I missed the part where you initially take the oil drain plug trying to guess where the first 10-15 seconds of oil is going! It shoots out a lot further than my previous Ford. I installed a Fomoto plug and now it drains straight down . I very highly suggest getting one. .

Yeah, I skipped that part and just showed it out....lol...unfortunately I found it shot further than the 10 inches I planned. It wad warm oil so it went about 14 inches, I mat look at that plug swap also...

I use Mobil -1 Truck & SUV formula 5W-30 in my 2021 F-350 Godzilla. It meets or exceeds that Ford spec . Says so on the back of the bottle. I also use a Motorcraft FL-820-S filter. I’ll never 👎 put a synthetic blend in my 7.3.

@natalieandbear unfortunately the 2020 to 2022 early 7.3 zillas do have a higher lifter, cam failure, also plagued with misfires on pistons. It was due to machining issues. My 22 blew at 6200 miles. 23 and up the issue has allegedly been fixed. My 24 7.3 has 4k on it no issues so far.

I typically run what they recommend, but full synthetic Motorcraft would be a great option.

Same truck in Louisiana filter/oil ran 40$ fo-mo--co, Changed @ 1500 mile then drove from Lafayette, LA to Houston to Ft Hood to Vernon to Clovis AFB to Ft Sumner to Castle Rock like a bat out of hell driving three days for 1500 miles getting a solid 15 mpg. Cruise control on the flats, pedal on the hills. Engine does real good on hills at 60 but revs excessively at 80 plus, waste of gas. It's a keeper! I'm naming it Crazy Horsepower.

1:23 most of your oem oils come from Warren oils as does Walmarts super tech, Amazon oil and even Costco Kirkland brand. My thing is there’s zero standard for semi synthetic. It could be 1% it could be 50% and Ford is buying it from the cheapest distributor possible. I know it’s probably over kill but everything I drive gets Amsoil. It’s the only oil that’s not even dark at 5,000 miles, it’s really amazing stuff. I would also like to mention Magnuson moss act. The dealer would have to prove your oil caused a failure and as long as you haven’t skipped an oil change it’s unlikely they’ll give you a hard time.

I used the Motorcraft for my warranty period on my now old truck, and never had an issue with it. I have been on synthetic now for years and years and I can say that the synthetic does hold up better especially on extended, either intentional or unintentional, change intervals. I also stick with a brand of filter that makes most of the filter brands out there, Wix. I also fill my new filter up always, as it does make the time the engine is pressurizing with new oil much quicker and as such less wear on the moving parts. Quick question, is the drain plug a metal-to-metal seal, I saw what looked to be a small o-ring rubber type on it but it does not look like you can change it. Thanks for the video good info.

Do you still feel strongly about motorcraft? That oil is known for the failure in the 7.3 motor. Has anyone ever suggested to switch to a 100% synthetic oil?

In my experience I've never had any issues with the Motorcraft oil, in my 6.0 7.3 diesel or the 6.4. I've ran it because if the engine did fail, which in the 7.3 gas the engine failed, the others zero issue. They could not blame me for it. I'm not either way about it. 2 out of 3 I'd still run it.

Appreciate the video. Maybe next time list the part numbers on your description. Shaky camera looking at filter # & specific SKU # on oil. Totally agree about not wanting to give Ford any reason to void warranty if problems come up.

New 6.2 owner here. Pretty sure the last owner was Mobile 1 for a few oil changes, but when I took ownership I went to Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic Blend. Seems like the Boss likes it. I’ll probably change every 4000 miles.

Yeah, mobile is good for sure, but the engines like what ford put in them. The boss is a great motor. We have several at work 250k and they were not treated nicely.

Wrong oil for Ford 6.2 , your oil fill cap may say 5w20 but Ford back spec. all 6.2 to 5w30 for obvious reasons .

What is the zinc content of that motor craft oil?!!! I'd bet it has nowhere near enough zinc in it to protect those lifters and cams. most conventional car and truck oils have low zinc content 800 or lower ppm verses the 1100 found in conventional shell Rotella. these thin oils are bullshit used to raise gas mileage and that don't matter in a pulling truck! play with that thin low zinc oil all ya want, you'll find out that hard way. and i don't want to hear the catalytic convert bs about how the zinc will hurt it, i been running it in my ls 5.3 chevy for years with out one issue in my catalytic converter.

What people don't realize is the Ford specs is the bare minimum specs that they require. Is it the best for the engine ?Any oil can meet the weak Ford spec.

Did you mention that when you pull the drain plug the oil will shoot into the side of the trans cooler and create a nice fan shape spreading oil in all directions? Be ready for that.

Definitely check oil I took my 02 f350 7,3 to jiffy lube to change oil got home hooked up my 4 horse gooseneck to head to Wyoming from utah I got a funny feeling to check my oil was clear up on the dip stick went back the kid met me I told him I think there is to much oil in it he said yes you were one of the ones they forgot to reset their oil handle and put 22 quarts in it they did the same to a duramax just ahead of me did they call to warn me no if I had jumped on the freeway heading to Wyoming I would have ruined my engine n they would be buying me a New one but I would have been stranded I do my own oil changes now all synthetic

If you are just replacing the plug with the original, you shouldn't need yo change any of them out unless the old ones look damaged. If you are replacing it with the quick valve you can use all the parts it came with.

Seems like mine takes about 8.4 quarts on average to get to hole after letting sit 10 minutes or so

@98durangopack I just changed mine and 8 quarts did not get it all the way to full. It’s about 3/4 down the grid on the dipstick
