2021 XC - Clovis Invite - Boys Championship (Race 6)

This is the amazing Boys Championship race (Race 6) from the 2021 Clovis Cross Country Invitational, held October 9 at the 5,000 meter Woodward Park course in Fresno, CA. The Clovis Invitational has become a key stop for many teams, serving as a preview of the CIF State meet later in the year. The Championship races are exciting due to the depth of competition, and the 2021 race took it to another level. The nation's top Boys team, Newbury Park, came into Clovis after a record-setting performance at Woodbridge. Watch as they take the top four spots and essentially shatter their own Woodward course team time record set in 2019 at the CIF State meet. Newbury senior Colin Sahlman had the third fastest time ever on the course, and his teammates Lex and Leo Young had the 5th and 6th fastest times (they also had the top two times for Junior boys). Twenty-two boys broke 15:30. Key results:

A few things: 1.Daniel Appleford moved up like a mad man in that race (esp. mile 1 to 2) 2. Chris Caudillo would be a sub 14:30 guy if he were on Newbury Park. 3. Aaron Sahlman debuted a 14:43 on this course. State meet’s gonna be big for him.

Really wish Rheinhardt or Gavin Sherry or someone from out east came to race these guys, like how Daschbach did with Nico. The only time we're really gonna see NP go up against someone in their league will be nationals, and even then thats if those guys decode to attend

Would love to see Rheinhardt Harrison get some races with these guys. There is no one in FL that can push him. It would elevate his racing another level and we could see what he can do. He's committed to Oregon next year so he'll be facing the west coast elites eventually. But it would be fun to see him go on a HS 5k course. Maybe nationals.

They’re actually really useful in the western XC courses that are super hard packed and often have road included. Most California and Arizona cross country races are more like road than traditional XC

TERRIBLE RACE ANNOUNCING. PERIOD. The announcer should be professionally objective and neutral WHILE adding "color" to commentary. The "color" requires knowing names, schools,programs, coaches, etc of ALL participants to provide balanced and meaningful commentary. If an announcer did not prepare to provide the details, then they should at least announce name and school of EACH ATHLETE, not exclusively a particular school to the EXCLUSION of literally ALL of the other schools. VERY ABUSIVE AND DISCOURAGING, AND BLATANTLY DISRESPECTFUL to all the athletes, coaches, schools, and communities. He should be mortified at himself, and hopefully he was chastised enough to at least apologize and do much better going forward.
