REGRETLYSS

Күн бұрын

As my cross country trip in my unconverted Skoolie comes to an end, I think about where I'm going. We like to live in this illusion, of knowing where we're going. To see our lives decades into the future. Five year plan, ten year plan, career plan, retirement plan. It's all planned. It's meant to bring security, stability. Which don't get me wrong, are wonderful things. But what do we lose by resisting the unknown and the unstable? And why do we view the unknown and unstable as bad in the first place?
I make an unexpected pit stop in Kansas to visit with some fellow nomads, then finally arrive to the Chrome Yellow shop in Denver where I will be building out my bus with my good friend Charlie Kern. I feel so lucky to be here, and welcome the journey ahead. Cheers to the unknown.

Can't wait to see this premiere... Really looking forward to this one. Lyss, the answer to your question is fear. Generally, humans are not very good with NOT knowing exactly what is going to happen in the near future... let alone the future 5 years from now. However, when you realize this, and address it for what it is... FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real... then you enter a paradigm shift and everything gets a lot more chill. ✌

As someone who did vanlyfe, carlyfe, packlyfe and even just flat out being homeless off and on since 2014 I can say that while I miss roaming and the freedom and exchange of a different kind of stress (and fun!), it does get old after a while. In the end, I want both. A home base and a home on wheels. Because things constantly go wrong on the road, and while you make friends all over the place and get help from random strangers most of the time, sometimes... you don't get the help you need. I also don't have a family to lean on so it made it more risky for me if I did have a major failure. Now I'm 37 and my body is really slowing down, so I have to build a self reliance base. I still crave that adventure, but not the risk. I wouldn't completely forgo the life plans, just ensure they are flexible. Stability is still important. Best wishes out there you are doing awesome!

… some of us are doing it still-at 60. Feels weird to have roots. The longest roots for me are 5 years, twice, 2 to 3 years somewhere here & there. The biggest issue is letting “stuff” go. Once its gone, seems ppl give you more “stuff” they dont want or need, when you stay somewhere a while. Then you have to get rid of all or most of it when you’re on the road again..And now stuff feels cumbersome. I love plants, books and funky things, but have learned to let MOST of it go…we have to choose to have it all and stay somewhere, or let it go… and move on. UNLESS, you are fortunate enough to own a spot of your own and have “stuff” there waiting for your return…But then, it ends up being more of a storage unit when youre away.

@@jules9628 Yeah it's easy to have stuff pile up when you have more space. I stay pretty mindful of that and even now that Ive been apartment living for a bit, I could be out in a day. Minimalism is definitely a practice lol. A shop to do repairs, some living quarters, and a small garden would be perfect. I wouldnt want to be there all the time. But it would be there when Ive had enough of the road, or the road enough of me haha. That can be a lot for some, but it would bring me a lot of peace personally.

I like your narration. It's well thought out and easy to understand. Lots of other KZbinrs will ramble on about stuff without considering what they're saying. I like the music montage at 3:58 as it's reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" which ties in nicely to your previous words.

Evolution has given us fear... I mean, check out wild animal "fear" on down the evolutionary chain to see where ours came from..... HOWEVER, with contemplation and self determination we can choose a different reaction to something new in our lives. We can choose to suppress fear and move forward.... HOWEVER (#2)... Fear is still important. The right kind of fear keeps us from getting struck by the wrong kind of Karma on the Road of Life. There is a balance.... also, you're doing great and like everyone else, I can't wait to see what your Adventure Path will be.... oh, and Welcome to The West.... the discovery's out here are fantastic!!!

And hoe, age 72, i live in my gipsy wagon tiny house and i need no shit from the outside world as judging me that i have no kids, family, big house, lots of money... I am So rich as they will never be... I have my freedom❤ living with my ponys, chickens and cat... I still struggle with oud patterns from my childhood, but then are ok and they fade away as time goes by. Follow your hart, listen to your depression... It has something to tell you...its ok to not be ok, als Lee told us... Take time for your soul. I love your video's, and think Rico is a hunk ...

I have never heard what your profession or trade was prior to Covid. I have just heard you have postponed for time being. I am seeing more and more of this lifestyle today. I have no issue as long as folks can support themselves. I’m,obviously attracted to it myself, because I watch many videos of such and off the grid living/homesteads. I lived the grind for my entire life, because I had responsibilities, a career, family and children to raise. Now I’m 60, debt free, healthy, fit and children have their own families. I tell them to live simply and that material things have little meaning in life. The more you own, the more you have to work, the more time and money it takes to maintain. Stress. I’d like to hit the road, but my wife has no desire. So I feel stuck at the moment. Thanks for the ride.

I live for spreading the Word of God, and glorifying Him. There is nothing to fear if you have salvation, and ig you read the bible you'll know by looking around that the world doesn't have much time until the rapture followed by the tribulation. Enjoy every day and get closer to God while you can, while telling others that true peace and eternal life in God's Kingdom is the only way to find eternal happiness. God bless!!

It's funny. I live in a small town in ks. I have a stable life. I own my home, a manager of a local store, my family and friends are here, I have a shop full of tools for all my hobbies, my 3 dream vehicles.....but for some reason for the past couple years this care free style of living has been calling me. I can't explain it. I've often thought of selling everything except the bare necessities and buy a bus and head out. I don't want to do it by myself and not sure how to fund it all on the road. Plus the security and everything I've worked for my whole entire life I'm not willing to give up. It's a constant struggle. I enjoy your build videos very much. Thank you

Most people want security and stability out of fear. The unknown is too much for them, so they stay in the predictable and complacent rut of safety. Routine, dull and and sometimes lifeless existence because that's what they can control. But even that "control" is an illusion. None of us ever have full control.
