TLX Type S is the biggest disappointment out of Acura since they originally discontinued the Type S back in 2008. It's such a damn shame as its a gorgeous looking car, but it's a porker with size/weight class.

The LT1 has 245 all season tires. You swap the rear wheels for 9.5” or wider wheels and wrap in 275+ tires Michelin or Nittos and traction is no longer an issue. Car is cheap and not a fit for everyone’s lifestyle… but 455 hp N/A from 6.2L with 6M or A10, RWD 3700 lbs, Alpha platform, translates to a tremendously satisfying, visceral, and fun ride. A properly “tired” LT1 woulda blasted both these cars out of the hole and made it even more embarrassing by the end. Sam let’s get the LT1 vs Mustang GT vs Scat Challenger or Charger. All murica would be awesome!!

Of course, this is still more of a fair comparison for the Acura and Genesis. The camaro will always pull on the top with its superior TQ/PWR. The curve is also more steady, shifts are quicker. It’s an actual sports car, genesis is a tuned for a commuter, shifts are mechanically forgiving, even in sport mode. A tune would refine it a bit

This is pretty much the same results I had once in my Chevy SS Sedan (LS3) and an Audi RS3. On the highway, those big V8s take in a lot of air and can stretch their legs. The Acura and the Genesis have the initial advantage, which is what sometimes makes them more fun on the streets. By the time the V8s get into their power band, you've already broken a few laws.

It was such a rare car and a little anonymous that when I would crank it up at a gas station, I'd sense at least 3 necks turning in my direction as no one was expecting a Corvette V8 (LS3) bark coming from what looks like a rental car special. The only reason I was ok with giving mine up was that it was an automatic and I wanted a manual before electric vehicles make them all but scarce. There might be a good chance of you finding a well cared for used version, as it was generally a car bought by enthusiasts that took care of the car (mine had 37K miles on it after 6 years). The manual version is a little more rare, but would be great fun.

He kept trying to keep up, but just didn't have the power to keep up. He was quick up to about 60, but then I would walk him to anything above those speeds. There are other things that matter more than speed. It's not like I'm gonna be racing people. With a Type S I will still be able to smoke more than 80% of the cars on the road if I need to. It's still a fast car but the slowest in its class. I bet you it's also the most reliable and good looking along with the Lexus

Absolutely, reliability > everything when it comes to Honda/Acura. Launch mode in the Type S only let's you get to 2000rpm, but I can use it non stop at every light vs my bosses Alpina B8 that needs a while to cool off before he can use his launch mode again.

Even back when I had my 03 Acura TL Type-S that didn’t support it like they should but for it to only have 260hp and you put a cold air intakes on it. That car was pretty quick. I don’t understand why they didn’t make the TLX lighter. It would either beat the Genesis or be right there with it with the current hp

The 2022 and earlier Civic Type R certainly punches above its "weight class", but with FWD MT, a 0.5s slower 0-60 and 0.4s slower 1/4 than the G70 3.3T it wouldn't be much of a race. Perhaps the 2023 with 315hp would made it interesting.

@@davidpaulin I also think the TLX got a little bit faster after the break-in period. This seems to be the case for a lot of Honda's in recent years. They "open up" a lot more than other brands after the break-in period.

@@iforyou that's true, C&D found the Accord got dramatically quicker after break-in. New it did 60 in 5.7 sec, and after break-in it did 5.3 sec. Quarter-mile was 14.3 @100mph, and after break-in was 13.9 @104mph.

Not out of the hole unfortunately but top end for sure. These turbo 6's are vicious out of the hole, especially with awd. Soo,..in real world street situations you're going to be at a disadvantage against these boosted gremlins unless you're on the highway. Stall is an option that can help the Camaro but not sure about the 10 speed on the GM side. I know there is a couple for the 10R80 in the Mustang. Cheers.

The stock all season Goodyear's are a 20+ year old design...that sucked when it was new. With better rubber it would dominate from any speed. The 0-60 with rubber that doesn't suck is around 4 flat on the Camaro

I've been beaten too many times by these types of cars from a dig, and with different rubbers.. especially when conditions aren't just right or any amount of moisture on the road. I also had some time in a stalled 10R80 and it is awesome. @@SirtubalotTX interesting, maybe the 6th gen is harder to launch than I remember. I haven't driven one in a few years, I have a 4th gen with 243 heads and a very mild cam t56 car, it launches easily and consistently. I can cut 1.8 60 foots on modern street tires (Potenza Sport). But solid axles and softer suspension = always easier to launch. I couldn't even imagine how a stalled 10 speed would shift, they perform amazing (once the revs are up) stock, the stall with a street radial would be insane.

As a 10 speed LT1 owner I can tell you those other two choices really are just fancy commuter cars vs a real muscle car. They’d probably lose to the v6 & 2.0 turbo 6th gen Camaros too

I think the TLX is a great looking car, but I'd take the G70 all day, any day. I've owned a few Camaros over the years and love them, but at middle age, I'll take the luxury sedans. Truth be told, the Stinger would be my pick.

I wonder why the Type-S is so much heavier than the Genesis. Both are around the same dimensions, AWD, and the Genesis has a bigger engine by 300cc. That 300 pound difference is a mystery to me.

It’s the extra sheet metal to make it longer so it could mimic the look of a longitudinal mounted rear wheel drive vehicle even though it’s a front wheel drive based transverse mounted engine. If you look under the hood you’ll see a lot of empty space between the firewall and where the engine is.

All nice cars, the Genesis and Acura way better daily drivers and more luxurious but what a performance bang for the buck the LT1 is, put some stickier tires on it for better launches and watch out

I had 2017 Camaro SS with the same 6.2L and I wish I never got rid of it! Late summer of 2022 I test drove a Kia Stinger GT2 (basically the same as the Genesis from what I'm aware of) and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Very impressive tbh, but it certainly just did not compare to overall power/performance of the Camaro. Sure, the AWD helps massively from a dead stop, but even most Stinger owners admit the RWD version is faster and sportier than the AWD. Anyways, point I'm making is these drag races are fun as heck but are so far away from being practical as far as real world performance. If your looking for the best car for fun and fast, camaro all day. If you need a functional back seat though, look elsewhere 😆

I'd have to disagree with you. The genesis is faster than the Kia but to add to that the interior is much nicer as well it's not even a comparison and with a simple plug and play tune the g70 walks scat packs and Camaros all day more comfortable as well

Yes of course with tune/aftermarket pieces etc, ANY car can be faster than stock but that's not what I had in front of me at the time. I haven't driven a G70 so I can't comment on that. All I know is I didn't get the pure performance in the Stinger that I did with my old SS. This summer I actually picked up another '23 SS 1LE and it's just like I remember... EXCEPT I don't like the Recaro seats in it. Guess my f** @$$ just doesn't like getting squeezed all that much 😂 Again, I actually think all 3 of these cars in video are awesome in their own right. Pick whichever you like the most. Or better yet, pick the one you can get the best deal for!

Coming from the perspective of living in the Pacific NW where it seems to rain 8 months a year, I wouldn't even consider a 2WD vehicle. I also prefer a vehicle to be quick from 0-speed limit, I'm not too interested in vehicles that really start hooking up during extra-legal speeds. The TLX Type S is appealing to me!

Sam, you should try to find someone with a JB4 Stinger 3.3tt awd... I have a Stinger 3.3 awd with a jb4 (I only run map 1 or map 2) and I'm curious to see how it would stack up against some of these cars. You could do runs with the tune on and runs without. Its only 1 click to change between different maps and stock. I've seen your other videos with stock 3.3 Stingers. Always makes me curious how much of a difference map1 or 2 looks like. You can feel it, that's for sure.

Camaro was a foregone conclusion, but the TLX vs G70 contest was interesting. That tune makes the Type S a much more compelling option. Honda/Acura needs to take note and up their game accordingly, so we can get that performance with a warranty. (Edit: just read the owner's comment re: downpipe & exhaust only. Even better news, as Acura could certainly bump the boost up a tad, etc.)

The Genesis G70 is the best option, at least for me. Elegant, fun, spacious & doesn’t look gimmicky. It can be a daily drive, a weekend toy, a family sedan, business friendly for making professional entrances at business events and everything in between. Camaro is a track inspired sporty coupe while the Acura looks sporty and too cartoonish like a ricer/high school/college kid’s toy with mods too goofy to be taken seriously. G70 is definitely the most mature vehicle in this lineup to live with.
