically depending on the conditions (time/distance/lean etc). You can change this feature in the settings. Hope this helps.

I sat on one of these 2 weeks ago next to the regular model. Its just simply not great at either market I was surprised how far forward it was for a naked despite having clip ons. The bike is beautiful & is one of the best looking bikes on the market today and looks alone would be why some people will still buy it. I think the easiest fix is to put handlebars back & make the position equal to the other Models & make the fairings work with it. I think if Triumph actually do it the bike will sell easily. Also for the suggestion box make a fully faired version with both the 765 & 1050 and bring back the Daytona name to the regular market.

After recently buying an old yellow Daytona with cow-horn handlebars and having to replace them with og clip-ons, I have to say that it is the clip-ons that affect the riding position, not the fairing. Mixing the two does make the bike look less sporty 'n all. I originally bought a brand new T509 Speed Triple (and then replaced it with Y2K 955i) and I had both those bikes fitted with Daytona clip-ons. The original T509 factory Speed Triple had clip-ons when they came out, as did the steel frame Mk 1 Bloor versions. If people bang on constantly about supposed comfort improvements then we'll all end up on ADVs. I do like the look of the new bike, thinking it brings the Speed Triple identity back to it's original format, but would avoid it because of EURO5.

The acid test will be sales and try as I might I can't find details on models sold for the RR. If its not the success hoped for then there's every reason to hope the better suspension makes it across to the RS. But, for me, I'd take an S version anyday, minus much of the electronics, I'd live with Showa suspension, lose keyless and quikshifter and 4 grand off the price of the RS .😁

Looks like a throwback to the late '90s "street sports", like the Suzuki TL1000S, Honda VTR1000F, BMW R1200S or Yamaha TRX 850. Can't think of another current example, although I guess the Ducati Supersport 950 probably isn't far off, despite the full fairing.

I don't understand the cost comparison to the S1000RR. You can easily make the BMW cost more with options like the carbon pack and dynamic suspension, and the S1000RR just feels cheaper in terms of fit and finish (unless perhaps you spec the carbon and titanium exhaust for what, 5k more?). I rode the S1000RR around 500km last year, mostly a UK weekend rental but also some test rides in Switzerland. I prefer the Triumph, it feels lighter, narrower and more premium.

All I hear about the new RS is its very choppy and track focused. But this RR I've heard is a better road bike. May be do as Daytona did in Ruislip (built the Speed Quattro all those years ago from the 1200 Daytona) and turn the RR into the RS...??? I'd be really interested in your thoughts on this??? The issue with the indicator is that if you flick the Turn indicator it will go for 3 secs then turn off, you need to hold it longer to active it for 8 secs and same distance, i dont like how that have done that as it’s annoying to remember to hold it longer and then i find it doesn’t turn off fast enough.

Coming 50 years of age this year I fancy a sport bike that’s comfortable and has all the luxuries although the seat will be changed for the standard as it’s a tad hard for longer rides. i kinda get you. i do think the speed triple is trying filling in the gap were the Daytona was ment to fill in the sport/supersport segment, and soo triumph decided to slap on some fairings on the speed triple and called it a day. its like what you said if you want a retro get a speed twin, if you want to geta sports bike get a proper sports bike. imo only kind people would go for it is the ones that does not like the bug eye version with an extra cost.

flash in the pan me thinks... however when at my triumph dealer a discussion was happening between the sales guys and a couple clients they sold the 1200 speed triple, both have complaints how harsh the front end was and no matter how you soften or have it set up its unstable around the twisties when hit even the smallest bump, I tested one and felt exactly the same, now if they put this active suspension off the RR on the RS would make it a far far better bike and less feel like a track-focused naked which makes NO sense at all. After my 3 hour trial, the sales guy said you could change out the springs and a few have, my reply was "not on a bike I've just paid you over 15k for"

It looks like the R9t racer revisited in a way. A similar recipe using a comfy naked bike as the donor and adding a retro fairing and clip ons. Ok so the BMW wasn't as modern or fast but it was cheaper and both suffer from the same issues. The Beemer got binned because it just didn't sell so the Triumph is likely to go the same way and anyone who's bought one will suffer heavy depreciation because it won't sell. So if you do fancy one get it on a PCP to edge your bets so you can just hand it back at the end of the term and walk away if the used value bombs.

@@TheMissendenFlyer You're correct of course but at the moment it could go either way so a PCP which many do anyway seems like a less risky option as by the time the 3 years is up the position would become clearer? So you'd have the optionwhether to hand it back or pay the balance and keep it.

Any bike that has super low bars usually gets quietly dropped from sale, or sits unsold at the dealers. XSR900 Abarth looking at you here. :) For this bike to sell at the £18k, price point it needs to be without fault and aimed at a specific section of the market. Fitted with standard speed triple bars would go some way to doing that. Also I could see a gap in the market for the street triple, with this style fairing. If it has the right bars fitted of course.
