Was part of a group that tested the prototype at Edel HQ and to hit five shots each with the weights in the different ports was eye opening. All of the things y’all talked about like droop, etc were affected, not JUST strike point. Add-in shaft change, lie, etc that you mention and the experience was eye-opening. Edel has always been ahead of the curve as far as REAL technological change and so many “poo-poo” what they do because they’re not a big OEM, but watch how this moveable weighting is adapted by the big boys…

Dont know if anyone will read this but I would love to see Ian review 4 models of iron that I have found to be absolutely fantastic and believe that many golfers would enjoy immensely. I have listed them in order of the "wow" factor I have experienced from each including what I have played personally and cannot seem to kick out of my bag no matter what I try. I will start with them at number 1. Fourteen TC-777 4-PW Endo forged cavity backs that for a forged iron with no frills and both a fairly thin top line and fairly little offset are incredibly easy to hit and incredibly long with a 42, yes a 42 degree PW! The 4 iron plays like a 2 iron distance wise and a 7 iron as far as difficulty to hit. I weakened the lofts in mine by a couple degrees each but left the 4 iron stock because it is just nice to have as an alternative off the tee. For the 5-15 handicapper like Ian mentioned these Edel clubs suited the Fourteen are amazing especially if the golfer is a good ball striker but not a long hitter as they are essentially two clubs longer than standard but be ready to be amazed at how high they go despite the strong lofts. 2. ONOFF KURO 2015 - these irons are as nice feeling as they are beautiful to look at, not sure of the lofts but they are probably quite strong and as soft as anything I have ever tried. I know there is a ton of tech that goes into these irons but the one thing that stands out with them is that the ONOFF logo which is basically a square shape and is displayed on the back of each forged iron head except the square is made of tungsten i believe and you will notice that the square on the back of each head in the cavity is in a different spot on each iron for example the 4 iron head you can only see a corner of the square but the whole square is there its just the rest of the tungsten square is buried along the sole in the 4 making the C of G super low and makes it easy to get in the air and the square logo of tungsten continues to move up on the back of the cavity so in the pw the square is totally at the top of the cavity near the top line which most likely is to prevent the pw from going straight up instead it has a more boring trajectory. These ONOFF's are incredible and the Kuro line in 2011 and 2013 are also amazing but the 2015 stands out to me because of the looks and the logo strategic tungsten placement. 3. Callaway Legacy Black otherwise known as "the Stensons" because they were famously played by Henrik Stenson for many years. These irons do everything extremely well as far as looks, playability, feel, etc. I feel that they are not the best iron in any category but they are close to the best in every category, very nice to play and would love to hear Ians opinion on these as well as the first two sets mentioned. 4. Lastly, the Edel Variable length irons that I do not believe are made by the company anymore but I sure as hell do not know why because in my experience the clubs that Dechambeau himself used to win the NCAA championship are freaks of nature as far as how they look, how they feel, how they play. These clubs are forged but have a totally different feel than other forged irons like the first three models on this list. They have a feel all their own and that feel is wonderful plus they are so unique looking and have a razor sharp sole that imo makes them the finest irons to play from thick rough or sand or whatever as they just seem to slice the ball out of a tough lie like a razor. Turf interaction with these irons are fantastic! Well that is the list oh man it would be exciting to see Ian smash a few shots with each of these sets of irons and to hear his feedback and opinion on them. I think if he has not tried some or all of these irons that he will be amused if not shocked by what he experiences. Thanks TXG!

Having the ability to change swing weights in the head does work. I recently had a PXG fitting and changing the head weight made a detectable difference. It takes a great fitting to a tailor made great fitting.
@jminisci2 жыл бұрын
Head weight makes a big difference for sure but these weights change the face angle. PXG weights just adjust swing weight and cannot be changed by the player and pxg doesn't sell them. These weights actually change the club like a driver. Can't wait to get my set based on my fitting.
@frankperez5262 жыл бұрын
@@jminisci The weights don’t change the face angle. It just makes it draw or fade bias. PXG can do that too. The center weight is used to change the overall weight of the head. The smaller weights on the toe and heel can be changed to make the club draw or fade bias. It also makes the club head more forgiving.

@@kvgolfa meant to say face to path.
@jminisci2 жыл бұрын
@@frankperez526 it may look like that but pxg weights don’t work like that. Plus they don’t sell them or want people moving them. Hence why Ian said there aren’t other irons that do what these do. More concentrated mass being moved vs pxg pushing weight around perimeter achieve different things.

This is an awesome video and touches something that many can really have use of. Would a follow up with your standard blade and a somewhat ghetto led tape be possible? The delta here is 6 grams, so use 6 grams of led and move it to the three positions on the blade. Then you can bend the clubs lie to your preference. Especially if you are looking for a higher apex. Obviously the turf comes into play here. Long and moisty fairways aren't really adviceable conditions with a toe down. Maybe the Srixon with their sole could be a perfect candidate.

Just saw this demo on the day that Club Champion announced they have the Edel SMS Pro irons for fitting. Hope you can do a demo on them. Interesting while the SMS Pro is a forged blade, not hollow, the lofts are the same with 32 degree 7 iron.

They look great! But, moving the weight to the toe/heel is assuming that the golfer is actually skilled enough to repeat strikes in those locations. If someone can't hit the middle-ish repeatedly, will they be able to hit the toe or heel consistently? If not, wouldn't they see an even worse drop-off than usual w/the CG being further away from their strike? Still though, they are beauts!
@smkgolf2 жыл бұрын
Movement of that many grams is not going to shift CG as significantly as you seem to believe. The weight is not supposed to be moved based upon strike location, it's moved based upon steering force and how you deliver the club. We won't shift you to a toe weight just because you strike it out on the toe, that is more likely fit through length.
@tbGTR2 жыл бұрын

With heavy weight in toe and perhaps 1-2 degrees flat would that bump swing weight upwards?

So what is the impact of lie angle and the weights in the back? You could go 2 degrees up and have the weight and the toe and hit high fades.

Have to agree. I have watched only a handful of videos since Matt left. What I’m seeing now are videos that are not nearly as lively, nor even as interesting despite Ian clearly knowing his stuff. Since Mac has chimed in here, I’ll add that what Matt added (and what the show is clearly missing now) is a very genuine inquisitiveness-he asked Ian down to Earth and practical questions about what he and Ian were seeing and how that would impact the average golfer. Ian would respond with very technical information, but because Matt asked his questions in such lay terms, Ian was digestible and seemed even somewhat relatable. Now though, it’s just Ian talking and talking, and he outweighs everyone else on the show. There’s no balance any more, and little real back and forth.

Thoughtful and meaningful feedback I get - but just writing a comment to bitch or whine about something - wth? If life's so crappy that you need to whine about a 15 second musical intro to a golf video then maybe you need some counselling or something.
