The World Affairs Council has hosted the regional competition for Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) since its launch in the mid-2000s. AWQ is the only national competition of its kind focused on global issues, history, and culture.
Each year, area high schools can send two teams of four students to the regional competition in Feb/March, held in Louisville, KY. Teams compete for the chance to participate, all expenses paid, in the national competition in Washington D.C.
With students back in school, we wanted to re-introduce the competition with a Q&A info session, open to all teachers, parents and students interested to learn more. Our featured speaker, Coach Esther Tamplin, has coached for DuPont Manual High School for over a decade. Coach Tamplin started as a parent-coach for the school when her two sons attended Manual, and have since taken a team to the national competition multiple time and have consistently placed in the top 10.
Coach Tamplin shares her secrets for prepping her students to be competitive in both regional and national competitions, and why she thinks AWQ is such an important competition for our students to navigate our increasingly complex world.
