I'm no recovery service, but I have done plenty of recovery like this with friends and family... often in Mexico where you CAN'T call for help because there's no one to call. I was often amazed at how far an inexperienced driver, in a stock 2wd vehicle, could get out into the desert or up a mountain. Most times it was a younger, hippie type, couple (no slight towards hippies) who had no gear and not nearly enough provisions to last more than a few days. They just don't plan for the possibility that they could get stuck, and usually have very little off-road experience, and they aren't with another vehicle for support. I imagine most folks watching this channel enjoy at least SOME off-road driving. But it still warrants mentioning... regardless of your experience, always practice the buddy system, plan to spend the night by taking along extra water and blankets, and carry some basic "get unstuck" items like straps, some chunks of carpet, a small floor jack, and some standard tools and fluids for your vehicle. Also, tell someone where you are headed and when to expect you home. These are but a few of the smart things to do and have. Be safe and have fun.

Honestly, the body panels avoided any major scratches or dents, there's a good chance nothing will happen, particularly if he returns it to a large airport location. They don't tend to check the underbody of these cars, or quite frankly even look at the bottom foot or so of the car. The stuff I've found on cars I'm checking out (I am now slow and picky and take photos -- I rented maybe 30-40 cars a year for work pre-covid) that were not documented previously on the rental, particularly near the top and bottom of the car is amazing. Dragging belly pans, big dents on rocker panels, scratches on any body panel below about 2 feet, etc. Roofs are always in terrible shape if it is an CUV, people always strap stuff to the rack, but they don't have proper cross bars for the rental car. The question of whether to clean or not is a hard one. If the paint is still good, wash it but not right before returning (you want some mild road grime), if not you definitely want some dirt camo.

Look I've taken my buddies Kia Soul in some crazy places. We used to laugh about how that little lunchbox saw more action than most jeeps will. Best shit I ever did with it was run it through an old old woods trail during wet season. It branched off the main logging road and hooked up with the camp road which is a 25 mile drive on pavement from where we started. I have no idea how long the trail is. I'll map it out and edit this comment. The last time I'd been up there was probably bout 10 years prior with my father as a teenager. Looked like noones been there in a few years. It was super overgrown, washed out, trees down. Literally a stream that had diverted over the path. Had that thing on three wheels a few times that night. Bottomed it out once or twice. Started out probably bout 6pm, we didn't end up getting to camp until 2am. Never got it stuck, didn't break anything (besides maybe a few of the blood vessels in my buddies forehead). That road was about 10 times worse than I thought it would be. My buddy was absolutely livid but let me continue for some reason. Think he was just more scared of it in reverse than going forward. There was so much water on both sides of us for what felt like miles, huge ruts in places I had to straddle, trees that I'd crawled over, it was already pitch black and there werent any lights in back like bro were not turning around right here and reversing is just asking for a bad time. I'd never think of doing something like the road in this video in an suv though, that'd just be ridiculous.

Finally, someone said something that reminded me of the old days, "Rocks in his head."
