That Tucson has officially seen more action than 90% of Wranglers
@AvoidVanity
@AvoidVanity 5 жыл бұрын
Without those 90% of people Wrangler wouldn't be a thing. 10% or less buyers actually go off roading ntm most jeep owners are cheap people who arent buying the newest jeeps. Normal people are the only ones actually keep the wrangler line alive. So just shut up.

Wrangler JKs and Wrangler JLs, you are correct. Wrangler YJs and Wrangler TJs, those are used as true off road vehicles. Then again the YJ, and TJ, are built like true off road vehicles. The JK and JL require extensive modifications and gizmos inside will break anyway.

I'm no recovery service, but I have done plenty of recovery like this with friends and family... often in Mexico where you CAN'T call for help because there's no one to call. I was often amazed at how far an inexperienced driver, in a stock 2wd vehicle, could get out into the desert or up a mountain. Most times it was a younger, hippie type, couple (no slight towards hippies) who had no gear and not nearly enough provisions to last more than a few days. They just don't plan for the possibility that they could get stuck, and usually have very little off-road experience, and they aren't with another vehicle for support. I imagine most folks watching this channel enjoy at least SOME off-road driving. But it still warrants mentioning... regardless of your experience, always practice the buddy system, plan to spend the night by taking along extra water and blankets, and carry some basic "get unstuck" items like straps, some chunks of carpet, a small floor jack, and some standard tools and fluids for your vehicle. Also, tell someone where you are headed and when to expect you home. These are but a few of the smart things to do and have. Be safe and have fun.

Honestly, the body panels avoided any major scratches or dents, there's a good chance nothing will happen, particularly if he returns it to a large airport location. They don't tend to check the underbody of these cars, or quite frankly even look at the bottom foot or so of the car. The stuff I've found on cars I'm checking out (I am now slow and picky and take photos -- I rented maybe 30-40 cars a year for work pre-covid) that were not documented previously on the rental, particularly near the top and bottom of the car is amazing. Dragging belly pans, big dents on rocker panels, scratches on any body panel below about 2 feet, etc. Roofs are always in terrible shape if it is an CUV, people always strap stuff to the rack, but they don't have proper cross bars for the rental car. The question of whether to clean or not is a hard one. If the paint is still good, wash it but not right before returning (you want some mild road grime), if not you definitely want some dirt camo.

Look I've taken my buddies Kia Soul in some crazy places. We used to laugh about how that little lunchbox saw more action than most jeeps will. Best shit I ever did with it was run it through an old old woods trail during wet season. It branched off the main logging road and hooked up with the camp road which is a 25 mile drive on pavement from where we started. I have no idea how long the trail is. I'll map it out and edit this comment. The last time I'd been up there was probably bout 10 years prior with my father as a teenager. Looked like noones been there in a few years. It was super overgrown, washed out, trees down. Literally a stream that had diverted over the path. Had that thing on three wheels a few times that night. Bottomed it out once or twice. Started out probably bout 6pm, we didn't end up getting to camp until 2am. Never got it stuck, didn't break anything (besides maybe a few of the blood vessels in my buddies forehead). That road was about 10 times worse than I thought it would be. My buddy was absolutely livid but let me continue for some reason. Think he was just more scared of it in reverse than going forward. There was so much water on both sides of us for what felt like miles, huge ruts in places I had to straddle, trees that I'd crawled over, it was already pitch black and there werent any lights in back like bro were not turning around right here and reversing is just asking for a bad time. I'd never think of doing something like the road in this video in an suv though, that'd just be ridiculous.

Back in the 50's if you took a car out in the 'toolies' over those kind of roads and had to be pulled out, the first 5 or 10 minutes was reserved for getting your behind chewed out. In October I was road tripping with my 75 year old mother out in New Mexico in a rented Nissan Maxima. One day we were wandering out down a dirt road and I’m thinking, “I am not going any further in a passenger car and an old lady riding shotgun.” Now seeing this dude I realize I gave up waaaaaay too soon!

In the last video I saw of a muddy recovery on the north canyon rim, you said you don't usually comment on where the vehicles are and how they gut stuck, but you said that one had no business on that road. I think this would be the same case. Awesome recovery.

Far out but never back xD Reminds me of when my granddad thought it was one heck of a plan to take his Renault Modus out into the woods to bring home some firewood.... And since one of the locking hubs on the M1008 decided to not work, I drove back home and brought in my ZJ Thank God I always test my 4WD before I actually need it. Woulda been great so sink the Chevy too xD

This reminds me when I took my Toyota truck through a “shortcut” on a road with all these trees... it was fine but it kept narrowing.. didn’t realize it was a quad trail!!! Got to the point where we couldn’t reverse, because the trees were so close! Only option was forward! Ended up ripping both mirrors off and scratching the shit out of it. But we made it through! Got scary!! I imagine that’s what the Tucson guy was feeling as he kept going down.
@rbauer961
@rbauer961 4 жыл бұрын
I can understand how you can get in a situation where the road gradually gets worse going downhill to a point where you can't reverse. But at the first bad rock ledge you should give up and get help. First prize of course is not going down steep dirt tracks that you don't know.

I took my old Suzuki Sidekick down a snowmobile trail that ended up in a swamp that would have been no problem in the winter, but had melted into a quagmire of slimy muck in the spring. I stopped fast enough that only the front wheels sank up to the hubs, so we got out OK, but it could have been a very costly mistake instead of just a messy one.

You know...... With watching so many of Matt's videos in recent weeks, I'd have to say that your's is about the most likely explanation and one which would cover so many of the reasons and circumstances and situations people get themselves into. I've often wondered just how hire car companies make their money even in just city hire contracts. Out there, they must be going broke every month. That car would be totally trashed by the time he brought it back?

When Saint George Airport was in the old location on the bluff there was a sign in the terminal where the car rental desks were that read "NO DRIVING RENTAL VEHICLES OFFROAD". What did you mostly see when exploring the back country roads of Utah? Yup, you guessed it Pontiac Sunbird convertibles with Enterprise bumper stickers LOL!
