2022 Dodge Durango R/T Vs 2022 Ford Explorer ST: Which Performance SUV Is Best?

Maybe if you weren't so infatuated with the red stitching, (mentioning it 9 times was a bit much), we might've seen what the thumbnail hinted at, PERFORMANCE. Performance is the main focus here, and why most of us clicked on this video in the first place. The fact that this reviewer didn't road test these vehicles is a crime.

2013 Durango R/T purchased new. Currently at 100,150 miles. Just purchased her 2nd set of tires. Just replaced the original battery that was still working fine but did it as a precautionary move. Replaced the brake pads for the first time. The rotors are still original. No engine, suspension or transmission work needed. Original leather seats and carpet are still looking good. I may replaced it with a 2023 Durango RT next year before they kill the V8 hemi.

I just got me the ford ST man such an eye catcher an amazing driving machine me and my wife are always like who’s driving when before it use to be you drive. First mod get a blow valve sounds amazing!! An trips ppl out when they hear it 🔥 highly recommend

The Durango does come with a tow n go package that comes with bigger brembos from the Durango srt and they come in red or black calipers

I love the noise the Durango makes with mid throttle and heavy throttle shifts it never gets old and is the reason I'd pick the Durango and because it has a V8 but I do prefer the looks of the Ford St

practically in every category the ST WINS except for the v8 sound. Even if this has v8 power just not the sound, I'll take st over my pride getting hurt because I have a v8 turtle....

I own the 2022 st for 6 months now, and the 4runner 2022, in the city, the st is way more fun to drive hands down, I love it.

I like the ST but it looks like the packaging engineer could do a better job integrating the entertainment/nav system into the dash. The ST looks more like the family trurckster than the Durango. The Durango has more of a bold sporty look to it which I like. The Durango can tow a nice sized RV well beyond the capability of the Ford. It would be a tough decision for me to pick one over the other. As a side note, 60K for these two is a stretch for what you receive.

The Explorer is a nice SUV except that vertical screen and also the rear tail lights don’t do it for me. The Durango looks good on the inside and out (the 2022 one, anyways).

People are saying that the Ford Explorer ST looks good. They also look good on the back of a tow truck, because Ford vehicles break down fast than anything I've ever seen. Consumer reports gave the 2022 explorer a 1 out of 5 on reliability ranking, which if you haven't guess, is the lowest a vehicle can get.

v6 or v8 you choose, i test drove ST and hated it. sure its got more HP, theres just something about the durango.... placed a order for R/T Hemi orange with tow n go and hemi orange plus. if i could i would of go for SRT392.. however my option were Fully optioned R/T Hemi Orange or base SRT392...

I prefer the Explorer ST,Modern design. The taillights on the Durrango should be reserved for their Charger.They instead used the same design on a few vehicles.

I drove a '21 R/T for 14k miles before someone pulled out in front of me. I test drove a ST as a replacement but didn't like it. I seemed to be sitting higher, like a truck. Also it seemed to be a stiffer ride over rough roads, even in the comfort setting.

I come from a Dodge Charger Hellcat. But the Durango is ugly to me so ended up with an ST. The suspension was rough until I noticed the dealer didn't adjust pressure properly, they are at 40. Also, there are no such things as comfort mode on the ST, which makes me doubt you actually tested one. ST wins every category to me except sound.

As someone who has driven both vehicles the NVH in the Explorer is horrible. The Durango sounds better and rides better even if it is old as dirt. Road and engine noise are much more noticeable in the Explorer. I do like that the Explorer is fast and can be made a lot faster with a tuner. With all of that being said i would still take the Durango any day of the week.

R/T with Town N Go is better in every single way but fuel economy to the Explorer. Terrible infotainment, cheap plastics, jumpy 10 speed trans and body roll. I hope Ford refreshes it soon because the exterior design is probably the best in the mid-size three row SUV segment.

@Frank Tank to be fair ive seen durano cop cars as well and one charger hellcat cop car in NC. With that said...... durango all day everyday as I got my 2023 Durango R/T hemi orange tow n go full loaded black on black and am enjoying every minute of it. I even sold my 2021 durango rt and got this just because you can't beat that rumble. Unfortunately I don't have a hell cat but I ha e all the other goodies of it and this spring will be getting a Whipple gen 5 3.0 installed and pro tuned. Should make for some great power and fun.

The Hemi is a POS, Ford's 5.0 would do well in the Explorer, I wouldn't expect Stellianis' "Hemi" to last 100k and it's slower than the 5.0 by a considerable margin. The Durango manages 12 mpg, best case scenario, people are dropping them like grass seed. After you have a Duragon for a few years everything rattles, the "leather" starts peeling off, paint flakes, bearings are shot, thin gauge wire they use is already degrading.

Literally nothing in that response is happening to my 2018 R/T (80k miles). I really like the ST and it might be my next ride. My R/T averages 19 mpg with an all time high of 24 (not great but not terrible either). The sound of the Hemi is pretty hard to beat. If this review compared the ST to the Tow N Go R/T it would more evenly matched with the SRT Brembo's and Adaptive shocks.
