With the new XRT off-road trim, did Hyundai really make the Tucson any more capable?

"def not trying the steep hill climb in this thing" - like Clint said, "A man's got to know his limitations!"

I get too afraid to damage something, especially if a vehicle struggles with the small articulation hill.

@@EngineAdventures Saw the Honda CRV video... Maybe try the same test but with an EX with the gas 1.5 turbo instead of the Hybrid? Wonder if the added power and all would help.

I have read somewhere that Hyundai does not recommend switching off the traction control and stability system in case of more juicy conditions. This is how their HTRAC was designed

Yes, the system works better with traction control on, but does cut power. Cutting power when there isn't a ton of low end torque to begin with really hampers the capability.

I'm really excited about this I drive a Volvo XC90 but after watching this I don't think I'll be adding the the family of cars. My Volvo would climb all over that hill.

I haven't had a Volvo to test, but these tests are harder than they appear. I'd love to take an XC90 on this course.

Maybe some tires with more teeth? Great vid
@EngineAdventures

Thanks for the support! Having the right tires for the terrain is very important, however these tests are more about the vehicle's ability to transfer power to the wheels with traction than it is about the tires themselves. If all 4 wheels are spinning evenly and it can't make the climb, then the tires are the issue.

Most of the clutch pack probably got burnt up during the test.

I don't know if it was that bad, but yes this isn't good for the clutches.

Did you even have the diff lock on?
@EngineAdventures
@EngineAdventures 8 ай бұрын
Excellent question! It's a center diff lock that engages clutches, thus not truely locked. I tested both with and without it. Once the system detects slip, it will engage the clutches. It can make a noticeable difference, especially when traveling at speed, but for this really slow speed test the difference is marginal. Places where the letting the vehicle decide when it will be engaging and disengaging the clutches but what you really want is it to be fully locked. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@EngineAdventures it disengages after 25 mph and becomes part time again.

People have been traveling down gravel roads for decades for all kinds of reasons, sometimes there is no decent roads in their part of the world before it became stylish to call the vehicles adventure ready. This crossover is pitiful advertising as an adventure version. Probably a super nice vehicle on the road not much hope for it in winter without traction tires. Thanks EA for revealing the dogs of the PR classed adventure vehicles. The Cherokee Trailhawk is already turning in its grave. 👍

(Said Sarcastically) We as a population have evolved to no longer use dirt roads. Automotive commercials are simply shots of what the world was like before the Cherokee Trailhawk was discontinued.

Engine Adventures : the 2,5 litre Inline4 nonturbo GDI engine with 178 HP / 240Nm isn't made for this despite the H-Track being very very awesome (in my experiences).....but you would rather have to have the EU or Australian version with the 2,0 litre Inline4 TurboDiesel with 190 HP / 416 Nm with H-Track AWD drive....trust me I know because I have one and that engine is much much more capable in practice than this that you americans get. Why ? Because it sells better despite being a more stupid version.

In the US we don't have very many small diesel engines, which is a shame. Thanks for sharing!
