this car wasn't made to be a performance vehicle, its design is to be the daily driver car for someone who loves challengers but can't afford the V8. not everyone is rich enough for the V8

People complain about the SXT and GT Challengers having a V-6. I owned both a Camaro IROC/Z (5.7) and a Mustang 5.0. Those V-8's put out around 225hp and that was condidered alot back then. The Pentastar engines are rated a 305hp and get decent gas milage compared to the gas guzzling R/T's. I owned a 2016 Scat Pack for four years and would never buy another. Constant engine ticking, defective rear camera and the U/Connect (8.4 inch) had glitches galore. Say what you want about the Pentastar engine but they're more reliable than the V-8's.

Sadly, this review does a disservice to potential GT (and SXT) buyers. Dodge also offers the GT trim in the Charger and Durango--and even in the now-discontinued Grand Caravan--but they aren't trying to create world-beating "grand tourers!" That said, for someone drawn to 2-door retro styling, plenty of creature comforts, the added assurance of AWD, and the efficiency of a traditional-but-reliable V6, the Challenger GT deserves at least a test drive. As for the harsh ride over bumps, I suspect the GT may be outfitted with a heavy-duty suspension for tauter handling. If that strikes some buyers as a negative, the SXT trim is likely the better choice.

@@mcm95403 That's a good thought, but since I wrote that comment (3 months ago), I have confirmed at Dodge's website that the GT comes with standard "Performance Steering and Suspension." The SXT does not.

I'm driving a '22 GT Plus right now as a long term loaner. I just drove it to Vegas and back from San Diego and i thought the performance was very good. It had good acceleration and shifted really smooth. The interior is nice and roomy and looks good without being overdone. The car came with a lot of options i find useful without being excessive. The only zonk i have is the loose steering. At high speeds it purred along smoothly without hesitation but i have to admit, i was slightly afraid to go faster than 95ish because the steering didn't feel as responsive as i would've liked. It put a slight damper on my fun with it. I still had a great time driving it. Its one of those cars you name and feel like you have a relationship with. The nastolgia from the 60's and 70's comes back alive with this car and not in a forced cartoonish way. It just feels like it's part of the family. I know that everyone wants that V8 but honestly, the V6 has PLENTY of power and the shocker???? I averaged between 25-30mpg's while doing an average of 85mph! You're not going to get that in the V8 but you will get a huge increase on your insurance and gas costs. This car is reasonably priced for what you get. The gas mileage makes it a great daily driver for someone who wants a littlw more flare and personality than a suv. Aside from the loose steering and somewhat stiff seats, i think it's a winner and i intend on purchasing one of my very own.

I have a 2018 and here is what i love about it - AWD. I live in the north where we get snow and all kinds of bad winter weather. This super heavy land whale awd car handles like a BEAST in like 4in snow. While all the other RWD versions would be abandoned at the bottom of a hill, I would cruise up it like nothing happened. It is the perfect winter beater

As a 18 challenger gt owner (awd) my challenger is great in the snow in Colorado its definitely not slow the v6 gets down once it rolls through all the gears it takes off mine is the up scale model leather heated/cooled seat streeing wheel alpine audio sunroof the pentastar is a great engine they make superchargers for it and a twin turbo kit and forged internals for the engine it really is ment to daily drive it really is a good car if i wanted a v8 i would of got one but this ones perfect for me

So, I would say this a matter of personal perspective: Just like Einstein discovered that time is relative to a person's location, so too is the experience of the V6 Challenger. Case in point: I drove a Lezbaru Forester for many years, and while that car is immensely impressive in the snow, it basically sucks for 99% of the rest of the year. Moving from a frumpy four-cyclinder to a kick-ass V6.....dude, light years. That's my story. 😀

The main difference is you aren't driving this car in a situation where it would be better than both the mustang and the Camaro. I have seen the sxt and gt AWD drive very well in the snow and it looks quite fun. I'd like to see either a Camaro or mustang handle snow and ice. Neither has an awd option. Plus you are driving essentially the lowest tier of interiors for that car, the upgrade gives you a lot of leather and other creature comforts. Not a dodge fan boy, but your review seems overly harsh. Also, I think that the challenger looks better than the Camaro and certainly the mustang. We all have our own opinions.

You need to drive a GT with the good suspension, 4-piston Brembo's and Super Track Pack. My 19 GT handled much better than my 18 5.7 Shaker and also stopped better. It will also cruise at 30 mpg at 65, and almost 40 mpg at 55. The GT is about 200 pounds lighter on the front end and it makes it a GREAT handling car.

Exactly this. I've got a 2023 GT with all that and it was only 2 grand cheaper than the 2023 RT but mine has a better hood and sunroof that the RT I was looking at. Mine has the Alpine 9 or 10 speaker audio system and the RT had the Harmon Kardon system. Mines RWD but I didn't want AWD.

Hi there! The first review where the car is actually driven and pushed to its limits! Bold, I would say, especially on factory all season crap tires. Thumb up! I’m the owner of the 2016 V6 SXT Plus and I’m looking around for a 2022/2023 V6 GT right now. And I have to tell you that your preconception about this car @Jubbal & Cars highly affected how this car is being percieved by you. First of all you should not consider it sports car, since it is too large and heavy for this. You compare it to Mustang and Camaro, but their current generations are much smaller and lighter than Challenger (Mustangs 9 inch shorter wheelbase, Camaro weights ca. 500lbs less). BRZ/GT86 it's not even compact class. To me their biggest flaw is that they cannot accomodate 4 people and their weekend luggage, while Challenger does it comfortably and I use this feature a lot. I think it is a good idea to compare cars by its size, weight, passenger volume and cargo capacity, and to me Challenger is comparable to a Mercedes E350, BMW 530i, Cadillac CT5, Maserati Ghibli, Genesis G80, Infiniti Q50 and for sure you can say they are better cars, but also they can cost twice as much.

Great points. Did you get your GT? I'm trading in my 2016 Charger SXT not sure if it's a plus or not but it's fully loaded with just about every option. The only options mine doesn't have I think are adaptive cruise control and rain sensing wipers but getting a 2023 Challenger GT hoping to pick up Friday with the Hemi orange package.

Wanted the v8 but went for the V6 AWD model to handle 6 months of snow here in Canada and it's a blast, safe and handles well. Sure I'd love the v8 growl in the summer but with a bolt on, tune and upgraded exhaust it's still enjoyable kicking out nearly 450whp from the v6

This is the one of the worst car review on youtube. You are complaining about a list of things that this car is not even meant to do. A Mustang or Camaro are more sports cars but less usable as a daily or for road trips. This is a car for people who love retro styling but do not want to restore an antique. It is for nice cruising trips. Not driving like a maniac or eluding the police.

Most cars people consider 60-70s muscle cars were family cruisers back then, they were never meant to be sports cars. Hell almost all 60-70s v8s except the very top exclusive engines of each one were slow as hell. Hell this V6 challenger isn't much slower than an old carburated 426 hemi in acceleration.

The transmission is also the zf and the combo with the pentastar makes it super reliable. The 5.7 is more unreliable unless you go with a 6 speed for the non msd version. Gt is great if you want a reliable daily you can drive year round with ample trunk space and good looks.

This is probably the dumbest review for a car I’ve ever seen. You went into this review expecting it to have a race car feel or a v8 engine feel. You can’t do that, it doesn’t matter if a challenger is sporty therefore it has to be fast and crazy. You have to review the car for what it has, a v6 with AWD. This was obviously made for people who love challengers but live in a state or country where it snows and rains a lot. And the constant complaining about the steering when it can literally be changed in the settings is wild. And 305hp for a v6 is impressive saying most other v6 cars barely hit 200. I hate reviewers like you who review cars with a race car mindset.

The only worth I can see from this car is it’s transmission and awd drivetrain cause long term ownership of this then eventually you can swap this with a 392 Hemi V8, can only imagine the driving experience would be completely different and amazing, as for handling and ride quality air suspension, 6 piston brake kit, and better wheels and tires and other aftermarket performance parts will fix that

Ive driven a v6 challenger before. to me It just makes you feel really american driving it like a older truck does. Like when you think of a stereotypical American car the challenger is what comes to my mind. The retro design, the large size, the sloppy steering the big roomy interior, and the fact it wallows and is a land yacht is just all part of the charm. Is it a good car? no. But it feels good driving a big american made land yacht lol. When i got back into my mazda 6 i felt like i was driving a miata in comparison lol. It reminded me of my 96 ford thunderbird v8 land yacht but without the awful 4 speed auto. Except even my 96 thunderbird had better mor comfy interior and road a lot better.
