I currently own a ZR2 Colorado (2018) (73,000 miles) and it has been rock solid. Love the truck! It handles like a sports car, a beast off-road, and plenty of power. My sister has a 2007 Nissan Titan SV 4x4 with 156,000 miles. Amazing truck! We use it for hay, gravel, towing horses… Super good at all of these things. (We have overloaded it with hay A LOT and it’s just perfect). Rock solid trucks and are gems in the truck world.

The biggest issue I had when I had an F-150 with a 5.0 was the windshield washer fluid line would clog causing washer fluid to not spay out of the nozzle onto the windshield. Apparently that was a common issue on the 5.0 trucks. Never had any other major issues besides that one with the engine.

Beware….some of these prices are SCAMS used to hook you in to get u to the dealership! Read the FINE PRINT. The dealers get u in and then ALWAYS add on at least $5,000 worth of crap (window tint, windshield protection, paint protection, ceramic coating, theft protection) that they say CANNOT be deducted. Now that great deal is $5,000-$8,000 higher!! This happened to me in at Central Houston Nissan.

I had a 2018 ZR2 Diesel. The truck was quiet and smooth and always impressed my off-road but the fuel mileage always confused me. Bone stock it averaged 21-22 mpg. I checked mileage religiously and hit 25 mpg only once when I had a tail wind! Where it impressed me was I eventually put a 5" lift and 35 inch tires and it could still squeak out 20 mpg. So while stock it wasn't much better than the gas V6, in typical diesel form it does it's best when working harder. A gasser with 35's would get about only get about 14 mpg.

Unless you KNOW that it has been done, if a Colorado with the 2.8L Duramax has more than 100K miles on it, you should immediately replace the timing belt. The 2.8L Duramax is a version of the VM Motori 2.8L CRD sold in the U.S. in the 2005-2006 Jeep Liberty. Both engines are "interference" engines--if the timing belt breaks, there can be severe engine damage. The bad news: timing belt replacement is about $1,500 if done by an auto shop. Like all MY2007+ diesels, the 2.8L Duramax is prone to emission system problems, especially if the vehicle is driven a lot in stop and go traffic or is idled a lot.
@ramaswamynarayanaswamy4806
@ramaswamynarayanaswamy4806 Жыл бұрын
Toyota's 4.7 does not have emissions but it also relies on a timing belt that should be changed. Do not go by a Toyota by reliability alone- if a timing belt is not changed, then when it breaks , it will grenade the 4.7. Engine replacement is very expensive.

@aerynlovell4754
@aerynlovell4754 Жыл бұрын
Just because a truck has an aftermarket intake/exhaust doesn't mean it has been abused. After buying my 2016 Canyon in Ontario, I had to downshift to second gear to climb the steep mountain roads. Even in Alberta, I had to downshift to 4th gear to climb a steep hill on my drive to work. After replacing the stock muffler with a Cherrybomb Vortex, I only had to downshift to 5th gear to climb the same hill, and my fuel economy improved by about 2 MPG. I am hoping that a K&N intake will allow my truck to climb hills in 6th gear. Performance upgrades are necessary if you want your truck to operate at peak efficiency, and it gives you better fuel economy.

I just picked up an '06 F-250 regular cab long bed 4x4 with the hated 5.4 3V for $5200. Only has 124k on it and very little rust (surprising for being in the rust belt). There's zero valvetrain noise. Already had new tires, plugs and coils, brakes, and cat back exhaust. It needed exhaust manifolds (broken studs), a fuel tank (had a leak), shifter repair (shifter sloppy), and I replaced ALL of the fluids. The old fluids looked great though, I just wanted to have a baseline for my ownership records. I'm having the driver's seat refoamed and reupholstered and just picked up a tonneau cover. All in, I'm into it for under $9k, including tagging and titling. Even if the 5.4 takes a dump it's cheaper to replace the engine than to buy a new truck.

Same happened to me at 60k. Thankfully I have a lifetime warranty. I had a completely different dealer experience than yours though. You have to make them drive it. This part is made of the wrong material and to my knowledge, they haven’t changed the material of said part.

I bought an 05 Suburban Z71 4x4 for just $2300 running and driving. I also bought an 07 Yukon 4x4 for $2500 running and driving. Excellent deals on reliable classic GM vehicles that still get decent fuel economy for their size and are very capable. Suburban will be my overland vehicle and Yukon will mainly be a pavement princess Track Hawk fighter. LS power baby!!!

Old trucks have much better visibility. I went from a 2010 gmc Sierra to a 2022 tundra. It is really hard to tell where the hood ends. The front windshield is tiny and the rear window, too. Imma probably trade it in.

My friend who drives an old truck, it's a 1987 said that the dashboard on my new Lightning is huge compared to his and that it makes it harder to drive. I rely on the blindspot marker indicators on my side mirror probably too much because of the blind spots in my truck and its a 2023 😂

That Ram has been wrecked because the passenger fender is about 2 inches too far and the bumper and grill aren't getting along apparently. 3.5k and the Titan will be sold unless the bidding kicks off.

The $25k price point is a no-brainer: 2017 F150 5.0 4WD. I see both quad cab FX4 models and single cab shortbed models for that price right now. That’s the first gen of the aluminum/lightweight body, it comes with CarPlay, and it has the excellent 6R80 automatic transmission so you don’t have to deal with 10-speed gear hunting. That trans, the 4wd system, and the 5.0 are rock solid reliable, and the alumitrucks are much less susceptible to rust than anything GM and Dodge has ever made.

just as an option for $25k - Ridgeline. It has roomier cabin, definitely worse mpg than diesel, but in overall - good purchase for the money (and you could find better year and/or better equipped for the same money as ZR2 Colorado)

the 2021 F150 with the 2.7 is falling below $40k now, and even in Lariat trim, is low $40k-ish. Supposed to be a very reliable engine; not gonna have the tow/payload capabilities of larger engines, but still starting to look like a decent buy!

Frankly, each one of these trucks are good to have, it just depends on you will be using them for, the titan is a good truck for you high schoolers or college kids, the rebel is a good all around truck and in great condition for being 4 years old, and the zr2 is perfect for going off-road and a daily driver for around town, as for me, because of the work that i do, i would choose the rebel, i haul parts to paint and body shops along with a few mechanics in the west texas area and sometimes i pull a trailer with average weight of 6-8k pounds once or twice a week with my 2019 ram 2wd quad cab 1500

@ramaswamynarayanaswamy4806

Most of them have a tick not because of the lifters but because of the exhaust manifolds breaking off. However, usually when the "real" hemi tick happens with the lifters, it usually is catastrophic to the engine.

My 2018 ZR2 w/v6 is still kicking and I mean to keep her for a long time. I would caution those seeking one of their own to pay attention to the DSSV shocks. If they go they will run you between 500 and 600 bucks each. (still less expensive than King) Look at the shocks to see if they look like they have oil on them or if they're super clean. I've had 1 rear fail and I think my fronts are about due (123k mi)

I feel like its such a mistake to get rid of V8's. Harder working turbo 4's and 6's arent going to last nearly as long so the cost to own these trucks with turbo powered smaller engines is going to go up. Replacing turbos, etc. is expensive. Back in the day the saying was "There's no replacement for displacement". I hate the direction things are going. I'll keep my GMC Sierra SLT with the 6.0 liter Vortec Max engine. So, for new trucks anyway, we're paying more for something that won't last as long. Thoughts?
