Talking Cars is my Saturday morning Car Talk. Lovely car, but it is hard to believe that $60K is the new $40K.

GM now makes a 3-year subscription to its OnStar service mandatory for all GMC and Buick vehicles as well as some Cadillac models. This $1500 charge is in addition to the vehicle price. So unless you were already going to buy 3 years of OnStar, do not buy any GMC, Buick, or affected Cadillac models.

Gotta love the 3.6, they’ve become very reliable and powerful nowadays

My old 14 Ford Fusion hybrid (same gen) had a physical key and I remember testing this (for hyper-miling purposes in the winter when wanting to delay engine warmup down a hill). I was also annoyed that it wouldn’t start again, however once shifting to Neutral it would start, then you could shift to drive. It’s pretty much true for all cars. Shift to neutral then restart. I actually bought a 2.0 Ecoboom Lincoln MKZ and that was a MISTAKE. Later had to turn it off at low rpm to avoid it misfiring, especially in traffic, but down hill. And that would stop and start fine with the push buttons (utilizing neutral as much as possible)

I washed the engine bay of my '87 Supra in the fall. Not long after we got some freezing temps. There must have been water trapped in the brake cable sleeve because the accelerator would freeze in place and wouldn't slow down with my foot off the brake. I would have to tap it to break the ice to get it to release. Once I tapped it and it stayed stuck on the floor! I couldn't take it out of gear without it red-lining. Glad I was able to turn off the car!

Why all this screwing around with the gear selector? Complication for complication's sake.

5:26 I would also note that the design is also a magnet for spilled drinks and crumbs of all kinds. I really hope it's well tested because if any liquid can get in there, those are going to he a huge warranty issue.
@fuelon2 жыл бұрын
5:25 doesn't it display the PRNDL in the center display? If you're trying to put it in drive but you actually get reverse, you can quickly just do the other one after seeing the gear selected in the screen

Regarding turning off the car and restarting, All automotive transmission vehicles since the 1960s have neutral safety switches that prevent starting the engine of the vehicle is in gear. If the engine is turned off while the vehicle is in motion, it can be restarted while the vehicle is in motion by placing the transmission in neutral.

I don't understand why you kept mentioning how the Enclave kind of sits between the Sorrento and the Yukon, but then you didn't bother to compare this to the Telluride and Palisade, which are also right in between. What gives?
@johnverlautz60252 жыл бұрын
I agree that the Palisade and Telluride are the obvious comparison. Borderline full sized...
@LP-sp4sf2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it is because the Palisade and Telluride are far superior, top-rated vehicles so not really comparable. In that sense, the Enclave is more comparable to the Pathfinder, Sorento and maybe Honda Pilot. CR's rating for Enclave is 63 vs. 97 for the Telluride.

For the hybrids and turning off the engine by accident, what about shifting into Neutral and trying to restart there? Or do hybrids not have Neutral?
@VeganRod2 жыл бұрын
If you’d put the car in neutral, it would have started while still moving. I think.
@gianfrancoa2 жыл бұрын
Most of automatics (non hybrids) can be restarted on the go when you put it in neutral

I also thought of the Toyota - Lexus issue of a few decades ago. I know they whitewashed it, but one of the victims was a state trooper and his brakes were worn completely down by the time he crashed, so I don't think it was just his fault. I'm glad to see carmakers have done something to fix this, although it would have been better sooner rather than later.

Looking at the interior of the Buick, I can't help but to think how much more useful it would be as a family vehicle if instead of a 3rd row that gets used sometimes, it had only 2 rows and a bigger cargo area. I guess that goes for many 3 row SUVs. As far as the shifter, I was surprised at how intuitive and how much I liked the "turn-stalk" style shifter I used on a rental A-class Mercedes. It didn't look cool, but its functionality was really good and it frees up quite a bit of space in the center console area.
@whatdafrog2 жыл бұрын
I have an Enclave and the 3rd row has never been up. It's a flat bottom from the 2nd row back. Kinda like you describe, but with the option of having a 3rd row when necessary.

Is it possible to modify the volume on the introduction song. When connected on TV, it is too harsh and it hurts the ears. My animals get shocked. Maybe a bit more mellow music will be better.

I sat through this entire video waiting waiting to see you know E if they were even going to mention intimention How troublesome the Buick enclave has been over the years. I think someone wsomeone who forks out $60000 on a brand new S UV probably cares more about about it's likeliness to fall apart rather than the shape of the shifter Or the alleyway between the captain's chairs?? Those are things you notice during the test drive but but how Or the alleyway between the captain's chairs?? Those are things you notice during the test drive But the likeliness of of it lasting Longer than it's payments it's not as apparent. As a wholesaler I can accurately accurately say that that this car in all of its generations have some major power train flaws that not only affect its reliability but it's also reflected in its resale Value. People tune in to Consumer Reports for the important details that matter but watching this shows they are no better than any other car magazine with 2 zoomers and a Boomer Going on and on about shifters and and touch screens. I remember back in the 1919 nineties when I 1st started reading Consumer Reports. I would roll my eyes or snicker girl every time they would include a tiny picture picture with with the caption "tiny horn buttons hidden in the spokes of the wheel of the wheel make It difficult to find in a panic "but imagine now if 2/3 of the article was them dwelling on the tiny horn buttons it's and never mentioning permentioning reliability.🙄 Do better CR!

Show me a mid-sized CUV in this segment that drives better. And don't point me to Korean junk with the worst customer service in the industry! We're well off and can afford to drive anything but we keep a Buick Enclave Avenir in the garage for road trips. There's a reason why the wealthy ALWAYS drive Buicks.
