I had a diesel rental V60 last time I was in the UK with only a few miles on the clock. Took me 10mins to work out how to start it. What a rocket ship though ( the coppers cant endorse your Ozzie licence😁) and a beautiful interior with all the gadgets. They are silly, silly money here in Australia unfortunately with servicing costs that will blow your mind.

One of the best cars ever to feature on Modern Mondays. There is something so right about these big Volvo saloons and estates. Will traditional 60 and 90 cars see another generation? I have my doubts, particularly re. the 90 series, but what a shame it will be if Volvo becomes an SUV only company.

They won't sell it with AWD without either jacking up the ride height or jacking up the price tag to the $70k bracket, so no dice.

This car is just a stop gap between petrol and full electric. If I needed to spend several tens of thousands on a car, I'd rather take one of their older barges and convert that to electric. Best of both worlds, drive a powerful fully electric car and still have an uncomplicated car. I don't see this car living beyond 15 years, too many complicated electronics and software...

I must say you look very good behind the wheel, it suits you! I'm not particularly fond, at all, of the current Volvo styling, exterior and interior. Interesting to hear that this vehicle is manufactured here in the US 🇺🇸! I would have thought it would have been manufactured in Sweden 🇸🇪, its home country, especially for your market. Too much black inside; piano black attracts too many fingerprints, my OCD does not like that. I do love the fact you can order Bowers & Wilkins sound system, one of the best! But the endless interior chrome can be blinding as well. Like you, I dislike endless submenus to control key functions, needless and potentially hazardous, dangerous whilst driving. I would like to see a return to an estate and not this endless SUV nonsense! Excellent review!

I hate that interior, limited rear leg room to stretch one's legs out, on a four or five hour journey one would have the risk of a DVT. Touch screens should be banned as inherently dangerous as one's eyes are off the road for far too long, an RTC can occur in a split second, manufacturers should go back to knobs and switches as no need to look at them to operate. Self Driving Cars, hopefully I will be pushing up Daisies or feeding the fishes, preferred burial, before they are commonplace. I don't mind an auto box, actually like them if not a flappy paddle thingy and yes I am a Dinosaur.

I had one of these and agree, the back seat isn't the biggest in the world but I didn't take many passengers, the screen is a bit of a pain at first but I got used to it, the remembers the settings for things like auto start stop and lane keep assist so I rarely found myself having to use the screen. The automatic climate controls worked well too so as to help focus on the road.

The biggest iPhone on sale (2023) actually fits perfectly in the slot in the middle. It does not fit of you have some sort of protection cover on it or if you treat it as a wallet, but the phone itself fits like a glove. Pretty sure that is what it is meant for as you connect to the Apple Carplay / Android Auto with a cable inside the center console and there is room for a cable beneath you phone when it is in this slot.

I was talking to a fella who tests EVs recently, he said there is a firm that aims to be able to convert piston cars to electric for a few grand in the next few years. If that happens I think I'll go down that route. £50K for a saloon is a bit rich for my blood, lovely car though.
@GoldenCroc
@GoldenCroc 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, that seems very hard to pull off if you want all system to work as they should, but if you can live with some compromises, it is possible I guess. Not convinced there is any market for it though at the likely price of at least 4-5k on the low end, but we shall see.

@@GoldenCroc The market would be people with classic cars, and maybe just people who like their daily driver and are happy to extend its life with a conversion. I agree that too much functionality is being put into touchscreens. However, this can be compensated by a good voice control system and I have seen reviews which rate this feature highly on the latest Volvos because it's a Google based system.
@steveunderwood3683
@steveunderwood3683 3 жыл бұрын
There are some serious inconsistencies in the controls in the current Volvos. Many things are controllable by voice, but not all. The mix of what can be voice controlled is a bit strange. I need to reach forwards to the touch screen to use a control to change my temperature, but I can more conveniently reach down the side of my seat and use a physical control to turn on the massager. That's a pretty odd mix.
@nickclark6001
@nickclark6001 3 жыл бұрын
A nice review but you criticise the screen without studying the handbook , obviously you cant take it all in at once . regarding the fan and heater , Voice control is the answer . Initially you set the heating to AUTO and 20c to start with and after a few days alter it a few degrees up or down to suit yourself ... then leave it alone , Then there is no faster way to get the car up to or down to your preferred temperature without touching or doing a thing .. if you want to alter the temperature you TELL it with your voice .. without touching a thing ...
@luketrend1161

Yes, all well and good until you have little people on the back seat… when I press the voice activation button, I get to hear a cacophony from the back seat offering all manner of voice commands that they have learnt 🤣🤣🤣. But when they are not in the car, saying: “I’m hot”, or “I’m cold” is enough to change the temperature to a more desirable setting 😊

Beautiful. Arguably a styling leader. Some motorists will prefer an SUV type vehicle to have a commanding view faux lifestyle features to go with its faux leather and faux value for money. This does not give manufacturers a licence to stop building safe, well designed, better handling and ultimately more rewarding cars. I love Volvos, I love my Audi but this S60 is marvellous. Can we see diesel cars becoming collectable after 2030?

My entire family has a bitter taste in our mouth after our experience with a Volvo S60. Worst car to ever drive the roads. Sure it was used but so was every other car we ever had and nothing had problems like that. Toyota for us after that. And people have told me it was because Ford owned them at the time but I saw a new S60 break down in the side of the road and the KZbinr savagegeese showed us his experiences with his Volvo CUV but thankfully for him he bought it new and with warranty. Ford or the CCP. They gonna suck.

They aren't selling a lot of them at all, which is one of the reasons the options keeps getting trimmed year on year. This might even be the last compact saloon from Volvo, since the plant that makes them will be switching over to build the next XC90 and the Polestar 3 and Volvo has not announced a successor in the works.

@@furiousdriving Alright, I must ask, why do you hate CUVs so much? I have owned both a sedan and a SUV. I can tell you I will never get a sedan, wagon, hatchback ever again unless I get it as a second vehicle. I will mostly get a CUV tbh if something happens to my 4Runner. Let me say my dream car would be a lifted corolla or camry wagon and I do like actual car bodys. As you know there are so many crossovers that all my points might not apply equally. Okay I think the biggest thing for me personally is ground clearance. Cars just suck at this and every generation automakers make them "lower and sportier" I'm still young but dear god it's a pain to get in some cars and I've hit myself in the head a few times getting into them and when I had my Camry my poor mom struggled to lower herself due to her back. I expect I will gave this problem later in life and many others too. If I walk around parking lots all sedans typically have curb rash in the rims and dents all around the bumpers. The argument could be made they are unskilled drivers but I've been in situation where I don't see how I couldn't have my tire hit a curb or just tight corners because of semi trucks. My area is very hilly which probably makes my sutation different than yours. But in my Camry I could only back up from my driveway. Trying to get out while forward would result in damage to the front. My neighbors sedans get damage underneath from hitting the ground as the go downhill for their driveway. And a few weeks back while visiting friends in Hawaii we damage the underside of her brand new Corolla trying to get to a beach cause it is so low. Then we watched all these trucks and crossovers easily cross the little path and I said that's why you should get a crossover next time. When I had my Camry totalled our rental was a Mitsubishi outlander sport. The most stereotypical vehicle of the CUV craze. We took that thing offroading to see the winter Solstice and it handled it great. No way a sedan could have ever made it. Plus even though its subcompact it as available AWD. I cant think of a single subcompact car That offers AWD off the top of my head. Also I cant see over hills when turning in a car but a CUV can. I gave it just hope nothing is there. They just make them so low to be impractical. Also head room in the back sucks. Comparing the back of that Mitsubishi and the back I'd my brothers girlfriends Honda civic hatch and head room is great. But in the Civic my head hurts the roof. You see car reviewers talk about head room for cars but never CUVs. Most modern cars cant tow either. They dont even have ratings. Lots of CUVs do though. Interior is a big thing. Compare the space of a Compact CUV like the RAV4 to that of the compact sedan Corolla. The RAV4 just beats it and even the new subcompact CUV Corolla Cross beats the sedan variation and hatch. The argument of a wagon being as practical can be made but no mainstream and most importantly reliable brand exist for us. Except maybe the Outback which subaru markets as a crossover. For some reason most folks think wagons are beyond repulsive to look at here. Like my dad HATES wagons. He thinks the Buick Regal/ Opel(Vauxhall) Insignia wagon was ugly. It was so beautiful though. But wagons for me still suffer with how low they are. SUVs are practical but inefficient and expensive and sedans cheaper and efficient but less practical. Always thought CUVs were a good bridge. It would be a boring world uf only crossovers existed and it's the same for sedans. Together the make a car line up more interesting. A line up of nothing but cars sounds awfully boring . Lots of generalizing was done as automobiles come in all sizes and powertrains and options. This was just my experiences and opinions. I'm very very sorry for the essay I'm asking you to read and any poor writing and grammar. 😬
