as a trimmer i can safely say you chose the quickest route to a clean sensible build without the backpacker look. a trimmer knows that cheap pine wood over everything is heavy and useless thermally and uses space. a quick glue and trim looks ten times better and gives you more room and usually a lot cheaper.

Thanks so much for posting this, I’ve been vacillating on a few different roof rack options and I’m about to finalize my electrical build-out. Despite what some other fucking miserable old trolls may say, seeing others hard work, material choices, problem solving techniques and fist hand review of products is extremely helpful and inspiring. I for one, have reviewed every video and post you’ve made and they have really helped the design and build out of my own van at about 1/8 the speed of yours. Keep them coming!

Thanks for sharing! I’m interested in the AWD Transit & been thinking of getting a cargo trailer but I would have to get a vehicle to tow it. A van makes more sence to me but I’ll keep it simple to still use it to haul stuff. I want to haul a quad in it & another one on the trailer I already have. I’ll put a removable single bed across the back & one along the side, then be able to put them together. In front will be a porta potty & a DIY shower. I want a fan vent in it & add solar. Awning woukd be good. I want to move up from tent camping.

Good looking van. I feel like the medium height roof is the best looking transit. Did you lift the van before adding new tires?
@BrokenandCoastal Жыл бұрын
I decided to not do the lift. I've taken the van everywhere and never needed it. The lift seems to only add problems and of course kill the gas mileage.

Thanks for the video, really helpful to see the installed AVC Rig kits you used. I can now visualize our layout using the floor and wall/ceiling kits. Question, you mentioned future proofing for AC install. Are you planning a roof mounted 12v like a nomadic 2000 or a portable style? I am on the fence about using a goal zero 3000x because there is not a lot of info about how that would workout with a 12v AC unit. Thanks again!!
@BrokenandCoastal2 жыл бұрын
I believe there is an AC from nomadic that doesn't draw a ton of energy. To be honest the footprint of the 3000x is so small. It's the equivalent of 280amp hours. I imagine if you lived in Arizona or Southern California where you electricity needs will be super high you might need more. With that said your solar panels would be cranking down there as well. Reach out to the folks at AVC! I am sure they can help!

Nice build! It's hard to tell from the the vid but how much room is above your head inside the van when you are standing? I'm 5' 9" without shoes on and would also prefer the medium roof if possible. Is your floor higher because of insulation? I guess I'd also have to consider my sideways sleeping room but I'm stoked on the the new Ford Transit trail model!
@TobyCostaRica Жыл бұрын
I’m 6’ and can do a medium roof short term but standing straight up is a huge benefit and goes a long way to enjoying your van. Especially if you’re stuck inside during bad weather.

Love seeing your progress! Great color choices! Sorry if I missed this somewhere... but would you mind sharing the wheelbase of your van? Is it a 148 or a 130? Thanks and looking forward to seeing how the bench turns out!
@BrokenandCoastal2 жыл бұрын
148 wheelbase. The 130 would be super cool if you don't plan to have bikes in the van. My buddy has one and it looks like a large mini van.

Awesome build! Did you have to get a lift kit or spacer lift to run those tires? Any running on the front tires at full turn?
@BrokenandCoastal8 ай бұрын
No lift. Left tire does rub on full turn. I'll get around to trimming the plastic one of these days.
@brendonborrego4911 Жыл бұрын
I heard you mention you are 5’7” which makes it a bit less important, however would you get the medium roof again over a high roof? I am looking at ordering a transit trail and can’t decide between a high roof or a medium roof with a pop top. Any thoughts are appreciated! I am 5’11” for reference
@BrokenandCoastal Жыл бұрын
The biggest advantage of these vans in my opinion is to be able to stand up. So if I were taller I would have gone with the highroof.

Thanks for sharing. I also have the 2022 AWD med roof, but in the Crew version. I'm planning a lot of the same mods as you, including the Goal Zero battery, which I already have. Quick question... where on the van did you connect the ground wire from the Yeti Link fuse block?
@BrokenandCoastal Жыл бұрын
The ground wire goes on the negative terminal on the van battery. In my model, it's found under the driver's seat.
@dogzbestfrnd1 Жыл бұрын
@@BrokenandCoastal Thanks! I've been reading some confusing threads on the forums, regarding using the battery's neg post vs vehicle's body ground point. Seems to be some concern about affecting the vehicle's battery management system, when connecting directly to the battery.

How did you bolt down the tray slides? To the AVC Rig floor or through-bolt to the van floor?
@BrokenandCoastal Жыл бұрын
I atttached it to the L Track. The fit was funny so there only be held down by 3 bolts each but it works for my use case. My floor ended up coming out a little uneven because we laid down some additional insulation underneath the AVC floor.
@van_mod1 Жыл бұрын
@@BrokenandCoastal Got it. How is the L-track bolted down? The same way Matt does it in his vid (through bolted to the van floor)? Which insulation under the subfloor? BTW, I ordered a Transit Trail yesterday...medium roof in Abyss Gray.
@evanbozarth2430 Жыл бұрын
What hardware did you use for your trays I have the same design and had to add a ton of washers because the L-track bolts are too long. The nuts on them still rub a bit. I’m still messing with the Rocky Mounts thru axle nut sure what I’m going to do.

To the misfortune of humanity, planned obsolescence, that is, the waste of valuable resources and many of them unrecoverable and many impossible to recycle, is an unbreakable rule for the benefit of the great corporate capital that owns the world's resources to the detriment of mother earth and the entire humanity that between moans decays hopelessly in sight, American cars are programmed to fall apart as quickly as possible with the least possible effort so that they are as expensive as possible

You kept using the word "super" There was nothing super about your van. it was just a mess of standard off the shelf components with very little innovation, planning and poor execution. It looks really untidy. I suggest you finish it off before making another video. Even then, you should stop using words like "super", "stoked" and "awsome" as i suspect it will a bit plain, compared to other van coonversion videos. Sorry, just my 2 cents worth.

Super stoked about the feedback! I hope you have a super stoked day!
@tomc18332 жыл бұрын
@@BrokenandCoastal I have been so far! The problem is with Americans overusing these terms is that when something is innovative and well executed, you have run out of superlatives and have no other words to use. Perhaps you should leave adjectives and superlatives for the viewers to point out. Then your feedback will be more genuine, not based on words you are putting into your viewer's thoughts. Don't let me stop your creativity. Just don't inflate your degree of success in your own dialogue. I feel your use of teenage language is very patronising and beneath you. Talk like the adult you are. I await the completion of this pproject with interest. With better dialogue it might be interesting. Not super interesting just interesting. Your buddy Paul seems to have put more effort into your build than you have. Maybe I'm being unkind and it's just that you lack the skills. I know I don't have them but i don't brag about it on social media.

Wow! Really! Why should it matter to you how many times he says super, awesome, cool, rad, etc. This is an adventure van. I have this same van on order and will do the same type of build out. I won't be living in mine so the utilitarian build out is the way to go. No excessive b.s. such as backsplash tile and indoor showers. As far as it being messy and disorganized that's real life and not some stupid fake beauty shot. The quality of the build is much more important than the decoration. Tom I look forward to photos of your awesome, super, rad van as soon as you're finished.
