Thanks for doing this test. I've always wondered how the FL manual stacks up against the FL DCT. I chose the manual for the fun (and nostalgia) factor, recognising it'd be slower than DCT for sure. I've never had the space to test the launch, so thank you 😊

Crazy how much quicker the DCT is. This is pretty much in line with your testing of the focus ST manual which makes sense. Slightly more aggressive gearing at medium speeds though.

The i30 N is such an awesome car. I hope in the future it gets a digital dash and maybe awd. They should also put an N badge on the steering wheel

I think there are also many people who still appreciate a nice analog dash. Yea digital dash can show more, but there's something to a physical needle =). AWD maybe, but I think they use FWD to keep the price and weight down.

That interior is complete garbage quality though with cheapo plastic everywhere. If the car was 30k or so in OZ then fair enough but at that price point it's rubbish.

I just purchased this in premium manual same colour and absolutely love it,it’s got enough power for what the car used for. It’s not a bloody drag car for people saying it’s slow. If you want a faster car go and spend extra and get yourself a vw golf r or audi rs like everyone other person out there ,what are they like $70,000+ premium pack ? If you want a drag car this isn’t for you.

It shouldn't be as slow as it is though. It has a poor powertrain if that is all it can manage with that power level.

I bought my I30N in 2018 for $38k which represented amazing value for money.. now they're close to $50k ? Umm... ? Did anyone else NOT receive a $10 pay rise in the past few years ? I certainly didn't. The gap between the rich and the poor is increasing it seems.

Crazy how a difference in transmission changes a cars performance, we all love manuals but the DCT especially Hyundai’s wet-clutch DCT is a game changer, the results between the two transmissions are night and day. A full second quicker from a launch and half a second quicker from a roll on and 1/4 mile time, absolutely ridiculous. 80s-early 2000s manual was king but modern day performance automatics easily trump them.

It would be interesting to see 0-95! Could you state that time? Cause that 3rd gear change at 97-98 km/h probably adds 0.2-0.3 s

The DCT ... Makes that car accelerate 0-100 in 5.15 seconds ... So for a manual that's not bad at all ...

@@DEVILTAZ35 for a front wheel drive 😂😂😂😂 You know how hard on stock tyres for a front will drive to get below 5 sec ... Haven't u noticed why they don't make more powerful from wheel drive cars ... I have a VW Scirocco r ... With 295kw of power on a roll I'm faster than a45 AMG ... But my best 0-100 is 5.1 secs I had to bring down the power for a better 0-100 time

Why isn't this car faster? Is it heavy or something? I would expect a car this size with that power level to be sub 5 second mark. The gear ratios must not be good for the manual for it to be this slow to 100.

It’s manual and FWD. We can’t think of many others that are much quicker. We’ve tested the DCT auto version in 5.1.

We struggled with traction a bit. With wider tyres like the Elantra N we think it would dip into high 13s 👍

Keep in mind the video is just a video - these are not timed runs. We do the Vbox tests separately, and do a lot more attempts. The video is just a demo, so we usually try to make it look as exciting as possible 👍

When I was a primary police pursuit driver, many years ago, I found the most important aspect of driving fast was to be smooth with everything, gears, brakes and steering. Smooth = Speed. I used to hate it when I miss-judged a gear and bounced off the limiter, it was wasted seconds. Oooooh the good old days when I was paid to drive like a maniac in the name of law and order!
