We are getting our new RV this spring and I'm looking forward to a lot of hiking. I don't have to wait for the RV though, as we have a bunch of excellent hiking trails near us. I've been watching you all year and I'm inspired to get out with my furry companion (Luna) to show her all the hiking trails near and far. She's a Husky mix rescue from a northern community and loves the outdoors and snow - not unlike Jasper. I'm really looking forward to experiencing the trails with her. Looking forward to checking out your adventures in Alaska. I rented a truck camper for one week in AK a couple years on vacation. It was short but sweet. It inspired me to do what you're doing when I retire in a couple yrs. Just planning my escape in the meantime. I thought about going the truck camper route as well but the disadvantage of that set up is that if you get a mysterious knock in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere, you simply can't jump into the driver's seat and take off like you can with a van or class c rig. You'd have to first get out of the camper and then maybe have to confront the potentially sketchy situation. No different from the set up you have now however. I'm a guy so I'm not as big of a target as a solo female, nonetheless I would like to avoid any situation where I would be forced to harm someone or getting harmed myself while defending myself. Would be easier to climb into the driver's seat and bug out.

Do TWO 14er's in ONE day! I did Gray's and Torrey's Peak in July. It's stretching but so good! Bring water, protein bars, and your hiking poles. Get to the trailhead by 6am on a weekday to ensure a parking spot. Your 4runner (without the basecamp) can make it it up the (really) rough road to the trailhead. I started at 6:30am, went to Gray's Peak first, then took the saddle to Torrey's Peak. Had a Colorado beer on each summit. Made it back to my truck by 1:30pm. A great experience for sure. Thank you Cass, you're the best!

Congrats on the such a rich list of goals, Cass. Tho' it might make sense to assign some priorities among them, as well. One goal you didn't identify is to continue interviewing full-time + working RV'ers. Perhaps you'll have a chance on your travel to/around AK to mix in a few of those. You did a great job when kicking that off, and it seems to be meeting a widely felt need 'out there'. I'm glad to see the Masters effort continues as well.. Best wishes for a productive & fulfilling 2022.

ALASKA!!! My favorite state in America!! Was soo close to chucking it all and buying a VA foreclosure near Palmer but as life goes, it was not to be. Summer in Alaska is magical. 19-20 hours of daylight, seeing native wildlife at all hours. My biggest shock was seeing 60+ people fishing in Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage (full daylight) at 3 AM. Of course the usual sights to take in, Denali, Turnagain Arm, Chugach Park and the glacier north of Anchorage. Also, if near Anchorage, you have to experience the normal breakfast at Gwennies Old Alaska Restaurant. Gwennies was opened as a house of ill repute during the gold rush days, very cool place. Sourdough hotcakes (big as hubcaps!), Reindeer sausage and a big cup of coffee. So much to do and see during summer, everywhere you look just takes your breath away. First time I ever got off a plane, took a breath outdoors and felt I was finally home. Anyway, thanks for all the awesome videos, I look forward to seeing what you and the kids are up to. I wish you an amazing 2022 filled with good health, success and much happiness.

Ooooh the Alaska journey sounds exciting! Having everything planned out is great, it will certainly keep you BUSY - sounds like lots to do! I don't have any specific goals this year... 2021 did not go as planned, and I'm feeling kind of discouraged and rudderless at the beginning of 2022. I don't get to spend a lot of time outdoors, so I suppose my first goal is to reduce stress and find something external to focus on and put my energy into. I'll see what happens after that. :D

Wow, sounds like a lot !! Good luck with your masters, my daughter just completed her's while also working. My goals for 2022 is work camping in Yellowstone National park. I will be taking a few weeks to get there from N. Ca to Montana, and want to see as much as I can. One of my challenges is figuring out where to camp and finding those places. ! I want to hit the Overland Expo, go to Orcas Island to camp there and also do a week long trip into Death Valley next fall. I had a full sized truck and camper that I sold last November. I was just beating it up on the 4-wheel trips. I down sized to a mid sized truck, will be putting a light weigh shell with pop up tent,(Vagabond Drifter) and purchased a Winnebago Hike for my less technical wheeling. I needed the camper for Yellowstone as I cannot stay in a soft sided camper....Grizz's. And most other work camping gigs don't allow pop ups. I plan on work camping part of the year, and exploring the rest.

Yeah Alaska! 🏔 you’re going to fall in love with Yukon Territory and Alaska…I drove up there from Maryland a couple years ago & it’s incredible! I did some tent camping around Kluane Lake in YT, then up to Denali. If I could do that trip every year, I definitely would 👍🏼 Be careful though, the place is wild!

Alaska option would be catch the ferry from Bellingham(time saving) and drive down, if you go early in the Spring (late April)the ferry is much cheaper. Check out Bound for nowhere channel, great ferry information with a truck camper. Driving up and down is great but takes to much time and limits your Alaska experience and having time in Alaska is everything!

You mentioned in a previous video that you were thinking about buying a Tundra. I remember a well done towing comparison that I watched on KZbin within the past year or so. It was a father/son effort and one was driving a Tacoma (V6) and the other was driving a Tundra (if I remember correctly the 5.7 liter). It was a well done comparison. Conditions were close to the same for both vehicles. Same day, same road, etc. Both almost new. They got almost identical fuel mileage. Both the 4.0 liter 6 and the 5.7 liter V8 have stellar reputations regarding longevity and reliability. The only other pick-up I would personally consider is a Dodge Ram with the Cummins diesel. If you're considering used you might want to check out the Portland, OR Craigslist offerings. Or Marketplace. No rust in OR unless you stumble upon a vehicle that actually lived part of it's life elsewhere. And lots of vehicles to choose from - usually. The chip shortage has, as you have noticed, raised havoc with vehicle prices and availability.

Cass, great to hear your plans. I went full time in my Basecamp 20X, Gimme Shelter, this past August and have spent the remainder of 2021 going to every single UGA football game (14 so far). I will be in Indianapolis for the national championship on Jan. 10th and then will be preparing for a 30 day trip to Breckenridge where I will be staying at Tiger Run RV Park. I also have the Epic pass and hope to get in lots of skiing. Interesting to hear your plans for Alaska. That is also on my list for 2022 but I would like to make the Alaskan Highway trip with at least one other RVer. I have some friends who are also thinking about it and I have heard their are groups you can join just like the old wagon trains going out west. One of my goals that I failed to meet this past fall was starting a KZbin channel. I actually have a site and also a blog site but I have been so busy I haven’t dedicated enough time to content and also learning how to edit, etc. So, hopefully that will be an accomplishment for 2022. Good luck this year, I will be following your KZbin channel and may even see you on the slopes!

Hey Cass! First of all, Happy New Year and best of luck with your 2022 plan and travels with the pooch and kitty. I have travelled Alaska before and my best advice is to really do your research early because things can change up there quickly, Internet access may be very frustrating for your video uploading so make sure to get the latest info on that. Other than that, I highly recommend making contact with an Inuit village and spending some time with them. You will learn so much about subsisting on your own I guarantee a wonderful experience. If you make contact with them, ask what they like from the "lower 48" and bring them some nice treats. As for your truck camper, I have tried to find examples online and could not find one with a bathroom. I recall that a bathroom and shower were very important to you so I was wondering how you would tackle that, especially for a place like Alaska. Have fun, watch your six and stay safe, young lady! :-)

Lol..yeah, those little tables were never meant to be sat on. That's a great looking camper. Hard to tell what the actual condition is but in the vid, it looks great. You young'uns tend to hate the appearance of real wood and seem to want to paint everything white or gray but I love the warm look and feel of the woodwork as it is. Congrats. Do the Dalton but be prepared. Fuel at the start and the midway point at Coldfoot then at Prudhoe Bay (sign up early to do the Arctic Plunge). Lots of places to camp but recommend Coldfoot because of fuel. Take in the night educational talk hosted by the Rangers at the Station across the road. At Prudhoe Bay, def stop in at the Hardware store. One piece of advise we were given, when you see truckers approaching, move as far as you can to the side of the road and slow down. Most truckers will do the same and this avoids throwing rocks that can bust a windshield. I think our top speed was around 25mpg due to the condition (lots of sharp edge potholes) but it's beautiful scenery. Many of the Visitor Centers in the Yukon/Alaska have a small information pamphlet with tips for driving the Dalton. We didn't carry the extra fuel but our vehicle had the full size spare and we had plenty of survival gear. Also, check with your auto insurance company. The number of tow companies that service the Dalton was one when we did the trip in 2019. They require a CC on hand before they leave from Fairbanks. We notified our insurance company we were driving the Dalton and if we broke down, the tow could be several hundred miles. Took them about 20-mins but they came back and said they would cover expenses of a tow while we were on the Dalton. Looking forward to your new videos.

That's really exciting!! Good luck with the KZbin channel. Only advice I can say is don't stress too much over the first few videos. Just get them out there and the practice of filming, editing and posting. Someone gave me that advice, but I still took 3 months to try to get my first one out. If I go back, my first few videos are quite awkward 😂 but I learned a lot, and still learn with each video.

Your goals are quite ambitious. You’re going to be busy. Are you looking for a new or used truck? Truck prices are high but so is the value of your Four Runner.
