Great review. I picked up this exact vehicle 3 weeks ago and drove 1500 miles visiting colleges from Missouri through TN, GA, and SC before returning through the mountains of NC and eastern TN last week. I agree with the ride and interior quality comments. The vehicle was very stable and had limited lean on the mountain roads - very different from my previous LX570 and QX80 (granted it has a lower center of gravity). The infotainment takes getting used to but wasn’t bad - touch screen would help. There stereo is amazingly clear at high volumes. The massaging seats (you can easily feel it) made a huge difference for the long drive. The passing power was excellent, especially when I dropped to sport plus mode. I averaged 19.4mpg on the trip with a very heavy pedal on the interstates. The one thing I’ve noticed that is taking some getting used to (aside from the touchpad) , is how it accelerates from a stop, especially when trying to cross a busy highway. It seems to behave better in Sport or Sport+ mode in these situations. Otherwise the turbo or transmission seems to take a moment to collect itself. This is a minor thing that gives me no regrets on buying the vehicle. Lastly, the MSRP, with delivery, is $73,495, vs $72k mentioned in the video.

So, what are you averaging on a daily basis for mpg then? I mainly wanted to know if the performance is worth the extra money over the base which gets a lot of great features standard.

@@alucarus6 I’m at 19.0 mpg over the past ~800 miles of mixed driving with a semi- heavy foot. Still very happy. Great review, as always, Tom...... Was looking forward to your review on this.... Have to say this SUV is more than the sum of its numbers..... I look at it as a near luxury suv with increased performance over the standard model. I drove all the competition, this worked best for us and we'll be getting ours soon. Had a GLS a few years back. Great vehicle, but wanted something a little more under the radar this time and this fit the bill... have to say we were really impressed with the ability for the type S to be a comfortable car for loafing around, and with a turn of the dial, to being a tighter, more precise responding enthusiast car, all while getting your back massaged and your ears immersed in that amazing sound system. Most of the armchair critics haven't driven one, and don't realize numbers on paper aren't as important as the actual feel of the car......

As far as performance goes, the 2022 Type S is 600 pounds heavier than the prior generation MDX (and 200 pounds heavier than the 2022 regular MDX). Putting that into context, it will of course have better performance than the current, completely underpowered 2022 MDX, which is 400 pounds heavier than it's predecessor. Still, in the bigger scheme of things it's adequate power that won't blow your sock off.
@alucarus62 жыл бұрын
That's true, but the gearing of the new ten speed helps you not to notice it and the handling and looks of the new MDX outweigh anything on the previous gen, in my opinion. My wife has a 2020 and I've had a loaner 2022 a few times. It's definitely nicer.

Lol this MDX is way nicer inside and out. The current Pilot is outdated and has a cheap interior. The standard V6 MDX starts at only $50K. $55K with Tech package and $62K with Advance package. So really, the premium is only $5K to $12K depending on the package you select. @alucarus62 жыл бұрын
Once you start a family, hobbies have to take a back seat. Pun intended. I have a standard AWD base MDX on order which is still a 50k car. I'd love a type S, but it doesn't make sense to double or triple your car payment just for the engine and suspension. Type s is 20k more, but the base model is a much better value. Tom in your 2022 MDX Advance review you mentioned max cargo at 71.4 cu.ft. I would think its cargo potential is closer to a Mazda CX-9 than a Kia Telluride. @DrivenCarReviews2 жыл бұрын
I went on the Acura spec site. There are two figures for behind the first row, normal (71.4) and max (95.0). Part of it has to do with the floor behind the rear seats, dropped to the lowest level. I'll assume, the rest is made up by minimizing legroom for front passengers.
