I have this same truck with the 2.8 dmax. I currently get at the time of this post. 30-34 mpg and this is the bison version. I had to fly to Missouri and drive it back to Florida. I got mine at the last minute because I found out GM was getting rid of the diesel option on the new 23’s. Even though I the new 23’s look badass . Anywho the diesel version is great over all I think both inside and out. Great video man!

Thank you, and congrats on your truck! I envy your MPGs.... I have about 2k miles on it now and average ~25 mpg. Did you do anything to improve the fuel economy? I sure hope it lasts - I'm very happy with it and agree it's all around a great choice.

@@kytodd7802 right from the dealer I stopped at a parts store and swapped out the factory air filter for a K&N filter and got hot shots EDT fuel treatment. My truck currently has a tad over 5k mikes on it. That’s all I have done to it at this point. Really can’t do much without voiding the warranty. But once it’s gone then I’ll be doing some extra mods to maybe even put a EPA compliant tuner on it. Iam not a big fan of “rolling coal” as I see that as a waste of fuel.

Very thorough video. I'm in the market for a ZR2 or Z71 with the 2.8. Would like to see someone share the same data with a deleted and tuned setup. From what I am seeing online they're getting closer to 30 and up on a diet. Either way it will be a good jump for me. I have a modified Silverado lifted on 33s and I run E15 in it. It averages 13-15mpg. I do mostly highway driving so the savings will be a little bit each fill up. If I did the math correctly and being conservative 25mpg for the ZR2 I would save almost $500 a year. (15k miles) If I can squeeze that fuel mileage to hit 30mpg it's almost a $1,000. Well worth it to me.

Thanks Matthew, sounds like you have a nice truck - I like the size of the Colorado, but it's not pulling anything close to your Silverado! I saw similar results for the Z71 (30 mpg) from Repair Geek. A Z71 might have been the way to go for me (mpg, towing, cost) though I do enjoy taking the ZR2 off road. I have dreamed of a delete & tune... but don't fully understand what I'd be getting into for such a late model year. I have very limited experience with modern diesels, seems like a lot of ECU spoofing. I mainly want it to last.. Oil catch can is next on my list, will keep an eye out for good tunes and mods to boost MPG.

If you plan on keeping the truck long term get a proven oil catch can these engines are notorious for oil mist coming back into the engine I have a 2018 and I bought one immediately after I noticed enough oil by my turbo to look like a small leak

Thanks for the tip - Based on an internet search it appears you're not alone. I picked up a Mann / Hummel from Sasquatch but have not installed it yet... Hoping it doesn't cause an Engine code. I'll design something to mount it this weekend and video of the installation.

Nice truck. Looks like it has wheel spacers. Your tires stick out past the wheel wells. Mine don't! Looks good!

Unless the grar shifter was changed for 22, yours has been changed from the "t" style all previous 2nd gens have
