to be fair, in general terms the ingredients in a gloss finish are more durable than matte paint, and that durability usually means more stiffness in that paint. It isn't crazy to consider that perhaps gloss finishes would add to the overall rigidity of the racquet. It may be minor, but it could definitely be a thing and would be worth testing.
@rossterry8103 Жыл бұрын
Matte finishes are less flexible due to the additive, usually silica or talc, and generally a bit thicker too.

I saw this video and went out and bought one because I liked the old one I bought in 1995. My old 6.1 18x16 string pattern is a plow through beast. This new beast with the 18x20 string pattern still has great plow through, stability, and power. The denser string pattern, however, tames the beast a bit and gives the racquet more control and predictability over the old "Edberg" version which is a welcome improvement. This racquet is definitely superior to the Pro Staff 97 and the RF 97. While its specs are nearly identical to the RF 97, it doesn't feel as heavy or cumbersome as the RF 97.

The finish of the racquet has no bearing on the feel of the racquet. The gloss finish is for two things: It looks good on TV and It distinguishes it from the retail version. Another thing, the stiffness of the frame is mostly reliant upon how the graphite is "laid-up" in the frame. You often hear the term "lay-up" in the forums if your speaking with someone that's a stringer or in the industry. So, thinner beam doesn't necessarily mean the racquet flexes more and a wider beam doesn't always indication of a stiffer frame (think Wilson Clash). So, when they change the direction of the graphite fibers in certain areas of the frame, this can increase or decrease flex in that area of the frame. Also, notice that the balance point while strung is very low. This indicates that most of the weight of the racquet is below the balance point, which is kind of obvious, but some believe that to make the swing weight increase, that the majority of the weight needs to be in the head of the frame. Not true.

The (original) Classic 6.1 Pro Staff has an RA of 72, which is much, much more stiffer than this new racket . . . and I don't think the RA being 61 has anything to do with the revamp of this new 6.1 . . it's just a coincidence because. the Pro Staff's of 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 4.2, 6.5, 6.1 and 7.5 are the projected advertisement of the "swing level" of the racket , not the "stiffness". Has everybody forgot how the older Pro Staff line even works?
@tenniscounterspin14312 жыл бұрын
Indeed, the Wilson stiffness rating is goes from stiffer (e.g. 3.9si) to flexier (e.g. 7.5si). 6.1 has nothing to do with 61 RA. The same way 3.9si does not mean 39RA.
@tz18432 жыл бұрын
@@tenniscounterspin1431 No . . . again you are relating the numerical value (3.9 and 7.5) to "Stiffness" and not "Swing index" i don't want to type this all at again, so here is a copy/paste of how it works: "Swing Index" Actually . . . Originally "SI" standed for "Swing Index" and there was a picture of a little guy swinging a racquet sometimes on the side of the racquet throat. . . . . the is the reason why the Wilson 4.2 (SI) Prostaff had more power and required less of a hard swing than the Prostaff 6.0 (SI) . . . Now, what's screwing this all up is that there was a video also of the Wilson Graphite Aggressor, and it did say it had an 8.5 SI . . but it was spelled out as it being a "Stiffness Index" . . . which is just confusing the entire public . . . .even if you Google the SI gets conflicting responses . . .but at least you have even Tennis Warehouse conveying that SI stands for "Swing Index". Another reason why it can't be Stiffness Index is because that the Graphite Aggressor was an 8.5 on the Stiffness Index but it's a Graphite -Composite and is way softer than the Wilson 6.1 that is Graphite-Kevlar an much, much stiffer than the Graphite Aggressor . . . but the Graphite Aggressor has less power than the Wilson 6.1 making it higher on the "Swing Index" . . . . . Basically the (SI Swing Index) is telling you how "powerful" the racquet is . . . . the best example would be why the old Wilson Profile 2.7 is way, way , way more powerful than the 6.0 or 6.1 or basically anything else in the Wilson line . . . . and it's stiffer than anything else as well . . . . but that wouldn't make any sense if 2.7 was it's Stifness Index. . . . think about it. Sorry for the rambling, but I really hate that everybody is getting this wrong.
