My 2024 2500 does 14.8 mpg, which is better than my Ram 1500 at 13.5 mpg. Both engines are base models. The Ram pings and has low power. The Ford is very quick and very smooth. I have the same payload of tools on both except with the addition of a camper build, which so far is just two Ikea beds and cabinets. Hope this helps and everyone gets their van of choice.

@CarsWithSteve it's a medium roof 2500 regular wheels base. I figure about 500 lbs in it. I doubt I will put 1000 lbs in it. I will carry water and gray tanks which should push it towards 2000 pounds but if I go empty most of my trip (5 or 10 gallons) The mpg shouldn't change. Regards,

Another information-packed review, Steve. I actually found this review quite interesting, although I don't know that I'd ever be in the market to buy a Transit van. I understand back in the 1960's and 1970's, Ford Transit vans were the vehicle of choice for struggling garage bands to make it to performance gigs (at least in the UK, according to Top Gear.)

Interesting lesson in understanding how to market a product in non-English speaking locations. As I recall, it was comparable to Kia using a product name that sounds like the emperor who fiddled while Rome burned.

The problem with listing all recalls for brands is that recalls are generally for builds during specific dates, so if there's a recall on a 2022 Transit it might only be for low or high roof, RWD, Passenger vans and not for cargo vans as well. NHTSA is the way to go to see active recalls though

Good luck trying to buy one right now. Two dealers have told me anywhere between 6 months to one year with an incredible $6875 markup on top of A $60,000 price price tag at 7% interest.

Transit vans have always been tough to find an unsold in stock unit. Depending on the build 6 -12 months sounds about right.. but I never recommend paying above MSRP. If a dealer ever says that, run and connect with a high volume dealer that will sell at MSRP

I am located up in Alaska and that's part of the reason for the extra markup. Based on a few more reviews I think I'm going to steer clear of the transit. Build quality seems to be really awful, and there was one that was less than 5 years old that was already rusting. The guy also showed where the water from the windshield was dripping directly onto a wiring harness and computer. Nice. AC lines are Routed close to the tires, just bad design stuff. For 60 grand, seems like quality is really subpar. And then Ford is notorious for trying to get out of warranty work. I remember so many people having issues with the spark plugs popping out of their engine and Ford would not pay. Like it's our fault they only put three threads into the head to hold a spark plug. Overall, quality has gone way way down with Ford. I would love to see Toyota make a high roof van.

To be fair.. seeing one 5 year old Transit with some rust is a bit anecdotal. There's no way to tell if the person ever washed their vehicle, what conditions they were driving in, if there were scrapes, dings etc that would lead to rust happening quicker... Ford sells hundreds of thousands of these every year and if you compare that with the number of NHTSA complaints, most people probably wouldn't agree with these claims. Having said that.. it would be interesting to see Toyota try to tackle a cargo van as the only other options are the more expensive to maintain Mercedes Sprinter and as tough to find Ram ProMaster

For wait times and cost, I'm lucky enough to have 5 Ford dealers within a 30 minute drive and all were willing to deal at least a little bit. I ordered in mid-May, got a notice in late June that the factory scheduled a build date for late July, and I expect to take delivery mid-September. This is a 130" WB, 250, Low Roof, with Sync 4 and several other specific options. Obviously you're in a different situation in Alaska and I feel for you. I also cross-shopped a ProMaster until I realized that it has the same powertrain as my Town and Country which is starting to wear out after 10 years and 80K miles of hauling around 700 pounds of gear daily. I realize the T&C wasn't intended for that use (though I'm well within the 1400 pound payload capacity), but if the PM has the same motor and driveline I don't have faith it would be up to the challenge anymore than the T&C was. Just sharing my experience.

One needs only do a KZbin search on Ford Transit issues. The title of the one that I looked at was "2015-2022 Ford Transit review, 5 major problems" There are a number of other videos. Fit and finish is a very big issue and very small oil passages in their engine is another big one that can lead to catastrophic engine failure. Once again, if Toyota ever comes to the market with a high roof van I think they are going to knock it out of the park. And I have heard some absolute horror stories about the late model Mercedes Benz. It seemed like the early 2000 to 2006 T1N engines were Incredible and the one to own. After 2007 and DEF fluid and Other emission controls caused all kinds of problems, EGR related issues, etc. Anyway, my local Ford dealer here never even called me back. And the next closest one at 350 miles away in Anchorage was telling me about a year for delivery on top of their nearly $7000 markup, and zero negotiation on price. Who pays more than MSRP? Thanks, but no thanks Ford. I have a 2006 Chevy cargo van 3500, and I am not trading it in at any time soon. I've done a few things to it but nothing major or out of the ordinary for the mileage.

If it gets pushed by an extended time it’ll typically roll into a build for the next model year. Happens with vehicles that are popular and assembly plant can’t keep up

What you forgot to mention is that if ordered vehicle is not received in time and it rolls to next production year, the buyer will pay the new higher price(as MSRP goes up every year), even though buyer signed and put a deposit for previous year and obviously expected to pay a lower MSRP.

From the date we placed our order (7/30/22), to the date we took delivery (8/4/23), of our 2023 - 250 cargo van. V-6 turbo " Eco-Boost", 148" standard body, med roof, lg. monitor screen, cargo & rear door windows, cloth swivel seats w/folding armrest, (note: drive/passanger door MUST be opened to fully swivel each seat), larger ctr console, standard pwr. mirrors, dual alternator, dual bat, lighted mirrors (both visors) lane assist, advanced/assisted cruise control, street sign recognition, back-up & parking assist, larger 31 gal fuel cell and trailer package. (ultimately: we wanted All The Whistles & Bells, but to get certain features, it forced us to canceled out other individual selected features)... It took us: 1 year & 5 days from order to delivery. Intend to build into a partial camper conversion for self & service dog. Overhead (driver/pass) shelf, rear cargo floor & wall covering, aux switches, we're All NOT Available. Ultimately: if being ordered as a cargo van, many Ford "passanger van features" would VOID (aka: Not Be Available) to add-on as additional option onto a cargo van platform. NOTE: One point I was not informed about when we placed our special order ... requiring the use of the HVAC, the motor Will SHUT-OFF after 30 minutes. (I eventually found a way to circumvent this issue). The dealership (specialized in special orders for fleet accounts) was aware this van would be used to accommodate a service dog, they made no mention. (pretty sure "they" were not aware of this issue themselves). OVERALL: (almost a year later): Very Pleased with the: performance, ride and a 14 to 21 mpg fuel economy. A little bit of a challenge to maintain at freeway speeds when cross-winds are present. (still glad we didn't get the HIGH roof, or the 350 w/duallies). "🐾&👣"

I got a transit 350 'bus' when my last van died. Needed it for deliveries and.....the bus was NOT my choice but the only option >.< Found that the MPG was good enough that I actually got rid of my suv and just drove the bus even after changing jobs. LOL! Looks goofy as hell driving around in a bus as an everyday driver......but at 20+ mpg when my suv barely had 10.....Yea I'll take the goofy looks and the snickering behind my back :P

I am looking for a ford transit or any cargo van, except for the Mercedes Sprinter, that offers the possibility to have a 2nd row for passenger (3 passengers) and to get the bulkhead installed behind the 2nd row. Does it exist and if not, is it something that be custom built?

There are different seat configurations that are available, with either a three seat 1st row bench or two 1st and two 2nd row seats. The bulkhead will have to be installed aftermarket but it's definitely doable!

Best bet is to put in a factory order to get exactly what you want. Lead times depending on your build are anywhere from 3-12 months

The cargo van does technically have a seating matrix for 3 seats in the front so it is available from the factory. Aftermarket should be doable from most transport approved upfitters too!

You did a great job on this video . Unfortunately, I looked at and searched Ford and Ram Promaster. Lot of complaints on both sides. They are both junk Too bad Toyota doesn't have a big size cargo van.

You have to take number of units sold into account when you look at complaints. Ford sells hundreds of thousands of these worldwide every year.. even 1,000 complaints a year is less than 0.5% of vehicles sold. Could issues happen in either van? Sure.. But when owners actually keep up on regular maintenance and not overload their vehicles they are great vans

I called 3 ford dealerships: Morristown tn knocksville tn and atlanta ga. Trying to ask amd learn a few things. Relevant things like standard engine size for the 11000 lb rated version. And simply if i want the 14' box on a cutaway(which i do) does ford make the actual box? None couldn't tell me anything and none returned any calls or text with them assuring me they would find out.tisk... Ill still buy a fleet of 10 when i can but it might be from Illinois or Kalamazoo...who knows 😅 The 11'th one will be just a regular van the cooporate one i use😎🥸😁 with awd. Shop weasel

Unfortunate that you didn't hear back and that the people you connected with weren't much help. The box is typically done by an unfitter aftermarket. Usually with fleet orders they'll bring in the cutaway and deliver to the upfitter who will make any necessary installs before delivering it back to the dealership for you

anytime! The Transit is a tough one to learn so it doesn't surprise me you didn't hear back right away. Upfitters can do a lot to builds. Think ambulances, security trucks, armoured vehicles etc. Usually either the upfitter will buy a number of cutaways or chassis Transits or SuperDuty trucks and then build them and sell direct or the customer orders and it's sent to the upfitter before being delivered to the customer. The Upfitter wouldn't be contracted by Ford but usually referred by the dealership or one you find

You still can see the dash in daylight, and you can't read any digital lights in that miserable blue led lighting. E-transit has 100 mile range, very limited.

The eTransit range is pretty brutal right now.. but 112 miles in the high roof up to 126 in the low roof is ok to start. Hopefully Ford gets it closer to the 300 mile range in the next few years for drivers who are on the road more

Why does it sound unbelievable a build can add 2 years off one minor option? I mean its a huge factory building these. As i mentioned in my other post i will have a fleet of these. I dont want my drivers blairing a party GOING down the road. Is there options like radio volume lockout i can manage? Id like the ideal of limiting the volume a employee can attain let them hear the music to.pass the time but keeping them focused on there job is a big concern. Thanks....hint hint. Might as well go full atilla:a dual lockout so when the company calls it's a different volume so we don't get that:I can't hear you faker snideness these subordinate's try to go super genius on you with. 😅

I was surprised that it would be 2 years for a screen that Ford is moving to for more of their vehicles. Most Ford vehicles have the option for something called MyKey, which lets you set certain limitations for each fob. I believe that max audio is one of those settings

I drive a gas one of these for work and I have so many complaints on this thing. It's brand new and my 2018 diesel transit that I gave up was better. On this new one all 6 cup holders are tiny, the back my knee always touches the key while in the ignition and I'm only 6 feet tall. The arm rest is mounted so high when I steer my elbow gets blocked as I'm trying to steer, rhe back up camera is HD but somehow it's blurry and in reverse a picture of a transit appears in the upper right side of screen obscuring my view as I back up and turn the rear of the vehicle towards passenger side. There's no place to quickly place my ohone other than the passenger seat. All the surface areas near the cup holders are angled and phones slide off. There are chargers on the dash but what dummy charges anything on the dash. It will cook and destroy your battery. Just a terrible designed vehicle. Mine is a lower trim level then the one in the video.

Always appreciate hearing from a current driver! I've never understood why more manufacturers don't have larger bottle holders, they're so useful. There are some different accessories for phone holders that would probably make life easier for you there but you're right about the dash charge location, weird spot to charge anything. I'd just run a cable ;)

I own a 2015 DRW eco boost. 220k miles and engine an transmission still sounds and feels like a brand new car. Also a 05 F-150 never a single issue. Just regular maintenance. Ford built good vehicles.

Upfitting is the way to go for Transit vans.. but does a work van need to be eye catching? The screen in this video is the standard cheap option but there are upgrades that I mention a few times throughout that I highly recommend. At a minimum go for the 8" Sync3 but ideally the larger 12" Sync4

This one was a pretty basic build.. there's the option for the digital cluster and larger infotainment in the North American version but they're all extra costs. The EU transit custom van does look pretty sleek though
